A) SUPPORTED ATI PRODUCTS and NEW FEATURES

The display driver included in this package is for Microsoft Windows NT 4.0. This driver may be used with ATI products based on the Rage PRO, Rage LT PRO, Rage IIC and VT4 chipsets.

This software bundle, (n42040en.exe) contains language support for;

C) PRIOR to USING n42040en.exe

Be sure to UNINSTALL any previous version of ATI display driver prior to installing this version.

D) USING n42040en.exe

1) You must download n42040en.exe and save it to a directory on your systems hard disk. For example C:\temp is a common directory used to initially save a file into. 

2) Once you have downloaded n42040en, close all programs, click the Start button and select the RUN menu item. Click the Browse button. Browse to the directory where n42040en.exe was saved. Select n42040en and click OK to run the program.

3) Follow the instructions on the screen.


DISPLAY DRIVER installation instructions after running n42040en.

1.  Run the Windows NT Display program located in the Control Panel, under "Settings" in the Start menu. Alternatively, position the cursor on the background of the desktop, click the right mouse button, then select "Properties" from the popup menu.

2.  Select the "Settings" page.

3.  Select "Display Type...".

4.  Select "Change..." from the display options.

5.  Select "Have Disk..."

6.  NT will prompt you for the correct path, enter C:\ATI\SUPPORT\n42040en. Confirm that ATIRAGE.INF is selected and click "OK" twice.

7.  A list of ATI graphics accelerators will be displayed. Select the card you are using, then click on the "OK" button.

8.  Windows NT will once again prompt for confirmation. All appropriate files are then copied to your Windows directory.

9.  Restart Windows NT.  Windows NT will start up using the new drivers.

10. NT will boot into a default mode and start the Display applet allowing for mode selection.

After successfully installing the driver, you can delete the contents of the directory C:\ATI\SUPPORT\n42040en using the 'Remove ATI Temporary Files' icon.

We recommend that you keep a copy of the n42040en.EXE, in case you need to install the driver again.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
