Previous Versions: Release 3.2 This release adds support for Windows 2000. Release 3.1 This release adds support for the LP-E CF+ Card. There are no functional changes. Release 3.00 There are now separate README files for Windows 9x/NT/DOS, etc. (this file) and one that covers Windows CE. Please refer to the README file on the disk labeled Low Power Ethernet Windows CE Setup Disk for pertinent information. The documentation has been updated to handle Windows 98 and Windows NT 5.0 install procedures. Release 2.00 Added support for Windows 95, Windows NT and other Network OSs. Also added support for the Low Power Ethernet + (LP-E+) 10BaseT/10Base2 Ethernet card. Release 1.01 This release of the Low Power Ethernet (LP-E) was the initial release. The Low Power Ethernet provides the capability for any Windows CE v2.0 Handheld PC (H/PC) to connect to a local area network (LAN). 2.0 FILE LOCATIONS Windows 9x/Me/2K file locations: No files are copied. A file (.INF) is created, and some registry information is added. 3.0 RELEASE NOTES 3.1 Setup Center Install Process: For Windows Internet Explorer Users - When prompted with the option during the install process in the "File Download" window to either: Run this program from its current location or Save this program to disk You MUST select "Run this program from its current location" for the installation process to run without errors. When the "Security Warning" window appears, click Yes to continue. If you use Netscape you have the following options: a) Close Netscape and use Windows Internet Explorer and browse to the root of the CD and manually launch SETUP.HTM and then follow the instructions above; or b) Exit the Setup Center and browse the CD to the WinCE directory and manually launch the SETUP.EXE file found in the directory (not the SETUP.EXE at the root). 3.2 Installation Note: When installing the CF LP-E, you may see the "Digital Signature Not Found" window. If this window appears, click YES and proceed with the installation. 4.0 UNINSTALL PROCEDURES 4.1 Windows 9x/Me Uninstall Procedures DISCLAIMER: In Windows 9x/Me/2K any time you modify or delete anything from your system registry, you risk losing important information. Be sure to back up your current registry files BEFORE attempting this uninstall. To back up those files: a) Open a MS-DOS prompt and go to the c:\windows> subdirectory. b) Type Attrib System.* -h -r -s and hit <enter> c) Rename system.dat to system.bak d) Type Attrib System.* +h +r +s and hit <enter> e) Cold boot your computer by completely shutting it off and then restarting. To uninstall a) Select START | SETTINGS | Control Panel b) Double click the NETWORK applet c) Select the adapter 'Socket Communication LP-E Card', and select REMOVE d) Click on OK e) Shut down the computer (cold reboot) 4.2 Windows 2000 Uninstall Under normal operation, it should never be necessary to uninstall the driver-related files for the Socket LP-E card. If you must remove them, perform the following steps: a) In the Control Panel, go to "Add/Remove Hardware" and click Next. b) Select "Uninstall/Unplug a device" and click Next. c) Select "Uninstall a Device" and click Next. d) Check the "Show hidden devices" checkbox if it is unchecked, then select "Socket EA Credit Card Ethernet Adapter" or "Socket Communications LP-E CF+ Card" in the listbox. e) On the next screen select Yes to confirm the device removal. f) Click Finish to exit the Wizard. 5.0 TROUBLESHOOTING For troubleshooting tips refer to the Low Power Ethernet User's Guide, Appendix C. 6.0 TECHNICAL SUPPORT INFORMATION You can contact SOCKET COMMUNICATIONS at: Socket Communications 37400 Central Court Newark, CA 94560 You can track new product releases, software updates and technical bulletins by visiting Socket's web page at www.socketcom.com. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
