Release Note on Elite 2864, Elite 2864L and Omni 288S
         Version 3.00 March 06, 1999
         =====================================================

 IMPORTANT INFORMATION
=========================
Due to the rearrangement of the EEPROM/NVRAM usage, the Elite 2864 must
perform a hardware reset after the first time upgrading to v3.00 from the
  previous version:

While powering on the modem, please push the "D/V" button for about 5 sec.,
then release that button. Now the modem will start with the typical modem
handshake sounds - it is in the selftest mode and will generate an ASCII
pattern which is sent with 115200 bps to serial port. In this mode all the
S-registers will be initialized, all the stored phone numbers and passwords
will be erased. You then can power off and power on normally again.

 1.) Release filenames:
 ======================
     1.1 "E2864.300" ...... binary firmware for Elite 2864 modem

     1.4 "SWVZES90.INF" ...... serial voice driver for Windows9x/NT4/2000

2.) General information on the Version v3.00 release
 ====================================================
The modem can now be upgraded to the ITU V.90 analog modem protocol.

 2.1) Upgrade procedure:
Use any terminal program and start the firmware upgrade with the
command "ATUPX", as described in the Elite 2864 User's Manual.
A modem's hardware upgrade is not necessary.

 3.) V.90 Debugging and Diagnostics
 ==================================
This firmware version v3.00 may have connection problems with existing
various V.90 terminal servers (used on Internet Service Provider's sides).
Although the ITU-T has officially released the V.90 Recommendation in
September 1998, there might still exist some incompatibilities between
the ZyXEL Elite 2864 and Omni 288s modems.

If you want to report incompatibilities or problems concerning the V.90
modem connections, please use the following standard method to log some
useful debugging information for ZyXEL R&D and send your reports and
feedback to ZyXEL technical support by eMail to support@zyxel.com.tw

This debugging information is very helpful for ZyXEL's R&D firmware
engineers and developers to solve a specific problem.

additional background information for the debugging
----------------------------------------------------
(1) CONNECT 3200L/38666/28800/ARQ/V.90/V42b
in this extended/debugging CONNECT message (is S52=96)
the "3200L" or "3200H" means the baud (symbol) rate of V.34 upstream.
       "L" means "low carrier frequency"
       "H" means "high carrier frequency"

    V.34 protocol:
    baud rate Carrier(L) Carrier(H)
     2400 1600 (Hz) 1800 (Hz)
     2743 1646 (Hz) 1829 (Hz)
     2800 1680 (Hz) 1867 (Hz)
     3000 1800 (Hz) 2000 (Hz)
     3200 1829 (Hz) 1920 (Hz)
     3429 1959 (Hz) 1959 (Hz)

(2) ATi12
    Rx Carrier = 0 Hz
---> There is no carrier for V.90 downstream.
Because the V.90 technology is not a kind
of modulation tech. (V.32, V.34), it is a
         coding tech.

    Rx baud rate = 8000
---> baud rate of V.90 downstream, same as the
sampling rate of ISDN, E1 or T1 network.

(3) connected via PABX.
----> Please don't connect the analog modems Elite 2864 and Omni 288S to
an analog PABX with (A/D+D/A) converter. Otherwise, the V.90
connection is impossible. Usually, the connection performance is
          much worse via PABX.

    Case 1:
         Digital Analog
     ISP ------- C.O.(D/A)------ E2864 (O288S)

    Case 2:
         Digital Digital Analog
     ISP ------- C.O.----------- Digital PABX(D/A)------- E2864 (O288S)

    Case 3:
         Digital Analog Analog
     ISP ------- C.O.(D/A)------ Analog PABX (A/D+D/A)------ E2864 (O288S)

----> Case 1 and Case 2: V.90 connection is possible. And usually,
Case 2's performance is worse than Case 1.
   ----> Case 3: V.90 connection is impossible. (V.34 only)

4.) firmware modifications for updated Windows9x/NT4/2000 "INF" driver
 =========================================================================
4.1) the updated INF driver file for Windows9x/WindowsNT 4.0 and
Windows 2000 Beta 3 is called:
"MDMZES90.INF" which will be available on ZyXEL's FTP servers too.
4.2) ATX8 command = multiple lines connect response strings:
the single line (ATX0 to ATX7) CONNECT message will be split and
reported in several lines now as in following example:

      example: meaning:
      <cr><lf>CARRIER 45333<cr><lf> DCE rate (modem's link speed)
<cr><lf>PROTOCOL: V42<cr><lf> error correction protocol in use
<cr><lf>COMPRESSION: V42b<cr><lf> data compression protocol in use
<cr><lf>CONNECT 460800<cr><lf> DTE rate (serial line to computer)

