1.0 WHAT'S NEW IN SOCKETSCAN CE RELEASE 3.2

This version of SocketScan CD ROM v3.2 provides support for all of
Socket's Scanning Peripherals on Windows CE v2.11 or higher.

SocketScan allows the user to change scanning devices without
changing or re-installing the SocketScan software.

Includes minor bug fixes discovered since the last release.

Includes increased functionality for the In-Hand Scan Card-Xtreme
  when scanning PDF417 bar codes.

These enhancements also included in the SocketScan SDK v3.2.

Socket file naming conventions have been changed to better fit
Pocket PC displays. Please see the URGENT notice under Release
Notes below if you currently have an older version of SocketScan
installed on your Windows CE device.

2.0 WINDOWS CE FILE LOCATIONS

This application consists of five files which are copied into the
following directories:

SCKTSCAN.EXE is copied into:
  \Program Files\Socket\SocketScan

SIO950.DLL
ISC.DLL
GUNSCANNER.DLL
SCANAPI.DLL
are copied into:
  \ Windows

3.0 RELEASE NOTES

URGENT: When loading SocketScan on any CE device, any existing
version of SocketScan must first be uninstalled from both your
CE device and your Host PC. Because of a change in Socket naming
conventions, the new version will not replace the older version
and a second SocketScan directory will be created. Please see
Section 4.0 below for detailed uninstall procedures.

URGENT: This software must be installed directly from this CD.
When launching the CD and installing the software in Internet
Explorer, a "File Download" window appears with the options to
either "Run this program from it's current location" or "Save
this program to disk". You must choose to "Run this program from
it's current location". When the Security Warning screen appears,
 click Yes to continue.

Because Netscape does not offer the option of running the program
from the CD, Netscape cannot be used to install this software. If
Netscape is set as the default browser on your system, open
the Internet Explorer that came with your Windows operating
system, click on File, then Open, browse to the CD and open
 setup.htm.

The Palm-size PC v2.01 (the first versions of these units) are not
supported. Though SocketScan may install to one of these devices,
it is not guaranteed to work.

Uninstalling this product from your CE device can cause a conflict
if that device ALSO has a copy of Socket's Digital Phone Card
software for Ericsson or Nokia GSM. The problem is that both
programs share a file, SIO950.DLL. The uninstaller for these
products erroneously removes this DLL despite the fact the file
is still required for the other remaining software. As a result,
uninstalling EITHER the SocketScan program OR the Digital Phone
Card software will render the OTHER program inoperative.

If you do not have BOTH of these programs on your CE device at the
same time, there is no issue. If you do, the best workaround is
to uninstall BOTH packages if you want one of them uninstalled,
then re-install the software package that you want to keep.
Socket apologizes for this inconvenience and will update the
installers for these programs in the near future to prevent the
 need for this work-around.

4.0 UNINSTALL PROCEDURES

Microsoft ActiveSync offers several options for uninstalling
applications on your Windows CE device (e.g. Pocket PC, HPC 2000)

Option 1
To uninstall directly on your Pocket PC using the Remove Program:
  a) Please remove the Socket scanning product from your mobile
device and close the SocketScan software. Failure to do this
will prevent completion of the uninstall process.
  b) Tap on the START menu.
  c) Tap on SETTINGS.
  d) Tap on the SYSTEM tab or CONTROL PANEL.
  e) Double or single tap on the REMOVE PROGRAMS icon.
  f) Tap on (select) the line that says "Socket SocketScan".
  g) Tap on REMOVE.
  h) Tap on YES to confirm removal of the program.

--OR--

Option 2
To uninstall software on your mobile device while connected to
your Host PC, follow these steps on the Host PC:
  a) Please remove the In-Hand Scan Card from your mobile device
and close the SocketScan software. Failure to do this will
prevent completion of the uninstall process.
  b) Establish a connection and partnership (either serial or
     Ethernet) with your Host PC.
  c) Open Microsoft ActiveSync.
  d) Select TOOLS, ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS...
  e) Highlight "Socket SocketScan".
  f) Click REMOVE.
  g) Select OK to confirm removal of the software on your mobile
     device.
  h) Click NO in the next dialog box to prevent the software from
being removed from your host PC.

Regardless of which of these two methods you use to uninstall the
SocketScan software, you will be able to re-install the software
on your Windows CE device by simply going back into the Microsoft
ActiveSync, TOOLS, ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS window, then checking the
box for "Socket SocketScan", then clicking OK.

--OR-

Option 3
To completely uninstall the software from both your mobile device
and your Host PC:
  a) Please remove the In-Hand Scan Card from your mobile device
and close the SocketScan software. Failure to do this will
prevent completion of the uninstall process.
  b) Establish a connection and partnership (either serial or
     Ethernet) with your Host PC.
  c) Open Microsoft ActiveSync.
  d) Select TOOLS, ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS...
  e) Highlight "Socket SocketScan"
  f) Click REMOVE
  g) Select OK to confirm removal of the software on your mobile
     device.
  h) Click YES in the next dialog to confirm removing the software
     from your Host PC.
  i) Click OK twice to close each respective dialog box or window.

This process will permanently remove the SocketScan software from
both your Windows CE device and your Host PC and will require you
to re-install the software from the Installation CD originally
supplied from the factory with your product.
