Ozonic Pro Tools Info.txt Driver File Contents (m-audio_axiomAIR61_win_x86_x64.zip)

This XLM file has 2 Presets (A1 & A2) for the Ozonic to use w/ Pro Tools. The remaining 18 presets were copied from the Ozonic defaults. **Be sure to recall Preset A1 in order for the new settings to take effect.**

To setup an Ozonic as a control surface with Pro Tools:

1. Go to http://www.digidesign.com/index.cfm?navid=54&langid=100&itemid=4796 and download the Legacy MIDI Controller file (CS-10).

2. Install this file in:
Macintosh HD > Applications > Digidesign > Pro Tools> Controllers (Mac)
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Digidesign\DAE\Controllers (PC)

3. Open Pro Tools Peripherals from Set Up drop down menu

4. Choose third tab “MIDI controllers” and select CS-10 under type, then Ozonic Port 1 for both “Receive from” and “Send to” as well as “8” for “# Ch’s”

How it Works:

Preset A1: Pro Tools Transport & Volume

Transport Control:
The transport buttons function as expected. The last button "C40" acts as a modifier for the functionality of the Play and Record buttons. When "C40" is pressed, Play toggles loop playback on/off and Record cycles through the 4 record modes (Normal, Destructive, Loop, and Quick Punch). Pressing the "C40" button again will return the Play and Record buttons to their normal transport functions.

Faders:
The 1st 8 faders will control volume for the currently selected bank of tracks. The buttons below the first 2 faders (C32 & C33) will bank left and right (down and up) to access different groups of tracks. Press button C33 to bank right/up and control channels 9-16 (press again for 17-24 and so on). Press button C32 to bank left/down from controlling 9-16 to go back and control 1-8.

The 9th fader (F9) has been disabled. The remaining buttons (C34-C39) have been disabled on this preset.

Knobs:
Knobs B10-B14 are mapped to the global control knobs for the XPand! Instrument, and B15-B17 are available to assign via MIDI Learn with Xpand! or any other plugin.

Preset A2: Pro Tools volume/pan/sends

Transport Control:
Only Stop, Play & Record are mapped for transport control. See below for an explanation of ReWind & Fast Forward (<< & >>)

Sliders/Faders:
The 1st 8 sliders will control volume for the currently selected bank of tracks. The Rewind (<<) and Fast Forward (>>) buttons will bank left and right (down and up) to access different groups of tracks. Press Fast Foward (>>) to bank right/up and control channels 9-16 (press again for 17-24 and so on). Press Rewind (<<) to bank left/down from controlling 9-16 to go back and control 1-8.

The 9th fader (F9) has been disabled.

Knobs:
Knob B10 (top left knob) controls Track Pan for the Currently Selected Channel Strip (see ButtonMode 5 below in the Buttons section). The next 5 knobs (B11-B15) control FX send's 1-5 (aka Sends A, B, C, D and E) on the currently selected channel strip.

The other 2 knobs have been disabled.

Fader Buttons:
The last button "C40" cycles through the 6 "modes" for the 1st 8 buttons (C32-C39).

These modes are:

1. Mute - Toggles Mute On/Off for tracks in the current bank (i.e. 1-8 or 9-16). This is the default starting mode.

2. Memory Location - Jumps to the 1st 8 markers set in your song

3. Track Select - Selects/Deselects tracks in the current bank (for grouping/editing)

4. Record - Toggles Record On/Off for tracks in the current bank

5. Channel Strip Select - Selects the track/channel strip to be controlled by the knobs (Pan and FX Send)

6. Solo - Toggles Solo On/Off for tracks in the current bank

NOTES:

The only way to interface the Ozonic (or any MIDI Controller) with Pro Tools is by using an old JL-Cooper CS-10 Control Surface file, and there are a few things to be aware of.

* You must move the sliders on the Ozonic past the point of the fader on screen for it to "catch" and start controlling the volume fader in Pro Tools. It may not "catch" every time.

* Knob B10 will not control pan until a plug-in window has been opened. On new Sessions, insert a plug-in on a track, or for an existing session with plugins, click one of the plug-ins to open it's GUI.

* When turning a knob/encoder, the value on screen may "jump" to match the current position of the knob. If this is a problem, you can engage the "ctr mute" (control mute) function on your Ozonic and turn the knob to the approximate position of the control on screen, then disable "ctr mute" and continue turning the knob to minimize any "jumping".