 4.3) modified ATI9 response
      Microsoft's Plug&Play ID string
      (.$ZYX21E9\0000A5DC\MODEM\\ ZyXEL Elite 2864 V 3.00 FA)
This is used to identify the new firmware in the new "MDMZES90.INF"
      INF driver file for Windows9x/NT4/2000.
The product code (Elite 2864) is coded into Plug&Play ID: "ZYX21.."
The country code (AT#H) is coded into Plug&Play ID: "ZYX..E9",
where the low byte is HEX value of the country code. In this example
it is 0xE9 which is decimal 233 -> Austria

10.) HISTORY of ZyXEL's V.90 code development
=============================================

issues in v3.00
---------------
+ Add "ats67.6=1" command to ignore the Phase 2 probing result and
     always run V.90 mode.
+ Add "ats69.3=1" command to indicate that the remote V.90 server is the
     Livingston PM3.

v3.00 fixes these bugs:

         =====================================================

 1. Fixed modem bugs:
 --------------------
    1) AT command and response:
.When using numerical result code (ATV0) and you issue the "AT+FMFR?"
command, a <cr> is missed out. What we see is 'ZyXEL0<cr>', but it
        should be "ZyXEL<cr>0<cr>".
.When you enter "AT&F&L1&WZ" in leased line mode during handshaking,
modem will not do auto handshake any more. And modem will response
as "keyboard abort" if you key in any command.
.The error control level and data compression protocol showed in the
connect message should be "NONE" while the setting of remote ZyXEL
        modem is "&M1" or "&M3".
.Modem will response error while "ATZ4S0M0N0=1" is entered.
.When value 'n' in the "ATSr=n" command is greater than 255. Modem
        will response error.
.Modem will not response error either "ATMOLO" or "ATO26" is entered
.Modem will not response error while "AT#REV=?" is entered.
.Modem will not response error while "AT#CLS=?" is entered.
        (WinFax 8.0 compatibility)
.The answering modem has compatibility problems with some PABX while
        "ATS0=1" command is entered.
.Modem will not response "No Answer" when "ATDxx@" command is entered
and status register S7 timer happens time out.
.When the command "S38.0=1&WZ" is entered,we can not use the keyboard
        to abort the cyclic dialing.
.Some characters will be lost when DTE uses 460800 bps speed to send
        command to modem.
    2) V.25bis command set:
.The acknowledge of the first command after power on will be lost.
.Fail to select mark idle in V.25bis HDLC by using bit 1 of status
        register S41.
    3) Physical layer problems:
.Fail to detect ring signal in France.
.When the local modem with the "&N0&B0" setting and 2400 bps DTE speed
calls to a remote modem with the setting "&N15". The local modem will
        reset.
.Modem will not initate a FRN procedure any more in v.32 mode when FRN
        ever happened once.
.The "*Q3" function works improperly in not V.34 mode.

.There must be no "RING" report to DTE when ring signal is coming.
.There is one more "RING" report to DTE
    7) Security function:
.The answering modem will not initiate a V.34 remote cleardown
procedure during security callback function, *G4 or *G5. Such that
the calling modem will not hang up immediately while using the
callback function and the answering modem can not make a call
        successfully.
    8) Diagnostic feature:
.Fail to do "RLB" or "ALB" tests according to the ITU-T signals 140
and 141 on EIA-232D interface while bit 3 of status register s41 is
        set.
.The "Chars Received" displayed in "ATI2" command should not always be
        '0'.

 2. Fixed fax bugs:
 ------------------
.The connect speed is incorrect while "AT+FDCC=1,2" or "AT+FDCC=1,4"
    command is entered.
.In fax mode the modem should not report "CONNECT FAX" to DTE if s38.3=1,
because this will cause some software to assume a data call.
.In standalone fax mode, the incoming call will not detect "busy" during
FAX printing from DRAM to printer.
.In fax mode, modem should not response "NO CARRIER" to DTE even the call
is droped, fax is sent or received successfully.
.The double quote ("string") is missed out in command response for +FTSI,
    +FCSI commands.
.Sometimes the 'V32b' and 'V34' LEDs are still turned on during the fax
    transfer.
.While using the Hylafax software to drive the modem to transmit a fax,
modem will send the first page three times and then disconnect the call
    abnormally.

