3. User guide for drivers installation

  <1> Installation of USB Driver:

      1) Plug in one side of a USB LAN Adapter.
      2) A "New Hardware Found" window pop-up. 
      3) A window saying:
         This wizard searches for new drivers for:
	 "USB LAN Adapter"
         appears.
      4) Click "Next"
      5) A windows saying:
         "What do you want Windows to do?"
         appears.
      6) Make sure "Search for the best driver..." is selected
         and click "Next".
      7) On the next window that appears, check the box marked:
         "Specify a location" and type a:\ at the bottom of the
         window and uncheck the other boxes. Click "Next".
      8) A Window saying:
         "USB LAN Adapter" and "Location of driver: A:\USBHLINK.INF"
         will appear.  Click "Next".
      9) Click "Finish" on the next window that appears.
     10) Now you have to install the Network driver, please see the following
         section.

  <2> Installation of Network Drivers 
     
      A. Windows 98/98SE

         1) Click the "Start" button.  Select "Run...", Type a:\setup.exe 
            in the command line and click "OK".
         2) A window will appear asking for "Typical Installation" or 
            "Advanced Installation".  If you select advanced installation, 
            the Windows 98 network control panel will be launched and you 
            will need to install the KwikLink Network Adapter drivers 
            manually. If you select "Typical Installation" proceed with the
            following steps.
         3) A window will appear asking for a computer name. Type one in and
            click "Next".
         4) A window will appear asking for a workgroup name. Type one in and
            click "Next".
         5) A window will appear asking for a description.  Type one in and
            click "Next".
         6) A window will appear asking if you want to assign your own IP
            address. You can choose to let Windows pick an IP address but 
            this will lengthen the time it takes for your computer to boot.
            If you choose "Yes", proceed to the next step.
         7) Enter the IP address for this computer on in the four entry 
            boxes. Click "Continue".
         8) The network drivers for your computer will now be installed. 
            There may be periods of inactivity up to ten seconds.  You 
            may be asked to insert your Windows 98 CD or for the location 
            of your Windows 98 CAB files.  When the driver installtion is 
            finished, you will be asked to reboot.
            Eject the driver disk and click "Yes".
         9) After reboot your computer should be ready to go.

      B. Windows 2000

         1) Click the "Start" button.  Select "Settings"->"Control Panel",
            Double click "System" icon, select "Hardware" ->"Hardware Wizard"
            click "Next".
         2) A window will appear asking for
            "Select the Hardware task you want to perform, and then click 
            "Next". Select "Add/Troubleshoot a device" and then click "Next". 
         3) A window will appear asking for
            " Choose a Hardware Device ". Select "Add a new device" then 
            click "Next".
         4) A window will appear asking for 
            "Do you want Windows to search for your new hardware ?"
            Select 'No, I want to select the hardware from a list"
            click "Next".
         5) Select "Network adapters", then click "Next".
         6) Click "Have Disk.." button.
         7) A window will appear asking for 
            "Copy manufacturer's files from:"
            Type A: in and click "Next".
         8) Click "OK".
         9) Select "USB LAN Adapter", then click "Next".
        10) Click "Next" -> "YES" -> "Finish". Then Next step is setting your 
            Network protocol.
        11) Click "Start" -> "Settings" -> "Network and Dial-up Connections"
        12) Double click "Local Area Connection".
        13) Click "Properties". And you will see the "USB LAN Adapter" network 
            configuration.
        14) Uncheck "Netbeui Protocol"
        15) Select "Internet Protocol[TCP/IP]"
        16) A window will appear asking for
            "Obtain an IP address automatically" or
            "Use the following IP address"
            That depends on your network environments.
        17) Click "OK" -> "OK" -> "Close"
        18) Now you have completely installed the USB LAN Adapter's Network 
            driver.
            
  <3> Un-installtion of the USB LAN Adapter

   1. Make sure the USB LAN Adapter is unplugged.  Click the "Start" button.
   2. Select "Settings..."
   3. Select "Control Panel"
   4. Double-click on "Add/Remove Programs"
   5. Select "USB LAN Adapter" from the list.
   6. Click the "Add/Remove" button.
   7. A windows will appear asking to reboot.  Click "Yes".
   8. After reboot, the USB LAN Adapter is completely un-installed.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
