Please note that you must upgrade the driver before upgrading the firmware. Once the driver and firmware have been upgraded the 3CRWE62092A card will support Active Scanning. When set to Active Scan mode the 3CRWE62092A card will be able to associate to Access Points that have Broadcast ESSID disabled. For detailed instructions on performing the upgrade and configuring the card for Active Scanning please view the Readme file included with the download. IMPORTANT: THIS IS NOT A FULL CD DOWNLOAD. IN ORDER TO PERFORM THE FIRMWARE UPGRADE ON THE CARD YOU WILL NEED TO HAVE THE 3CRWE62092A CARD ALREADY INSTALLED AND RUNNING IN YOUR COMPUTER, AND THE WLAN LAUNCHER UTILITIES INSTALLED ON YOUR COMPUTER. THE WLAN LAUNCHER IS INCLUDED ON THE INSTALLATION CD THAT CAME WITH YOUR CARD. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THE INSTALLATION CD PLEASE DOWNLAOD CD VERSION 2.03A AND INSTALL THE WLAN LAUNCHER. Perform the following steps to upgrade the driver for the 3CRWE62092A card: ============================================== NOTE: These instructions assume that the 3CRWE62092A card is currently installed and inserted in your computer system. Driver upgrade procedure for Microsoft Windows 95B, 98, and ME: ============================================== 1. Go to START \ SETTINGS \ CONTROL PANEL and double click the SYSTEM icon 2. Select the DEVICE MANAGER tab 3. Under NETWORK ADAPTERS double click the 3CRWE62092A card 4. Select the DRIVERS tab and click UPDATE DRIVER 5. The UPDATE DEVICE DRIVER WIZARD will appear. Click NEXT. 6. Select DISPLAY A LIST OF DRIVERS IN A SPECIFIC LOCATION and click NEXT 7. Click HAVE DISK 8. Click BROWSE and browse to the location of the updated Wireless PC Card driver (The default extracting location is C:\3com\3CRWE62092A\204beta) 9. Click OK, and then OK again. 10. Windows will find the driver. Click OK to continue. 11. Click NEXT 12. Once the driver upgrade is complete click FINISH and reboot your computer 13. Follow the instructions below to perform the firmware upgrade. Driver upgrade procedure for Microsoft Windows 2000: ============================================== 1. Go to START \ SETTINGS \ CONTROL PANEL and double click the SYSTEM icon 2. Select the HARDWARE tab and click DEVICE MANAGER 3. Under NETWORK ADAPTERS double click the 3CRWE62092A card 4. Select the DRIVER tab and click UPDATE DRIVER 5. The UPGRADE DEVICE DRIVER WIZARD will appear. Click NEXT. 6. Select DISPLAY A LIST OF KNOWN DRIVERS FOR THIS DEVICE and click NEXT 7. Click HAVE DISK 8. Click BROWSE and browse to the location of the updated Wireless PC Card driver (The default extracting location is C:\3com\3CRWE62092A\204beta) 9. Click Open 10. Click OK 11. Click NEXT 12. Once the driver upgrade is complete click FINISH and reboot your computer 13. Follow the instructions below to perform the firmware upgrade. Driver upgrade procedure for Microsoft Windows XP: ============================================== 1. Go to START \ CONTROL PANEL 2. Click the PERFORMANCE AND MAINTENANCE icon 3. Click the SYSTEM icon 4. Select the HARDWARE tab 5. Click DEVICE MANAGER 6. Under Network Adapters double click the 3CRWE62092A PC Card 7. Select the DRIVER tab 8. Click UPDATE DRIVER 9. The Update Hardware Wizard will appear 10. Select INSTALL FROM A SPECIFIC LOCATION (ADVANCED) and Click NEXT 11. Select DON'T SEARCH. I WILL CHOOSE THE DRIVER TO INSTALL 12. Click HAVE DISK 13. Click BROWSE 14. In the Locate File box browse to the location of the updated Wireless PC Card driver (The default extracting location is C:\3com\3CRWE62092A\204beta) 15. Click OPEN 16. Click OK 17. Highlight the 3CRWE62092A PC Card and click OPEN NOTE: If at any time during this procedure an Update Driver Warning appears click YES to continue with the install NOTE: If at any time during this procedure a message indicating that the 3CRWE62092A PC Card has not passed Windows Logo testing appears click CONTINUE ANYWAY 18. When the Hardware Wizard has finished installing the updated drive, click FINISH and reboot the computer if prompted. Perform the following steps to upgrade the firmware for the 3CRWE62092A Card: ============================================== NOTE: These instructions assume that the 3CRWE62092A card is currently installed and inserted in your computer system and that the driver has already been upgraded to the latest version available as described above. NOTE: To complete the firmware upgrade procedure you will need the 3Com Wireless LAN Launcher installed on your computer. The 3Com WLAN Launcher is available on the installation CD that came with your 3CRWE62092A card. If you do not have the WLAN Launcher installed and do not have the installation CD that came with your card please visit www.3Com.com to download the latest available installation CD. 1. If the 3Com WLAN Launcher is not already started, go to START \ PROGRAMS \ 3COM 11MBPS WIRELESS LAN \ 3COM WLAN LAUNCHER 2. Click the HAMMER icon on the launcher 3. The 3Com WLAN Configuration Utility will appear 4. Select the TOOLS tab 5. Click FIRMWARE UPGRADE 6. Click BROWSE and browse to the location of the firmware file for the 3CRWE62092A PC Card. (The default extracting location is C:\3com\3CRWE62092A\Firmware Upgrade) NOTE: The firmware file for the 2.04 download is named 3SRFW204.bin 7. Highlight the firmware file and click OPEN 8. Click UPGRADE 9. You will receive a warning message indicating that the laptop should be plugged into an AC Power source during the firmware upgrade. Click OK to continue with the upgrade. 10. Once the upgrade has completed click YES to reboot your laptop. Configuring the 3CRWE62092A for Active Scanning: ============================================== When the 3CRWE62092A card is configured for Active Scanning it can associate to Access Points that have Broadcast SSID disabled. Once the driver and firmware upgrade have been completed, follow the steps below to configure the 3CRWE62092A for Active Scanning. 1. In the DEVICE MANAGER, under the NETWROK ADAPTERS icon, double click the 3CRWE62092A card 2. Select the ADVANCED TAB 3. Select SCAN TYPE from the PROPERTY box 4. Select ACTIVE from the VALUE box 5. Click OKDownload Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