 3. Fixed voice mode bugs:
 -------------------------
The result code of detecting ringback signal in voice mode should be
    "<DLE>r" instead of "RINGING".

Release Note on Elite 2864(L) and Omni 288S, Version 1.14
     ============================================================

 1. Fixed modem bugs:
 --------------------
    1) Special dialing feature:
.Modem does not finish dialing of numbers specified after P modifier
and hangs for a time specified in S7 register. For example when
"ATDT9WP8W10-886-3-578-7045" is entered, modem will report
        "NO CARRIER".
.When bit 4 or register S35 is set, the modem will not dial the
default phone number while the user press the DATA/VOICE switch in
        synchronous operation mode.
    2) AT command and response:
.When "AT&FX0" command is entered, the modem will report connect
message as "CONNECT 38400" instead of "CONNECT" only.
.When "ATM2" command is entered, modem will turn speaker off when
        retrain happened in ZyCell mode.
.The modem does not prompt the hint message and erase the flash
memory directly while the user keyin the "ATUPX" command with "ATQ1"
        disabling sending result code.
.When the "AT&N65" command is entered, the modem will report some
additional blanks in the "Last Speed/Protocol" field of "ATI2"
        command.
.When "AT&M2X0" command is entered, the modem will response garbage
and one more CR after connect message "CONNECT ".
.When direct mode "AT&M2" command is entered, the modem will not send
file correctly with 8E1 in data state.
.When "LF" is entered after "AT<CR>" command in escape state, modem
        does not response "OK"
    3) Security function:
.When the call and anwer modems are entered with "AT&K0" and
"ATS0=1*G5" respectively, the call modem can not enter the call
        back number after the connection.
.When two Elite modems entered with the "AT&F&T4*F1S2=61" and "ATS0=1
&T4*F1*G5" in call and answer mode respectively, the call modem can
not read the remote configuration successfully.
.When the level 2 security function is enabled, modem will request the
user to key in the password with the "Password" prompt instead of
"PassWord". Note that the "PassWord" prompt is used in ZyXEL U-series
        modem.
    4) Physical layer stability:
.ZyCell protcol can not accept any data from the remote site after
        the connect message.
.When the "ATX6&N16&T1" is entered, modem will report "NO CARRIER" and
modem will turn on CD when issue the "AT" command after the report.
.Modem can not connect with Supra modem with V.34 mode under some
        worst line condition.
.Modem will get a lower speed than the inital handshaking when the
retrain procedues happened oftenly in data state.
    5) Link Layer compatibility:
.There is a compatbility problem with "Octocom" modem. When ZyXEL
calls it with V.22bis/MNP4 mode, ZyXEL modem can not accept any
data from it after the connect meessage be displayed.
.In Italy, ZyXEL modem can only connect Digicom modem with error
control mode under 26400 bps link speed. For 28800 bps link speed,
the connection is non error control mode.
.There are some characters will be missed in file transmission when
software flow control XON/XOFF (&H4) is enabled.
    6) V.25bis command set:
.Modem will not support use profile 2 to make a connection with AS/400.
    7) Error control procedure:
.Improve the efficent in echo delay testing and file transfer with
        XMODEM protcol.
    8) Diagnostic feature:
When the call and answer modems are entered with "AT&F&T4&K3" and
"AT&F&D0S0=1&T4" respectively, the TST LED of calling modem will turns
       on after the connection.

 2. Fixed fax bugs:
 ------------------
    1) If user want to print a fax, user issue "AT+FZP<CR>" and there
should be <1F><OK> response from modem. But this does not happen
and will cause problems in writing the application for this function.
    2) Cannot receive a fax correctly after a V.34 data connection:
    3) The modem will report incorrect result code to ZFAX when there are
incomfing fax stored in DRAM and ZFAX try to retieve fax from modem.
    4) Setting the modem with AT+FZF=1, 4 or 5 and DTR is off, the modem
will answer the modem call instead of dropping the modem call.
    5) When modem stayes in DRAM fax reciving mode (clsaa Z, +fzf=2) without
RS-232 cable, modem can not accept AT command anymore after reciving
a fax and plug in the RS232 cable.
    6) When modem stayes in class Z service, modem can not make an outgoing
       data call.

