I.  INTRODUCTION
************************

This Readme file provides specific information you should know 
before you install and use the Printing System software.  
Information is provided for the following operating systems:

-Windows XP
-Windows 2000
-Windows NT 4.0
-Windows 95/98/Millennium
-Windows 3.1x

This file provides specific compatibility, and troubleshooting 
information.  For additional information on the printer features 
and driver features, refer to the online help included with each 
software component and the printer user guide.

WHO NEEDS THIS SOFTWARE?

This Printing System software is required to operate an 
HP LaserJet 4100 Series printer. Users will need the 
installation CD, or the name of the appropriate network
directory, to install the software on their individual
workstations.

For a complete description of the Printing System components
and detailed installation instruction, please refer to the 
Installations Notes, (read4100.wri), located under your 
language folder on the Printing System Software CD.

Software location changes

AutoCAD printer drivers are no longer available on the
Printing System Software CD.  Please refer to the
HP LaserJet 4100 printer Software download page at
http://www.hp.com/go/lj4100_software to reference the
AutoCAD printer drivers.

The Resource Manager Utility is no longer available on the
Printing System Software CD. Please use the Resource Manager
link located on the CD Browser under Optional Software to
access the Resource Manager download page.  Resource manager
is also available at the Resource Manager download page at
http://www.hp.com/go/resourcemanager or the HP LaserJet 4100
printer Software download page at
http://www.hp.com/go/lj4100_software.

Documentation additions

In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA),
Hewlett-Packard provides a screen-readable version of the
HP LaserJet 4100mfp Use Guide on Printing System Software CD.
The User manual is located in the English Manuals directory of 
the Printing System Software CD.

Known Issues

Please refer to the HP LaserJet 4100 printer Software 
download page at http://www.hp.com/go/lj4100_software for an
updated listing of known issues for the HP LaserJet Printing
System Software. Reference the link for the "Release Notes" or 
"Readme File" found on the driver download page for the
operating system and driver version to be used.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
