README.TXT this file. Congratulation on your purchase of the 56K/33.6Kbps Fax/Modem PC card. This Fax/Modem PC card has been tested under Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT 3.51, and Windows NT 4.0 Platforms. The following sections will provide you with basic guideline installations: 1. Install modem under Windows CE 2. Install modem under Windows 95 3. Install modem under Windows 98 4. Install modem under Windows NT 4.0 Section 1: Install modem under Windows CE ----------------------------------------- The CIO56K Modem is Plug-and-Play compliant and requires no special drivers for use in a Windows CE environment. To verify the CIO56K Modem has been installed properly, follow the steps below: 1. Power on the Palm PC or Handheld PC. 2. Click the 'Start' button. 3. Choose 'Settings' and select 'Control Panel'. 4. In the 'Control Panel' dialog box, click the 'Device' label. 5. In the Device window, Expansion Slot x (x=1 or 2) should show Kingston CIO56K. To test the CIO56K Modem, perform the following steps: 1. To set the dialing pattern: - Click the 'Start' button. - Choose 'Settings', select 'Control Panel' and then select 'Dialing Panel' to set the dialing pattern. Click OK to finish. 2. Setting the connection information - Click the 'Start' button. - Choose 'Program', select 'Communication', and then 'Remote Networking'. - In the 'Communication' window, choose 'Connections'. - In the 'Remote Networking' panel, double click the 'Make New Connection' icon. - Follow the on-screen instructions to make the connection. - Change 'My Connection' to Kingston BBS and set connection type to dial-up connection. Make sure that the Kingston Adapter is in the modem box and click 'Next'. - Change the number to 1 714-435-2636 and click 'Finish'. 3. Double-click on Kingston BBS. Leave username, password and domain blank. Click on Connect. Using the CompactFlash Adapter provided, the CIO56K Modem can function as a Fax/Modem PC Card for use in Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows NT. The following sections provided the instructions. Section 2: Install modem under Windows 95 ----------------------------------------- 1. Boot up into Windows 95. 2. If the CIO56K Modem is not already inserted into a Type II PCMCIA slot, please insert the adapter at this time. 3. Upon startup, Windows will display a "New Hardware Found" Kingston CIO-56K message. 4. Insert the diskette labeled 'Kingston DataRx Compact I/O 56K Modem' and choose "Driver from disk provided by hardware manufacturer" and click the OK button. 5. Select the correct drive letter (usually a:) and click OK. 6. Once the CIO56K is configured you will hear a double beep. Installation is complete. To test the modem, follow the instructions below: 1. Go to the 'Start' menu, scroll to 'Programs', highlight 'Accessories' and select 'HyperTerminal'. NOTE: If HyperTerminal is not installed, go to the 'Start' menu, 'Settings', 'Control Panel', double click 'Add/Remove Programs', go to the 'Windows Setup' tab and double click 'Communications'. Place a checkmark in the HyperTerminal box and click OK to install it. 2. Enter the area code, name and phone number and click 'OK'. 3. Click 'cancel' when prompted "dial or cancel". 4. When a blinking cursor appears on the screen, type 'AT' and hit 'enter'. If the modem is working properly, it will respond with an "OK". Section 3: Install modem under Windows 98 ----------------------------------------- 1. Boot up into Windows 98. 2. If the CIO56K Modem is not already inserted into a Type II PCMCIA slot, please insert the adapter at this time. 3. Upon startup, Windows will display a popup window "Kingston CIO56K" found. The next screen displays "This wizard searched for new drivers for: Standard PCMCIA Card Modem", click 'Next'. 4. When prompted "What do you want Windows to do?", please select "Search for the best drivers for your device (Recommended)" and click 'Next'. 5. Insert the diskette labeled 'Kingston DataRx Compact I/O 56K Modem' and 'Next'. 6. The next screen should display "Windows driver file search for device: Kingston CIO56K", click 'Next'. 7. The Kingston CIO56K should be displayed, click Finish to complete the installation. 8. Once the CIO56K is configured you will hear a double beep. Installation is complete. To test the modem, follow the instructions below: 1. Go to the 'Start' menu, scroll to 'Programs', highlight 'Accessories' and then highlight 'Communications' and select 'HyperTerminal'. NOTE: If HyperTerminal is not installed, go to the 'Start' menu, 'Settings', 'Control Panel', double click 'Add/Remove Programs', go to the 'Windows Setup' tab and double click 'Communications'. Place a checkmark in the HyperTerminal box and click OK to install it. 2. Enter the area code, name and phone number and click 'OK'. 3. Click 'cancel' when prompted "dial or cancel". 4. When a blinking cursor appears on the screen, type 'AT' and hit 'enter'. If the modem is working properly, it will respond with an "OK". Section 4: Install modem under Windows NT 4.0 --------------------------------------------- 1. Log onto Windows NT 4.0. 2. Insert the CIO56K Modem card into an available Type II PCMCIA slot. 3. Click on 'Start', 'Settings', 'Control Panel', and double click 'PCMCIA-PC Card'. Kingston should be on the list, highlight it and click 'OK'. 4. Double click on 'Modems' in the control panel, select 'Don't detect my modem, I will select it from a list' and click 'Next'. 5. Click 'Have Disk' and insert the floppy diskette labeled 'Kingston DataRx Compact I/O 56K Modem' and click on 'OK'. 6. Highlight Kingston CIO-56K and click 'Next'. Select a COM port and click 'Next'. 7. Click 'Finish' and click 'Close'. Installation is complete. To test the modem, follow the instructions below: 1. Go to the 'Start' menu, scroll to 'Programs', highlight 'Accessories' and then highlight the 'HyperTerminal' menu and select 'HyperTerminal'. NOTE: If HyperTerminal is not installed, go to the 'Start' menu, 'Settings', 'Control Panel', double click 'Add/Remove Programs', go to the 'Windows Setup' tab and double click 'Communications'. Place a checkmark in the HyperTerminal box and click 'OK' to install it. 2. Enter the area code, name and phone number and click 'OK'. 3. Click 'cancel' when prompted "dial or cancel". 4. When a blinking cursor appears on the screen, type 'AT' and hit 'enter'. If the modem is working properly, it will respond with an 'OK'. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