 3. Added new feature:
 ---------------------
User can issue an "ATI12" command to get the physical layer parameters
choosed in V.34 mode. This information is reliable only in the escape
state. Since the Near End echo and Far End echo reports are not ready,
they will be filled with "-xx.x" and will be implemented asap.
One of the example is as following:

                                                               March 14, 1996

Release Note on Elite 2864 Version 1.12 (aka "CeBIT'96 Release")
      ----------------------------------------------------------------

 1. Fixed modem bugs:
---------------------
    1) Failed to work with the external sync clock:
In the external synchronous clock (AT&X1) mode, the modems could
connect to each other but had a lot of bit error.
    2) The O288S firmware could not recognize the incoming ring signal in
       Germany.
    3) Modem hang when security function enabled:
When the security function was enabled by AT*G1 or AT*G2 and the
entered password was wrong, the modem should hang up and report
"NO CARRIER". But the modem hang in an unknown state.
    4) Incorrect password response in security function:
When security function was enabled by AT*G5, the echoed password was
followed by "<CR>" instead of "<CR><LF>".
    5) Abnormal hang-up when security function was enabled:
When the security function was enabled, the modem could not perform
analog loop back test by AT&T1 command. The modem would hang up and
report "NO CARRIER" immediately after connection made by "AT&T1"
command. With ATI2 command, the disconnect reason was shown as
       "Security Check".
    6) Wrong break handling:
After pressing the control-break key, the TXD LED lights up for a very
short time and the RXD LED lights up for a longer time. When the
control-break key was pressed again, only the TXD LED lights up but the
       RXD LED remains off.
    7) Did not report the first RING:
For example, the auto-answer mode was enabled by setting S0=1. When the
first ring signal came, the modem went off-hook directly and starts to
handshake without reporting "RING" to the DTE.
    8) Compatibility problem with Penril modem:
When the modem was connecting with the Penril modem, the handshaking
would fail during the phase 2 of V.34 hand shaking procedure.
    9) Wrong help message:
If the multi-language feature of Germany version was enabled (S63=1),
a wrong message "&N61 V.34b 31200" would be shown on screen with "AT&$"
       command.
    10) Wrong indication of AA LED:
The indication of AA LED was incorrect when the modem was set by the
        following command sequence:
        . AT&FS1=1&WZ :
. AT&FS0=1 : AA LED lights on and indicates auto-answer mode.
. ATZ : AA LED lights on but the S-register S0 is equal to 0.
    11) Failed to respond to the ATX0D command:
When "ATX0D;" command was entered, modem would hang and fail to
        accept the AT command.
    12) Could not detect incoming ring signal:
After executing "ATDxxxx;" and then "ATH" command, the modem would not
be able to recognize the incoming ring signal.
    13) Failed to dial with the synchronous V.25bis command:
When the modem started dialing with the V.25bis "CRN" command, the
dialing digits did not go through and then modem went on hook.
    14) Failed to perform the analog loopback with self-test (AT&T8) in the
        non-error control mode (AT&K0).

 2. Fixed fax bugs:
 ------------------
    1) Wrong result with the "ATI2" command after FAX send/receive:
After a fax connection, with the "ATI2" command, the modem reported
the last baud rate with the wrong value of "28800".
    2) Improved reliability of V.21 HDLC receiving.
    3) The compatibility problem with Panasonic fax machine:
When the FAX machine did not send the ANSWER tone, the modem would
disconnect the outgoing call instead of sending out the fax.
    4) The problem of the Postscript FAX receiving/printing fixed.
Postscript printing margin can be configured by paper type.

 3. Fixed voice bugs:
 --------------------
Incorrect RI lead indicator of RS232:
When modem went off-hook to answer the incoming call and play the voice
greeting message in the voice mode, RI lead (pin 22 of RS232) kept high.
Even aborting or terminating the voice playing, RI was still high.

 4. New modem features:
 ----------------------
    1) Support Germany message display for commands:
       . ATI2 : report link diagnostic status
. AT&Vn : view current active or user profile settings
       . AT#B3 : measure the ring cadence
       . ATDL : dial the last-dialed number
    2) When the DTE speed was set to 19200, the highest connection rate
would be limited to 19200 bps.

 5. New fax features:
---------------------
A fax protocol capture utility was implemented for debugging the
FAX compatibility problem. This feature is not available for the FAX
    direct printing mode.

    S76: bit0 = 1 FAX response capture enabled
         bit1 =  1       FAX command capture enabled
         bit2 =  1       V.21 HDLC Tx/Rx capture enabled

Use "AT+FZX?" command to show the captured log on terminal.

