TRENDware TE-PCI/TE-100PCI Ethernet Adapter Installation for Windows 95 Contents ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ Introduction Requirements Minimum Skill Level Getting Started Introduction ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ Window 95 offers the easiest installs for any OS/NOS in the industry. Since it has drivers that are compatible with your PCI Adatper (TE-PCI Family and TE-100PCI Rev. A, Rev. B) using our drivers is not necessary for those adapters. If your PCI adapter is TE-100PCI Rev. C or later, please use our driver. Requirements ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ A PCI compatible computer Microsoft's Windows 95 A PCI Family Series Adapter A knowledge of basic Win 95 commands and editing text files Minimum Skill Level ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ A knowledge of basic Win 95 commands A knowledge of editing text files A knowledge of Win 95 basic file structure A knowledge of the network driver configuration being used Getting Started ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ The Windows 95 installation disks or CD are need to complete this install. Method 1: Using adapter driver ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ Start your Windows 95 PC normally without inserting the PCI Ethernet adapter into your computer. Open "My Computer" -> "Control Panel" -> "Networks" icons. If any of the following strings exist, "PCI Ethernet DECchip 21040 Based Adapter" "PCI Fast Ethernet DCEchip 21140 Based Adapter" "PCI Ethernet DECchip 21041 Based Adapter" You are currently using the Windows 95 built-in DECchip driver. Please REMOVE all of them before continue the following steps. Select "Add adapter" -> "Have disk" items. Type the following (assume the driver is located at C:\WIN95) C:\WIN95 Select the correct driver according to your adapter type. Windows 95 will copy the driver files from the TEPCI driver disk. At this monent, Windows 95 will also copy the necessary files from the Windows 95 CD-ROM. Prepare your Windows 95 CD-ROM or floppies for this process. After finishing file copy, Windows 95 will ask you to reboot the PC. Select YES Restart the computer. If you have not installed the adapter, turn off your computer and install the TRENDware PCI Ethernet adapter. During Windows 95 bootup, Windows 95 will automatically detect the TRENDware PCI Ethernet hardware adapter. You don't have to do anything at this point. After this automatic process, Windows 95 should proceed to complete boot up process and your TRENDware PCI network adapter should work normally. If the adapter does not work at this point, check the adapter under Device Manager: Open "My Computer" -> "Control Panel" -> "System" icons select "Device Manager" tab. Select "View devices by type", highlight the PCI network adapter, then select properties. If there are any problems, there will be a message under "Device status". Method 2: Using Windows 95 built-in DECchip Driver ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ The driver is in your Windows 95 CD-ROM. Please use TRENDware Driver if possible. Shut down the computer and plug in TRENDware PCI Ethernet adapter. Power up the computer, Windows 95 will auto detect the adapter. At this time Windows 95 will pop up a message: "PCI Fast Ethernet DECchip 21140 Based Adapter" or "PCI Ethernet DECchip 21040 Based Adapter" or "PCI Ethernet DECchip 21041 Based Adapter" If this Message window does not show up, PLEASE use Method 1 listed before. At this time, Windows 95 will copy files from the Windows 95 CD-ROM. Prepare your Windows 95 CD-ROM or floppies for this process. If you didn't install a network adapter before, Windows 95 will pop up "Network" window. Input your Computer name and Workgroup name. (Make sure there is no duplicated Computer name in the network). Restart your computer. Make sure that you check the PC BIOS for proper PCI slot configuration. Some PCI slots require that the interrupt number be assigned manully, otherwise it will not work properly. After this process, Windows 95 should proceed to complete the boot up process. Your TRENDware PCI network adapter should now be functioning properly. Trouble Shooting ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ Everything is OK in Device Manager, but network adapter still does't function properly. Please make sure that your Computer name is different from others in the same network. You can change your Computer name in "My Computer" -> "Control Panel" -> "Network" -> "Identification" icons Everything appears to be OK but network adapter still doesn't function properly. Please make sure that the adapter is properly connected to a network device (ex: HUB) and the "connection type" for this adapter is set to "AutoSense" or the correct media type. You can check it in "My Computer" -> "Control Panel" -> "Network" -> "Properties" icons Select "Advanced" item Driver keywords ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ Open "My Computer" -> "Control Pannel" -> "Network" -> Double click "TRENDware PCI .." or "PCI Ethernet DECchip .." -> Select "Advanced" item. Connection Type Specify the connection type for the adapter. Default: AutoSense Network Address You can set the Ethernet address for your adapter. It is not recommended to use this keyword. As you know two or more adapter in the same network with same Ethernet address will cause a little problem. When using this keyword you need to input exactly 6 bytes of Ethernet address using one of the following format: xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx OR xxxxxxxxxxxx Default: read address from adapter ROM.Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
