hp Color LaserJet 2550 Flash Utilities for 20040624 Release Firmware

Note:

This utility is in English only.

* The hp Color LaserJet 2550 series Firmware Update Utility can be performed using either 
  a Parallel or USB port. 

	- When using the USB port, the hp Color LaserJet 2550 series software must be installed 
	prior to using this utility. 

	- When using the parallel port, the hp Color LaserJet 2550 series software does not need 
	to be installed.  Connect the 2550 series printer to a PC with the Firmware Update Utility 
	loaded using a parallel cable. 

* You will need 20MB of free disk space to use the Firmware Update Utility.

* The hp Color LaserJet 2550 series printer must be in a READY state and remain powered on during 
  the entire firmware update process.

* Administrator Privileges are required on the PC executing the utility.

* The control panel of the printer will display a series of flashing lights. 

* After the Firmware Update Utility has finished, the hp Color LaserJet 2550 series printer will 
  display a solid green Ready light (second from the bottom).  Depending on the operating system 
  on your PC, you may be prompted to reboot your computer.

* To determine the version of firmware of your hp Color LaserJet 2550 printer, print a 
  Configuration Page by pressing the Go button (green) and the Cancel button (Red) on the printer's
  control panel. This will cause the printer to print a configuration page. The firmware version
  is listed on the top left part of the page, under Product Information - Firmware Datecode.

This utility is for use on Windows 95, 98, ME, 2000 and XP. It can ONLY be used with parallel 
or USB connections. 



Instructions for upgrade:



* For users connected via the network, please temporarily disconnect your hp Color LaserJet 2550 
  series printer from the network to ensure the network devices to not interrupt the firmware
  upgrade process.



### Parallel Cable connection:


1.  Connect a PC to the hp Color LaserJet 2550 series printer via a parallel cable.
  

    - You do not need to install the HP software for parallel upgrades.

    - If the "Add Hardware" wizard starts when you plug in the parallel cable, you can safely 
      cancel it.


2.  Double click the Flash Update utility.


3.  Click 'OK' to begin the process. The utility will go through the following steps:


    - Close all toolbox and HP software running on the host PC.

    - Upload firmware to printer, at which point the printer lights will start flashing until 
      complete.  

    - Printer will then erase the old firmware and write the new firmware and reboot itself.  

    - Utility will prompt user to reboot PC (to resync printer, restart toolbox and HP softwware)


4.  DO NOT POWER CYCLE THE PRINTER during the upgrade process or it will leave your printer in an 
    unusable state.


5.  Once the utility is complete, it will prompt you to reboot your PC and printer to resync the 
    printer and the HP Toolbox.


6. The firmware update can take up to 5 minutes to complete.  Please be patient.



### USB Connection:


1.  In order to use USB to update your printer, you must have the hp Color LaserJet 2550 series 
    printer software installed on your PC.


    You do NOT need to have toolbox installed.  A driver only installation will work fine.


2.  Ensure your hp Color LaserJet 2550 series printer is connected to the USB cable.


3.  Double click the Flash Update utility.


4.  Click 'OK' to begin the process. The utility will go through the following steps:


    - Close all Toolbox and HP software running on host PC.

    - Upload firmware to printer, at which point the printer lights will flash until complete.  

    - Printer will then erase the old firmware and write the new firmware and reboot itself.  

    - Utility will prompt user to reboot PC (to resync printer, restart toolbox and HP software)

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
