------------------------------------------------------------------ Installing your STAR MICRONICS Printer Driver In Windows 3.1 ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1. In the Main group, choose the <Control Panel> icon. 2. In Control Panel, choose the <Printers> icon. The Printers dialog box appears. If you have never installed a printer, the dialog box expands to display a list of printers available in the Windows version 3.1 package, and the <Add> button is unavailable. Go to step 4. 3. Choose the <Add> button. The dialog box will expand to display the List Of Printers. 4. In the <List Of Printers> box, select - <Install Unlisted or Updated Printer>. 5. Choose the <Install> button. A dialog box appears, instructing you to insert the disk that has the printer-driver file on it. 6. If the disk is in your A: drive, select the <OK> button. If the disk is in a different drive, type the drive name and then select the <OK> button. Example - if the disk is in the B: drive, type 'B:\', without the quotes, and then select the <OK> button. 7. In the <List Of Printers> box, select the Star printer that you have. 8. Choose the <OK> button. The <Printers> dialog box will appear. The Star printer that you selected is now listed in the <Installed Printers> list. 9. Select the <Set As Default Printer> box. 10. For instructions on how to configure your printer, Please see Chapter 5, "Control Panel," in the "Microsoft Windows User's Guide." 11. Choose the <Close> button. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Installing TrueType Fonts in Windows 3.1 ------------------------------------------------------------------ 1. In the Main group, choose the <Control Panel> icon. 2. In Control Panel choose the <Fonts> icon. The Fonts dialog box appears. 3. Click the <Add> button. The Add Fonts dialog box appears. 4. Put the TrueType disk in the disk drive. 5. Select the appropriate drive (Drives list box) for the fonts on the TrueType disk. The fonts appear in the List of Fonts box. Note that "TrueType" follows the font name. 6. Select the fonts you want to add. To select all the fonts, click the <Select All> button. 7. Click <OK>. The Fonts dialog box appears. When installation is complete, the fonts appear in the Installed Fonts list box. 8. To make the typefaces appear in your application, reselect your printer in Printer Setup in the application's file menu. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- THE FOLLOWING SECTION IS FOR THE SJ-144 PRINTER ONLY !!! IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A SJ-144 DISREGARD THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION !!! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ENABLING THE DIRECT TO PORT OPTION OF THE SJ-144 WINDOWS DRIVER --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- An alternate "Print directly to port" driver has been included with this version of the driver. This driver works only with the SJ-144 printer and a 386SX processor or higher. Please note that this driver may not work with some specialized hardware and software applications configurations. We recommend that you make a copy of your SYSTEM.INI file before you begin. 1. Install the driver as described in the above section "Installing your STAR SJ-144 Printer Driver In Windows 3.1". 2. Exit Windows. This change should not be run from the DOS Prompt icon in Windows. It is necessary to re-start Windows after the modification of the SYSTEM.INI file to allow the changes will take effect. 3. Insert the diskette in the appropriate drive (A: or B:) If the disk is in your A: drive, type 'A:". If the disk is in a different drive, type the drive name. Example - if the disk is in the B: drive, type 'B:', without the quotes. 4. To run the install program, type "INSTVPD" and follow the instructions on the screen. 5. Re-start Windows. For instructions on how to configure your printer, Please refer to Chapter 5, "Control Panel," in the "Microsoft Windows User's Guide." This program searches the current path of the Windows directory for the SYSTEM.INI file and will make the required change. If the default virtual printer device is currently selected (i.e. the line 'device=*vpd.386') exists in the [386Enh] section, it will replace it with 'device=vpd.386'to enable the new virtual driver. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Installing the Label Program for the SJ-144 ----------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Insert the diskette into the disk drive. 2. Change to the drive that you inserted the diskette in by typing the drive letter followed by a colon. Then press ENTER. Example - If you inserted the diskette in the A drive, type 'A:' and then press ENTER. 3. Type INSTALL at the prompt and press ENTER. 4. Follow the instructions on the screen. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
