1. Installation
---------------
1.0. General
~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you have not installed any Pro Series drivers before, you can skip the
instructions for cleaning up the old drivers and go right to the section
that describes the installation of the new drivers. If you have an older
version of the drivers already installed on your system you need to
follow the appropriate uninstall procedure to prepare your system for the
update.
Once you have installed the drivers, be sure to read the Release Notes
located in the TBS Pro Audio program group for additional information on
the Pro Series cards.
If any problems were encountered during or after installing the drivers,
refer to the Testing and Troubleshooting document also located in the TBS
Pro Audio program group.
1.1. Windows 3.1 users
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you have an old installation of Windows 3.1 drivers for the Pro Series
cards use the following procedure to cleanup your system.
To uninstall old drivers in Windows 3.x:
1. Determine the current resource settings of the card, especially the
upper memory block it uses.
2. Open the Control Panel, double-click Drivers, highlight Turtle Beach
MIDI, WAV, AUX and press the Remove button.
3. If you had a Pinnacle installed, repeat step 2 for the Wavefront MIDI
driver.
4. Minimize the TBS Pro Audio program group in the Program Manager,
highlight it, and select Delete from the File menu.
5. From the File menu, select Run. In the dialog box, enter SYSEDIT,
and click OK. The System Configuration Editor opens.
a) In the AUTOEXEC.BAT file, delete the line containing PINCFG.EXE.
b) In the CONFIG.SYS file, if an upper memory manager such as
EMM386.EXE was loaded, there will be an exclude switch that
pertains to the upper memory block used by the card, such as
NOEMS X=D000-D7FF. Remove this exclude switch (NOEMS X=D000-D7FF),
NOT the memory manager.
c) In the SYSTEM.INI file, under the [386Enh] section will be an
EMMExclude statement that refers to the upper memory block used by
the card. Delete this line.
6. Exit Windows and remove the TBS Pro Audio directory with all its
subdirectories. An easy way to do this is to enter the following
commands at the DOS prompt:
deltree C:\tbeach\pinnacle (for an old Pinnacle install)
deltree C:\tbeach\fiji (for an old Fiji install)
deltree C:\tbspros (for a new 3.x install)
To install new drivers in Windows 3.x:
1. Start Windows 3.1.
2. Run SETUP.EXE from the driver disk.
3. Follow the instructions on the screen.
Some users of Windows 3.1x report degraded audio recording performance
which has been traced to use of the /DOUBLEBUFFER switch on the device
line for SMARTDRV.EXE in the CONFIG.SYS file. To correct this problem,
simply edit (with any text editor) the CONFIG.SYS file in the root
directory of your boot drive. Remove the double buffer switch from the
line installing SMARTDRV.EXE program and re-save the file. You will need to
reboot your computer before this change takes effect.
1.2. Windows 95 users
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Windows 95 users that have a previous installation of the Pinnacle or
Fiji drivers need to remove them before installing new drivers.
To uninstall old drivers in Windows 95:
1. Start Windows 95.
2. Run CLEANUP.PIF from the driver disk.
3. A DOS box opens and you are prompted whether or not to continue
uninstalling the drivers. Press Y to continue.
4. Follow the directions given by the cleanup program to uninstall the
drivers, answering Yes or No appropriately.
To install new drivers in Windows 95 Plug and Play mode:
1. Start Windows 95.
2. Windows 95 should automatically detect the card on the first boot up
after installation or cleanup.
3. When the Install From Disk dialog box displays, browse to the location
of the driver disk and click OK.
4. Windows then copies the files from the driver disk. You may be
prompted to provide your Windows 95 CD or floppies.
5. After driver installation the setup program should be launched
automatically and finish the install. If not run SETUP.EXE from the
driver disk.
6. Follow the instructions on the screen.
To install new drivers in Windows 95 legacy mode:
1. Go to Control Panel|Add New Hardware.
2. Click Next, select No, click Next, select Sound, video and game
controllers and click Next again.
3. Click Have Disk..., browse to the location of the driver disk, and
click OK.
4. Select TBS Pro Series Digital Audio from the list of devices, click
OK, and follow the instructions on the screen.
5. If Windows prompts you to restart your computer choose No.
6. If you're installing a Pinnacle card repeat steps 1 and 2, then select
Turtle Beach Systems from the list of manufacturers, and select TBS
Pro Series Kurzweil Synthesizer, click OK, and follow the instructions
on the screen. Do not restart your computer when prompted.
7. Now run SETUP.EXE from the driver disk and follow the instructions on
the screen.
1.3. Windows NT 4.0 Users
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To uninstall old drivers in Windows NT:
1. Open the Control Panel and double click the Multimedia icon.
2. Click the Devices tab. A list of the Multimedia drivers is displayed.
3. Click the (+) button to the left of Audio Devices to open it. This
displays the Pro Series driver.
4. Click Pro Series to highlight the driver and click the Remove button.
5. Click Yes. When prompted to restart click the Restart Now button to
restart the computer.
To install new drivers in Windows NT:
1. Open the Control Panel and double click the Multimedia icon. Click
the Devices tab.
2. At the bottom of the dialog box, click the Add button. The Add dialog
box opens.
3. From the List of Drivers, click Unlisted or Updated Driver then click
OK. The Install Driver dialog box appears.
4. Place the drivers diskette into the floppy drive. In the Install
Driver dialog box browse to the location of the driver disk and click
OK.
5. The Add Unlisted or Updated Driver dialog box appears with the Pro
Series driver. Select it and click OK.
6. If you are reinstalling the Pro Series card or older drivers already
exist on your system, you may receive a Driver Exists dialog box. This
asks you to install either the current drivers found on your system or
new drivers. Click New to continue.
7. The MultiSound Configuration dialog box appears. If you have made any
changes to the configuration on the card, such as the Control Port
address, set them in this dialog box to match the settings on the
card.
8. Click OK when you are done. When you are prompted to restart Windows
click the Restart Now button to restart Windows.
9. Now run SETUP.EXE from the driver disk and follow the instructions on
the screen.
2. Rev and built date of the most critical files

Version 4.03 of the driver disk ships with the following versions of
the various drivers and applets:

Windows 95 users can verify that they're using the latest version of
the drivers by going to Control Panel|System|Device Manager|Sound,
video and game controllers, then double click the appropriate device,
select the Driver tab, and highlight a file from the list. The file
version will be displayed below.

3.4. Multi-card awareness

you can run up to 4 Pro Series cards in one system
- to run multiple cards in one system you must either
* have all but one card configured in legacy mode, using different
jumper settings for the control port, or
* use the PROGRAM.BAT utility in the EEPROM folder to re-program
and serialize your E2PROM's
4. Application Notes
--------------------
4.1 VoxPhone 3.0
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When running VoxPhone for the first time, it mis-identifies the Pinnacle
as being a half-duplex sound card. We have reported this problem to the
manufacturer in the hopes that they will modify their methodology in some
future version of their program. Until then, a Pinnacle/Fiji owner can
use the following workaround to get VoxPhone to operate in full duplex.
- When running VoxPhone for the first time, the Setup Wizard will start
and it will appear that the sound card is not full duplex.
- Proceed through the Wizard and run all tests offered.
- On completion of the Wizard, re-run the Wizard using the Help menu
option entitled "Setup Wizard".
- This time through, VoxPhone will correctly identify your Pinnacle or
Fiji card as a full duplex card.
- Complete the Setup Wizard normally and you will enjoy full duplex
operation using VoxPhone.

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
