Axiom Reason Template Setup instructions.txt Driver File Contents (m-audio_axiomAIR61_win_x86_x64.zip)

This is for people who do NOT wish to use their Axiom as a "Remote Control Surface" in Reason, and instead prefer to use the Reason templates from the factory. Unlike the factory defaults, all of the Reason presets in the XML bank included with this download have uniform assignments for transport controls. This will allow the transport controls to work, no matter which Reason preset you are on. This setup will require that you "learn" these controls once, and save them to the "M-Audio Template" reason song. Then you will want to make this file "read only" so it doesn't get overwritten, then set it to be the default song in Reason, so that every time you launch Reason, transport and mixer volume controls will be mapped and ready to use.

First, you need to get the XML bank into Enigma and load it to your device. In Enigma, go to File>Load (PC), or File>Import Preset Bank (Mac) and locate/open the Axiom-Reason XML file.
Select the Axiom - Reason bank in enigma, and click the 3rd button, the one with 2 arrows pointing to the right (PC), or the Arrow pointing straight up (Mac). This will send the entire bank of Presets to your keyboard.
Then you must "recall" one of the presets before the new settings will take effect. The Reason presets are P07-P12.

You must also make sure you've properly setup the Axiom as a control surface keyboard in Reason. On the control surface and keyboards page in Reason's preferences, you should manually "add" the Axiom as a controller. The manufacturer doesn't matter, but selecting M-Audio is fine, the model IS what's important. You must select "Other MIDI Keyboard w controls" for the various controls to work (knobs, buttons, sliders).

Next, in Reason, load the M-Audio template song (included with this download) and use Reason's Remote Override mapping to "learn" the transport controls. Right click (PC) or Ctrl+Click (Mac) each of the transport buttons, check "learn from control surface input", and press the corresponding button. Click OK to confirm, and repeat for each button. When you are finished, go to File>Save to save these settings.

Now you need to make sure the file is marked "read only" so it doesn't get overwritten. PC: locate the file, right click and select properties, check the box "read only" and hit OK. Mac: Ctrl+Click on the file and select get info. Under "ownership and permissions", select "read only" and close the window.

You can make this the default song every time Reason loads by going to Edit>Preferences (PC) or Reason>Preferences (Mac), on the "General" page, you can select a custom "default song" and browse your HD to find it. This way, every time you launch Reason, you will have a mixer ready to control, and transport controls already learned and mapped for your controller. Simply make sure you have recalled 1 of the Reason presets for your device.

Be sure to choose File>Save As to save your song, this will allow you to give the song a unique name, without affecting your M-Audio Template. Setting the file to "read only" should prevent you from overwriting the song anyhow.

As mentioned before, each of the Reason presets has the transport controls programmed to send the same MIDI message, so they will work no matter which Reason preset you are using. Everything was copied over from the Axiom factory defaults, the only changes were to make the transport controls match for each Reason preset.