 6. New voice features:
-----------------------
    1) Add three sampling rate : 7200, 8000, 11025 bps
    2) Add three digital compression algorithm : DVI ADPCM, A-law PCM,
       Mu-law PCM.
    3) The command "AT+VSM=?" will show you how to use these new features.
        AT+VSM=?
         2 ;ZyXEL ADPCM ;2Bit ;(7200,8000,9600,11025)
         3 ;ZyXEL ADPCM ;3Bit ;(7200,8000,9600,11025)
        30 ;ZyXEL ADPCM ;3Bit ;(7200,8000,9600,11025)
         4 ;ZyXEL ADPCM ;4Bit ;(7200,8000,9600,11025)
        40 ;DVI ADPCM ;4Bit ;(7200,8000,9600,11025)
        80 ;A-law PCM ;8Bit ;(7200,8000,9600,11025)
        81 ;Mu-law PCM ;8Bit ;(7200,8000,9600,11025)
        OK
For example, to set DVI ADPCM with 8000 sampling rate, you use the
       command:
        AT+VSM=40,8000
The power on default sampling rate is 2Bit ADPCM with 9600bps.

If "AT&L1" command is entered, modem will go to handshaking procedure
       immediately.
    5) Incorrect response for numeric form result code (ATV0):
If "AT&K0&N14V0" command is entered, modem reports connect message as
"10" instead of "10<CR>" after connection.
    6) Unable to use V.25bis command set.
    7) Sometimes in data state, the modem does not disconnect when DTE drops
       the DTR signal.
    8) Impoved the reliability of recognizing the dial tone, busy tone and
       ring signal in Italy.

 3. Fixed fax bugs:
 ------------------
    1) Incorrect response:
Modem reports "+FHNG:70" followed by "NO CARRIER" while the incoming
       call is a voice call.
    2) Some compatibility problems of class 1 commands with Win95.
now the modem responses to the AT+FCLASS=? inquiry with the string
       "0,1,2,2.0,6,8,Z"

 4. Fixed voice bugs:
 --------------------
    1) Fix the problem of BUSY tone detection of Italy:
In Italy, the modem does not recognize the busy tone in voice mode.

If bit7 of register S57 is set (default is reset), an additional
connect message will be displayed on the screen. The additional
message is "DATA" or "FAX" for data or fax connection respectively.
       For example,
                        AT+FCLASS=1
                        AT+FAA=1

         example 1: DATA
                        CONNECT 115200/V34 28800/V42b/SREJ

         example 2: FAX
                        CONNECT

    4) The capability of fax receiving in class 6 is configurable.

Release Note on Elite 2864 Version 1.10 Dec. 22, 1995

 1. Fixed modem bugs:
 --------------------
    1) Improper remote configuration:
The local modem can not read or write the remote modem's profile on
       connection.
(Note: Remote configuration is not inter-operable between an Elite
       2864 and a U-1496 series modem. The Elite 2864 has more S-registers
and some S-registers have different meaning.)
    2) AT&T6 (initiate remote digital loopback) does not work.
    3) Fail to recognize the dial tone of some PABXs:
During dialing, the modem reports "NO DIALTONE" when the dial tone
is not a continuous signal (with ON/OFF cadence).
    4) Incorrect LED indication of dialing, handshaking and retrain:
The V32b LED does not flash on and off for 1/2 second each to indicate
that the modem is dialing. Neither do the V34 and V32b LEDs flash
on and off for 1/2 second each to indicate that the modem is in
       handshaking or retrain.
    5) "ATM3" does not work:
With the "ATM3" command, the dialing tone is still heard from speaker.
    6) Type 1 security function does not work (the *G1 and *G2 commands).
    7) Does not support up to 50 passwords in security function:
For example, in *G4 setting, the modem is not able to detect any
password at location from #10 to #49.
    8) Unable to recognize ring signal on some bad local loop lines.
    9) Incorrect repeat dialing function:
When bit0 of S38 is set, the modem will not dial the same number again
while the modem reports "BUSY" after dialing.
   10) Incorrect cyclic dialing:
When bit3 of S44 is set, the modem will not dial the second number
while the modem reports "BUSY" after dialing.

 2. Fixed fax bug:
 -----------------
    1) Incorrect LED indicator:
When "AT+FCLASS=6" command is entered, the V34 LED turns off in
       multi-auto mode (AT&N0).

 3. Fixed voice bug:
 -------------------
    1) Sometimes the modem hangs after issuing <DLE><ETX> to finish playing
       voice.

