Procedure of firmware up-grade(DVD-303S,DVD-U03S)

When the drive operates without trouble, the firmware need not be changed. 
Please see Windows 95/98 Device Manager for details concerning firmware 
information on the drive. 
Please click "Start" button to access Device Manager, and, next, click 
"Settings", "Control panel", and "System". 
Next, please click the tab said "Device manager", and click "+" in the 
left of the icon of CD-ROM. 
Please click the drive to which the firmware wants to change, choose "Property",
and click "Settings". 
"Firmware revision number" written in this tab is a version of a present
firmware of this DVD-ROM drive. 

Please check the following items beforehand. 
  ¥Please pull out the disk from the DVD-ROM drive first. 
  ¥Please set SCSI ID of the DVD-ROM drive to 0 with the jumper pin 
   in the rear of the drive, and set SCAM, Disconnect, and synchronous 
   transfer in the use prohibition on the SCSI card side. 

Please add ASPI manager of the SCSI interface card used for CONFIG.SYS
so that this program may use manager ASPI for MS-DOS.
Please see the manual of the SCSI card used for the description method
of adding ASPI manager to CONFIG.SYS. 

[Example to adding ASPI manager to CONFIG.SYS (Case of Adaptec AHA-2940)]

  Please open CONFIG.SYS with editor (or "Note pad" of Windows 95/98) and 
  Please fill in the following one line on the head of C:\CONFIG.SYS:

  DEVICE=C:\ASPI8DOS.SYS /D

  Please save CONFIG.SYS and finish the editor (or "Notepad"). 

* Please work after taking the backup once when changing to CONFIG.SYS. 
* CONFIG.SYS exists in C:\. 
* Please edit CONFIG.SYS separately with EDIT.EXE etc. of OS attachment 
by using since MS-DOS 6.0 or Windows 95/98 start-up disks when OS is only Windows NT. 

The procedure of upgrading drive's firmware is as follows. 

1. The latest firmware (archive file) is downloaded, and unzip the archive file. 
   When the archive file is unzipped, the following files are made. 
   ¥upgrade program : UPG3S.EXE
   ¥Firmware file   : G3SSxxx.HEX (xxx is a version of the firmware)

2.  Please boot the MS-DOS 6.0 or later, or Windows 95/98 MS-DOS mode. 

* This program does not work in WindowsNT and Windows 95/98 DOS window. 
* When OS is Windows NT, please use MS-DOS 6.0 or later, or Windows 95/98
  start-up disks and start the MS-DOS mode.

[ MS-DOS mode start procedure by Windows 95/98 ]
  After starts Windows 95/98, "Exit" of Windows is selected from "Start" button. 
  Please select "Restart in the MS-DOS mode". 
  The computer goes to the MS-DOS mode. 

3. Please move the current directory to the directory which unzip the file. 
   C:Please type and push Enter Key with "C" when defrosting to \. 
   Next, please type and push Enter Key with "cd \". 
   When unzipping to the floppy disk, the floppy disk is inserted in the floppy 
   disk drive, and please type and push Enter Key with "A". 
   Next, please type and push Enter Key with "cd \". 

4. The firmware is updated in the update program.
   Please move the current directory to the directory which unzip the archive file,
   input from the prompt of MS-DOS as follows, and push Enter Key. 

    UPG3S /0 G3SS200.HEX

   Please do not use the personal computer at all until the firmware update is 
   completed.
   Never drop the power supply while upgrade is proceeding. 
   If do so, it causes the breakdown which cannot be recovered. 

5. The version etc. of a new firmware are displayed when the update of the 
   firmware is completed. Please confirm this version.

We recommend that SCSI ID of DVD-303S(DVD-U03S) set 0 and use the Adaptec AHA-2940
and its ASPI manager.
When completing the upgrade of drive's firmware,please once turn off the power 
supply of the computer before use your computer.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
