DESCRIPTION:  	These are the drivers needed to install and configure 
		the Compaq Global Mini PCI 56K (V.90) modem or the 
		Compaq 56K (V.90) Mini PCI modem or the Intel(R) 
		PRO/100+ MiniPCI NIC in select Armada M300, M700, V300,
		E500 and E700 Series notebook models.  

                IMPORTANT: Before installing this software, verify that the 
                model number on the modem agency label on the bottom of the 
                unit corresponds to one of the following:  
		1456VQL10H, 1456VQL10J, U98.003.C.00, or U98.004.C.00

Enhancements/Fixes:
 - Enhanced modem performance on 1-800 lines.
 - Enhanced compatability with Cisco head-end modems.
 - Fixed NIC APM power management and legacy docking with IPX (Novell)
	bindings.
 
Also includes same fixes included in previous softpaq 12941:
 - Updated setup.exe for NT4.0 to eliminate 26 character limitation 
	during installation.
 - Corrects problem with Warm and Hot docking/undocking on Armada 
	docking stations.
 - Provides V.90 performance improvements on certain 1-800 lines.
 - Corrects problem with blue screen that occured under an isolated 
	scenario: upgrade modem drivers, then Suspend/Resume, then
	Wake On Ring event.

HOW TO USE:

1.  Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive and change 
to that directory.  The file that is downloaded is a self-extracting
executable with a filename based on the SoftPaq Number above.

2.  From that drive and directory, execute the downloaded file 
and follow the on-screen instructions to unpack the files.
The number of files to be created and total file size is displayed.
You will be given the chance to specify the target directory for 
the files, or default to the download directory.

3.  After the files have been unpacked, you may delete the  
self-extracting file downloaded in step 1.

4. To install the modem drivers, run SETUP.EXE from the drive and 
directory path chosen in step 2.  For example, use the task bar to 
select Start, then Run. 
   
   Enter:
           <path>\SETUP  (i.e. C:\TEMP\Modem\Win9x\SETUP)

   Select OK and follow on-screen instructions.


WIN9X NIC DRIVER INSTALLATION:

5. For FIRST TIME installation of the NIC drivers, point to the drive 
and directory path chosen in step 2.  For example, when prompted, type
the path to the NIC drivers: 
   
   Enter:
           <path>\Net82557.INF  (i.e. C:\TEMP\Network\Net82557.INF)

   Select OK and follow on-screen instructions.

6.  To UPDATE to a newer version of the NIC drivers
	a. Select start, settings, then control panel.
	b. Double click the "System" icon.
	c. Select "Network Adapter".
	d. Select the "Intel PRO/100+ Mini PCI"
	e. Select the "Driver Tab", then select "Update Drivers"
	f. Choose "Select from a List"

7. Point to the drive and directory path chosen in 
step 2.  For example, select "Have Disk", type the path to the NIC
drivers:
 
    Enter:
           	
	   <path>\Net82557.INF  (i.e. C:\TEMP\Network\Net82557.INF)

   Select OK and follow on-screen instructions.


NT4.0 NIC DRIVER INSTALLATION:

8.  To Install or UPDATE to a newer version of the NIC drivers
	a. Select start, settings, then control panel.
	b. Double click the "Network" icon.
	c. Select the "Adapter Tab".
	d. Select the "Intel PRO/100+ Mini PCI"
	e. Select the "Update Drivers" button
	
9. point to the drive and directory path chosen in 
step 2.  For example, when prompted, type the path to the NIC drivers: 
    
    Enter:
           	
	   <path>\Net82557.INF  (i.e. C:\TEMP\Network\Net82557.INF)
	
   Select OK and follow on-screen instructions.

10. After a successful installation, the files unpacked in step 2 may
be deleted if you wish.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