 4. Add new features:
 --------------------
    1) Set the dial back timer S64 for security call back function:
       (default=0, in seconds)
With level 2 security, the answer modem will disconnect the line if
the password has been found in its pre-stored acceptable list.
The answer modem will dial back the phone number corresponding to the
dial-in password, when the dial back timer (containded in S64) is
       reached.
If the content of S64 violates the PTT regulation, the dial back timer
will be automatically set to the value defined in PTT regulation.
S64 can be used to control the dial-back waiting time to avoid dialing
back too quickly that the calling modem's line is still busy.

Release Note on Elite 2864 Version 1.09 Dec. 8, 1995

 1. Fixed modem bugs:
 --------------------
    1) Fail to recognize the Italian dial tone.
    2) Failure in dial tone monitoring:
When "ATH1" command is entered, the modem goes offhook but there is no
dial tone coming from the modem's internal speaker.
    3) Incorrect response for numeric form result code (ATV0):
For example, when "AT+FCLASS?" command is entered, modem responds with
"0<CR>0<CR>" instead of "0<CR><LF>0<CR>" in numeric form.
    4) Problem on forcing V.22bis retrain:
In V.22bis escape state, when "ATO1" command is entered to force the
modem to request a retrain, the connect message shows "V.32 9600T".
       And sometimes the retrain fails.

 2. Fixed fax bugs:
 ------------------
    1) Problem on fax reception:
Sometimes the top portion (the first half inch) of the received page
is chopped off when the receiving speed is 14400bps.
    2) The AT+FZF=1 setting is not saved with AT&W command.

 3. Add new fax feature:
 -----------------------
    1) The local ID string (AT+FLI=) can be saved to EEPROM with AT&W
       command.

 4. Add new voice features:
 --------------------------
    1) Some programmers need the feature to enable the speaker when recording
from telephone line. In this version, we let users use VLS=18 (16+2,
speaker and Telco Line) to enable the speaker.
    2) Some programmers also report that the transmit level of Tone (+VTS)
and Voice (+VTX) are different. In this version, we let users set
the transmit gain separately, AT+VGT for Voice and AT+VGN for Tone.
The default value of AT+VGT is 128. The default value of AT+VGN is
       60.
    3) In this version, users can use s60 bit 4 to disable the Telco line
       playback AGC.

 5. Important notes for voice programmers:
 ----------------------------------------
From version 1.07, the Near Echo Cancellation is disabled as the default
setting, this decreases the sensitivity and reliablity of DTMF detection
when playing voice message. Set the s60 bit 7 will enable the NEC !

Release Note on Elite 2864 Version 1.08 Nov 27, 1995

 1. Improved V.34 performance:
 -----------------------------
    1) Solve the "carrier lost 1" problem:
When connected with a modem employing Rockwell's chipset, after about
10 minutes of connection, the modem will drop the line with disconnect
       reason shown "carrier lost 1".

 2. Fixed modem bugs:
 --------------------
    1) Cannot report "BUSY" while waiting for the first and second dial tone:
If bit6 of S57 is set, the modem will report "BUSY".
If bit6 of S57 is reset (default), the modem will report "NO DIALTONE"
    2) Problem with V.23 mode connection:
The modem will hang-up within 5-6 seconds of V.23 mode connection.
    3) Wrong change of S-register:
When "AF+FCLASS=0" command is entered, the S register S19 will be
       cleared.
    4) Cannot transfer file using XON/XOFF control:
Modem hangs up the call when using XON/XOFF flow control for file
transfer. And the disconnect reason shows "Local Hang Up".

 3. Fixed fax bugs:
 ------------------
    1) Fail to detect busy tone:
After dialing out the number, the modem does not report "BUSY" when
the central office sends busy tone to modem.
    2) Fail to go on-hook:
If the modem answers a call with "AT+FCLASS=1;FAA=1;A" command and
there is no response from remote modem, the modem will report
"CONNECT", "ERROR" and then "OK". But actually the modem does not go
       on-hook.
    3) Wrong LED indicators:
If DRAM is installed in modem and "AT+FZF=3" command is entered,
the EC and SP LEDs keep on after pulling out the RS-232 cable.

 4. Fixed voice bugs:
 --------------------
    1) Fail to switch off the power to telephone jack:
If "AT+FCLASS=8" and "AT+VLS=1" is given, the loacl telephone is still
powered after "AT+FCLASS=0" command is entered.
    2) Wrong response to "AT+VSM" command:
When "AT+VSM" command is entered with incorrect values, the modem does
not respond with an "ERROR" message.
    3) Both V34 and V32b LEDs are not turned off in voice mode.

