        2. Microsoft USB 2.0 Host Controller Driver for Windows 2000
        3. VIA USB 2.0 Host Controller Driver for Windows Me and Windows 98 SE

6) Directory Layout: There are 1 subdirectory inside this package.
        \Win98&Me: VIA USB 2.0 Host Controller Driver and Filter Drivers for 
                   Windows Me and Windows 98 SE are put inside.

        NOTE: In order to conform to the redistribution agreement between Microsoft
              and VIA, You can ONLY use SETUP.EXE to install driver in Windows XP 
              and Windows 2000.
                            
7) Driver installation:

 a) Windows XP

    Setup will install Microsoft USB 2.0 Host Controller Driver.

    ** Driver Installation **
    *************************
    
      Click the SETUP.EXE program and select "Install" button then it will install 
    the "Microsoft USB 2.0 Host Controller Driver" automatically on your Windows XP 
    system. It will copy the driver to the system folder and set the related registry 
    tree. (Setup Program will also install the QFE [Hotfix Q312370] package for 
    English version FIRST. You do NOT need to do it by yourself).

    ** Driver Uninstallation **
    ***************************
    
      You  could remove the "Microsoft USB 2.0 Host Controller Driver" by selecting 
    the "Uninstall" button. It will completely remove the driver from the sytsem.

 b) Windows 2000

    Setup will install Microsoft USB 2.0 Host Controller Driver.

    ** Driver Installation **

      Click the SETUP.EXE program and select "Install" button then it will install 
    the "Microsoft USB 2.0 Host Controller Driver" automatically on your Windows 2000 
    system. It will copy the driver to the system folder and set the related registry

8) Known Issues/Limitations:

        a) This package is for English user ONLY. There is a Multilingual edition 
           for non-English user.
           
        b) VIA USB 2.0 Host Controller Driver - 
           Limitation:
            1. Only USB wakeup from S3 (by mouse or keyboard) is supported. Of course, 
               your system BIOS should support/enable this function First.
           Issues:
            2. If some specific USB devices are plugged in, you may NOT Hibernate or
               Shutdown the system. 
            3. If you connect a USB 2.0 hub to the root hub and continue to plug some 
               USB devices into this hub. The system would be hung with some specific
               USB devices or these USB devices might not be recognized.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
