X-Session Pro Tools info.txt Driver File Contents (m-audio_axiomAIR61_win_x86_x64.zip)

This setup will allow you to use your Evolution X-Session as a Control Surface with Pro Tools. This Zip file contains an XML File "X-Session Pro Tools" that needs to be loaded into your X-Session using Enigma (www.m-audio.com/enigma).

Use Preset 1 in this XML file with Pro Tools. The remaining presets were copied from the X-Session factory defaults.

To setup an X-Session as a control surface with Pro Tools:

1. Go to http://www.digidesign.com/index.cfm?navid=54&langid=100&itemid=4796 and download the Legacy MIDI Controller file (CS-10) that corresponds with your version of Pro Tools.

2. Install this file in:

(Mac) Macintosh HD > Applications > Digidesign > Pro Tools> Controllers

    (Windows) C:\Program Files\Common Files\Digidesign\DAE\Controllers

3. In Pro Tools, open Peripherals from the Set Up drop down menu

4. Choose the third tab “MIDI controllers” and select CS-10 under Type.

5. Select X-Session Port 1 for both “Receive from” and “Send to”.

6. Select “8” for “# Ch’s” and Click OK.

HOW IT WORKS

Knobs:

The button row of knobs (Knobs C1-C8) will control volume for the currently selected bank of tracks. Buttons 7 and 8 will bank left and right (down and up) to access different groups of tracks. Press button 8 to bank right/up and control channels 9-16 (press again for 17-24 and so on). Press button 7 to bank left/down from controlling 9-16 to go back and control 1-8.

Buttons:

The Play, Stop, and Record buttons (1, 2, & 3 on the numeric keypad) function as expected. Button 4 is used for ReWind, and button 5 for Fast Forward. When button 6 is pressed, Play toggles loop playback on/off and Record cycles through the 4 record modes (Normal, Destructive, Loop, and Quick Punch). Pressing button 6 again will return the Play and Record buttons to their normal transport functions.

As mentioned above, buttons 7 and 8 can be used to bank left/right (down/up) to control different banks of faders (1-8, 9-16, etc).

NOTE:

* The only way to interface the X-Session (or any MIDI Controller) with Pro Tools is by using an old JL-Cooper CS-10 Control Surface file, and it's implementation/operation are not perfect.

* You must move the knobs on the X-Session past the point of the fader on screen for it to "catch" and start controlling the volume fader in Pro Tools. It may not "catch" every time.

* The top row of knobs (C9-C16), the Crossfader, and buttons 9 and 0 do not function in this preset.