 5. Add new features:
 --------------------
    1) Support Russian CNI detection.

 6. Note:
 --------
    1) Change the default value of ring volume control from "N5" to "N3".

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Release Note on Elite 2864 Version 1.07 Nov 16, 1995

 1. Improved V.34 performance.
 -----------------------------

 2. Fixed modem bugs:
 --------------------
   1) Wrong response to ATDT<phone number>;H command:
the modem doesn't hang-up after dialing the phone number.
   2) Wrong response to AT&FX7S6=5&W1Z1 command:
viewing the setting by AT&V, the modem responds with the default
setting of X5 and S6=2, in stead of X7 and S6=5.
   3) Wrong AT command entered in escaped state will cause hang:
if any wrong AT command is issued in escaped state, the modem will
not respond to any futher AT commands. Modem should be powered off
        and on to reset.
   4) Modem hangs:
when the modem is ringing and the RS-232 cable is pluged in, then the
modem will not respond to any futher AT commands. Modem should be
powered off and on to reset.
   5) Unable to send data calling tone for V.32b/V.22b/ZyX19200/ZyX16800
        modes.
   6) Connection problem when calling tone enabled:
When the calling tone is enabled (AT&F&N0S48.2=1), the connection
made with U-1496 plus models can only reach 16800 bps (the 19200 bps
        connection is not possible).
   7) Wrong LED display:
When the modem is connected with ZyX 19200 or 16800 bps, the LED V34
and V32b are ON. That is OK. But when you enter "+++" escape command
and then "AT" command, the V32b LED goes OFF.
   8) The S14 register does not contain the exact value of the command AT*M0
and AT*M1. For example, with command ATZ1*M1&V, the display shows the
value of S14 bit 0 is 0; with command ATZ1S14.0=1&V, the display shows
        *M0.
   9) The supervisory password entry can take only 7 characters:
Try setting for example password #8 but type more than 8 characters
        and you will get "ERROR".
  10) Problem of connecting to host with 7 data bits, even parity and 1 stop
        bit protocol:
There is a problem when you try to connect to the "telebanking"
service, where 7E1 protocol is used. What is supposed to happen is
that you enter the user ID followered by <CR>, and then the host
prompts you for the password. The bug is as soon as a numeric digit
is entered, it behaves like a <CR> has been entered as well, and the
host prompts for the user-ID again. After 3 incorrect attempts, you
        are automatically logged out.
  11) On the password table, for example setting *G4, the modem is not able
to detect any password at location #10 to #49.

 3. Fixed fax bugs:
 ------------------
   1) In direct fax printing mode (AT+FCLASS=Z and AT+FZF=0), when a data
call comes, the modem serial port will hang. (Can't switch from
      parallel port to serial port.)
   2) V34 and V32b LED doesn't goes off in FAX mode.
   3) CD on immediately after dialing in FAX Class 1 mode.
   4) In fax DRAM retrieing mode, the RS-232 RI signal is not sent to DTE
when "RING" string is sent to DTE.

 4. New fax printing feature:
 -----------------------------
   1) Support Postscript Printer.
   2) Support HP DJ500 series Inkjet Printer.
   3) Support Serial Port Fax Printing.

AT+FZT=? : View current setting of Fax Speed in Direct
                Fax Printing Mode.

Usage of Direct Fax Printing via serial port:
   ---------------------------------------------
    1) Connect modem to PC via the RS-232 serial port.
    2) Use a terminal Software to communicate with Modem
    3) Set Baudrate = Serial Printer's Maximum Baudrate.
(For example, if the max. baudrate of your serial printer is 38400,
please use 38400 for terminal software)
    4) Setup S72. (0,1 for PCL, 2 for Postscript printer)
    5) Set AT+FZF = 0. (Direct Fax Printing)
    6) Set AT+FZT Value.
(This value relies on the printer speed, baud rate of serial port and
printing language (Postscript is faster than PCL).
The principle on deciding this value is:

PRINTING MUST BE FASTER THAN FAX RECEVING!!!

Because in AT+FZF=0 mode, received data is sent to printer directly.
Therefore, fax printing speed must be faster than fax receving speed.
Otherwise the internal buffer will overflow and some scanlines must
        be discarded.

First, you can try AT+FZT=150. If it is OK, then you can try 100,
64, 48, 32, 16 and 0 to get the optimal speed. This value depends on
        your printer's printing speed.

