CADET AM/FM Radio Data Receiver

Installation Notes

April 25, 1997

These are last minute notes or changes that we want to make you aware of.

Plug and Play Issues:
When you install the software you will re-boot your system and then the initialization
program will begin to scan the AM and FM radio bands to set your station presets. This should take 1 or 2 minutes You should here the audio at this point. An address should appear in the initialization box such as 208 HEX. If the address is 0 HEX and you do not hear audio or the init program stops after just a few seconds you may need to manually move the address of the CADET card.

Even though we are using real Plug and Play hardware, some systems still have difficulty assigning a proper address. This can be solved by going to the Device manager in Windows '95 and manually setting the address.

Manually moving the CADET I/O to a new ADDRESS:

Go to Control Panel, System, Device Manager, Sound and video cards, and check the properties of the CADET. Select the Resources tab, Click on the Automatic Settings and manually move the address to another address that is not conflicting. The base address we use is 330, try something like 208 or 250 or higher than 330. You may have to go through some trial and error to find the best address for your system. If you find a good address you may hear a hiss or a second of audio as the card is initialized.

Manually running CADETINIT.exe:
Once our device driver and software can really find the address of the board run the CADETINIT.EXE again.
This file is located at: C:\Program files\ADS Cadet

Now you should hear the board tuning through the band, setting up the AutoStore presets.
The init program will go through AM band first, then FM band. If no stations are found on either band the system will list the lowest possible station for AM (510) and FM (87.5). Be sure you have your antennas properly attached. You can run the Init program as many times as you like. Each time, it will delete the stored stations and build a new list in the system registry.

If you continue to have Plug and Play problems, we have included some diagnostic files on this disk. Call our Tech Support line and they will have you run a test on the board. Do this only with the aid of our Tech Support Dept. They will be happy to assist you.

A hint on hardware set-up and your CD Audio cable:

Problem: You play CADET and the audio sounds distorted:

Try plugging your Speakers directly into the CADET. Audio will probably sound great.
On some sound cards if you have both a Line Input (like CADET) and your CD Audio cable running into the sound card the audio can become distorted.

Solution: Run your CD Audio cable into the CD Audio In header on the CADET. Now your CD Audio and CADET audio are routed together as one input and you will not have the audio distortion.
