NETGEAR FA310TX Fast Ethernet PCI Adapter
              -----------------------------------------
                Packet Driver Installation Overview
                -----------------------------------

  Introduction
  ------------
Packet driver is a general driver used by many network operating systems,
especially TCP/IP based operating systems. You can use the packet driver
if the network operating system specifically mentions support for packet
  drivers.

When installing packet drivers, the most important thing is the software
interrupt vector. The default interrupt vector for packet drivers is the
hexadecimal number 0x62. Most network operating systems supporting
packet drivers will automatically search for packet drivers already loaded
in the computer's memory. However, some software requires a provided
interrupt vector for the packet driver. Furthermore, some network
operating ssystems can only work with certain interrupt vectors, which
require a software interrupt vector parameter when loading. Please see
the section at the end of this document for description on packet driver
  parameters.

Since the NETGEAR FA310TX Fast Ethernet PCI adapter is software
configurable, the packet driver will automatically detect the hardware
parameters. If the packet driver can properly read the adapter's MAC
address during loading, the hardware is normally working properly.

    File Description
    ------------ --------------------------------

    NGRPCI.COM [/option] <packet_int_no>

  Packet Driver Parameters:
  -------------------------
<packet_int_no> software interrupt vector number used by the packet
driver program, which can be from 96 to 128.

                    Note: <packet_int_no> can be a hex-decimal or a decimal
                    number.
                    hex - start with '0x'. eg. > NGRPCI.COM 0x62
dec - start with nonzero digit. eg. > NGRPCI.COM 98

/slot=## the assigned PCI slot number. The slot number should
                    range from 1 to f.

Note: '##' can be hex number only.
                    eg. > NGRPCI.COM /slot=1
                        > NGRPCI.COM /slot=2
                        > NGRPCI.COM /slot=f

/u Unload the driver program from memory. The program
automatically searches for packet driver to unload.

/autosense The adapter automatically detects the media speed and
the full or half-duplex mode of operation. This is the
                    default setting.

/tp Together with the "line_speed" command to determine the
operating mode of the adapter card. "/tp" forces the
the adapter card to operate in half-duplex mode.

/tp_full_duplex Configure the network connection to run in full-duplex
mode. Either "/tp" or "/tp_full_duplex" must be
used together with the "/line_speed" command when
                    changing network speed.

/line_speed=### Configure the line speed. The allowed parameters are
                    10 (for 10Mbps) or 100 (for 100Mbps).

Note: the 'line_speed' parameter must be used together with the media
selection command (/tp or /tp_full_duplex). Otherwise the
        driver may not function properly.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
