Answer the questions asked by SETUP

GETTING STARTED USING THE IPEN

After the installation is complete, and the sytem is
restarted, the iPen is active. In fact, both the iPen and
the mouse are active. You can use either pointing device
  as you choose.

How the iPen works - the pen is battery operated. It sends
signals to the tablet. It has two buttons (or switches),
    just like a mouse.

TIP - the tip of the pen has a switch that operates like
the left button on a mouse each time the pen tip is pressed
down on the surface of the tablet. To use it:

o Hold the pen in a near vertical orientatation

o Press down on the tip of the pen, like you would press
down on the tip of an ink pen when writing

SIDE - the switch on the side of the pen operates in
conjunction with the TIP switch to provide the functionality
of a right button on a mouse. To use it:

      o Squeeze the side switch

o Point the pen at the screen object you wish to right click

o Press down on the tip of the pen. It is the sequence
of holding the side switch while pressing the tip switch
        creates the right mouse action.

Waking up the pen - to save battery life, the pen automatically
turns off if the TIP switch is not pressed for about five
minutes. To wake the pen up, press the TIP switch. You
have to press it on the tablet, you can press it on the desk
    or wherever you like.

Holding the pen - hold the pen in a nearly vertical
orientation. It doesn't have to be straight up and down,
but too much of a tilt makes the pen tip difficult to
    operate.

Operating modes - the iPen tablet has two operating modes. These
modes are indicated and selected by two icons on the iPen
tablet surface. To change mode, use the pen to click (press
the TIP switch on) either icon.

o ABSOLUTE MODE - use this mode for writing, signing,
annotating, and drawing. The tablet surface is mapped
one to one to the computer screen. Every movement of
the pen is precisely duplicated on the screen.

o RELATIVE MODE - use this mode for simple menu navigation
and mouse like operation. The pen operates just like
a mouse. A small movement of the pen results in a
relatively large movement of the screen cursor.

UNINSTALLING THE iPen

From the START menu, select SETTINGS and then CONTROL
    PANEL
Double click the ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS icon
Under the INSTALL/UNINSTALL tab, click 'iPen and Wintab'
  Click the ADD/REMOVE button
You must restart (reboot) your computer for the serial port to
    be free

TROUBLESHOOTING NOTES

Did you know you have to press the pen tip down on the tablet
to wake it up. To save battery life, the pen 'goes to sleep'
when not in use, and you wake it up by clicking the pen tip.

If the tablet doesn't work at all, try running the tablet test
contained in the SETUP.EXE program you used to install the
iPen. To re-run SETUP, you will first have to UNINSTALL the
iPen and Wintab drivers (see UNINSTALL above). Run the
SETUP program again and this time use the 'Check for tablet
presence' button to verify the tablet is responding correctly.
A common problem is to not be able to tell to which COM port
the tablet is connected. Using the SETUP program in this
way, you can select a COM port then test the tablet. The
program tells you whether or not the tablet is connected and
operating correctly on the selected COM port. At this point
the SETUP program allows you to run a test that displays
the actual pen status. If SETUP reports that the tablet
is connected and operating, but there is no response
displayed in the second test, the problem is almost
  certainly the Pen itself.

  Pen problems -

Is the battery inserted correctly - the positive end of the
battery (marked with a plus +) is closest to the tip of the
      pen.

Is the battery dead - you can purchase a replacement at most
      local drug stores.

After running SETUP.EXE the system hangs for ever with the
message: 'Please wait while your computer shuts down'.
This is an annoying problem with some Windows 95
installations. After a short delay (perhaps 10 seconds)
it is perfectly acceptable to restart your computer manually.
That is press the RESET button or turn it OFF (wait for five
seconds) then turn it back ON.
