PERACOM USB ETHERNET ADAPTER DRIVER README FILE


WARNING!

If you are upgrading your operating system, you need to uninstall the
USB-Ethernet Adapter BEFORE you upgrade the operating system. See the
instructions in the User's Guide for information on uninstalling the
adapter.

After you have upgraded your operating system re-install the adapter. 
The User's Guide has instructions on installing the USB-Ethernet Adapter 
on the supported operating systems.

If you have already upgraded your operating system and the USB-Ethernet
Adapter is not working, run the uninstall as instructed in the User's
Guide. You may get an error when running the program. If you are prompted
to remove the program from the Add/Remove programs list the click 'Yes'.
Restart your computer if you are prompted to. Next, follow the manual 
uninstall for your new operating system. The directions for the manual 
uninstall are at the end of this file.


INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

For complete installation instructions, see The USB Ethernet Adapter User's
Guide provided in the Driver Software Diskette. The guide is compressed in
a self-extracting file entitled UG_ENA.EXE. Expand and print this file as
follows:


1. Click on the 'Start' menu
2. Click 'Run'
3. Click 'Browse'
4. Highlight 'UG_ENA.EXE'
5. Click 'Open'
6. Unless you specify otherwise the expanded file will be saved in the
   'My Documents' folder
7. Open the document and print it using Wordpad or Microsoft Word


IS USB CORRECTLY INSTALLED?

If you connect to the USB Ethernet Adapter and nothing happens, you may have
a problem with the USB setup. To determine if USB is correctly installed,
proceed as follows:

1. Right-click on 'My Computer'
2. Click 'Properties'
3. Select the 'Device Manager' tab (under Windows 2000 select the 'Hardware'
   tab and then click the 'Device Manager' button).
4. If 'Universal serial bus controller' is not listed:

        A. USB is not installed on your machine
        B. Contact your system manufacturer for instructions on installing
           USB  support

5. If 'Universal serial bus controller' is listed:

        A. Click the '+' sign next to the title to expand that section
        B. Highlight 'USB Root Hub'
        C. Click 'Properties'
        D. Verify that the USB Root Hub is working properly

If the Root Hub is working, you may have a problem with the USB Ethernet

THESE MANUAL UNINSTALL INSTRUCTIONS ARE FOR WINDOWS 98 USERS ONLY

1. Shut down and turn off the computer.
2. Unplug the USB-Ethernet Adapter.
3. Restart the computer.
4. Run the program PCMUNSTA.EXE from the installation directory. Restart
   the computer if you are prompted to do so.


THESE MANUAL UNINSTALL INSTRUCTIONS ARE FOR WINDOWS 2000 USERS ONLY

1. Shut down and turn off the computer.
2. Unplug the USB-Ethernet Adapter.
3. Restart the computer.
4. Run the program PCMUNSTB.EXE from the installation directory. Restart
   the computer if you are prompted to do so.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