    7) Setup S73.
(Configure fax printing options, bit 0 must be 1 for serial printing)
    8) If auto-receving is needed, please set S0=1.
    9) Set AT+FCLASS=Z. (Enable Fax Printing)
   10) Use AT&WZ to store current setting to profile 0.
(Store All S-Regs and Baudrate Settings in EEPROM)
   11) Connect modem to printer Via the RS-232 serial port.

Note: 1) In Serial Printing Mode, only DTR flow control is supported.
Please setup your printer to accept DTR flow control.

         2) Because the modem's serial port type is of DCE type, the
printer's serial port type must be of DTE type. If the printer's
serial port is also of DCE type, a NULL MODEM adapter (or cable)
            is needed.

<1> Modem in normal operation :
                             RS-232 Cable
                 Modem(DCE) <------------> PC(DTE)

<2> Modem is connected to a DTE Serial Printer:
                             RS-232 Cable
                 Modem(DCE) <------------> Printer(DTE)

<3> Modem is connected to a DCE Serial Printer:
                                          RS-232 Cable
                 Modem(DCE) <--> Adapter <------------> Printer(DCE)

         3) In order to achieve maximum throughput, please use the maximum
            baud rate your printer permits.

 5. Fixed voice bugs:
 --------------------
1). Playing problem with 3-Bit ADPCM data.
2). Increase the reliablity of VCON detection.
3). Enhance the voice quality of local telephone phone set.

 6. Add new voice features:
 --------------------------
1). When first playing through telephone line, the default setting is
disable the Near Echo Cancellation. The users can enable this feature
by setting the bit 7 of s60 to 1.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Release Note on Elite 2864 Version 1.06 Sep 13, 1995

 1. Improved FAX V.17 receiving performance.
 2. Improved FAX V.21 sensitivity.
 3. Improved FAX printing quality.
 4. New FAX feature:
    (1) Function of s73 bit3:
        Set S-register s73 bit 3 to 1 (ATS73.3=1) will enable direct FAX
printing application to print longer FAX pages to LETTER size paper.
For off-line DRAM receiving and printing application, if s73 bit
3 is set to 1 the printing driver will automatically and dynamically
select a zooming factor and print the FAX pages to fit the selected
paper size. The zooming factor depends on the page length of the
received FAX. The default setting of this feature is on (s73 bit 3
        is set to 1).
    (2) AT+FZL? command:
        Show FAX receiving log
        For example,
No. Remote FAX ID Speed Pages Size Status Hardcopy Retrieved

               "Hardcopy" ------- FAX printing status
"Retrieved" ------ Retrieved by FAX software if marked "YES"
    (3) AT+FZP=nn command:
Print the received FAX by specifying the session log number "nn".

 5. Fixed bugs:
    * FAX CNG tone transmitting:
Sometimes it works but sometimes it doesn't work.
    * Data calling tone:
When the data calling tone is enabled and a connection is made to another
modem, the remote modem will show the wrong connect message like
"CONNECT 115200/V.22 1200/NONE", but acturally the connection is not
      successful.
    * AT*Pn:
AT*Pn can not be saved to profile. For example, originally at&f&v shows
*P11. When at*p9&w0z&v is issued, the modem still shows *P11 instead
      of *P9.
 6. Improved performance on FRN (fast rate renegociation).

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Release Note on Elite 2864 Version 1.05 Aug 14, 1995

Release Note on Elite 2864 Version 1.02 Aug 01, 1995

 1. Fixed bugs:
    * ATS0:
If you give ATS0=3 or other values, very often the modem answers on
        the first ring.
    * ATS1:
The S1 register does not collect the number of rings received.
    * ATS38:
The command S38=32 (or S38.5=1) that disables MNP5 doesn't work.
    * MNP hang:
After retraining and connecting on MNP mode, the modem will "hang"
and can not accept any command.
    * V32bis hang:
When the modem is connected in V32bis, sometimes, the connection can
not be dropped by lower DTR. The DTR LED is always ON and the modem
      has to be turned off.
    * The sending and reception of break signal does not work correctly for
      error control mode.
    * The response of ati2 command (following at&z? command) is incorrect.
    * When the modem is connected in V.22bis, the SQ LED will flash or
      always OFF.
    * When ATQ2 is issued, the modem still responds to EDR and gives RING
      message.
 2. ATI2 will display both transmission and receiving connection rate.
 3. Remove two <CR><LF> from at&v response.
 4. Add AT&N12 to on-line help menu.
