IS USB CORRECTLY INSTALLED?

if you connect to the USB Ethernet Adapter and nothing happens, you may have a
problem with the USB setup. To determine if USB is correctly installed, proceed as follows:

1. Right-click on 'My Computer'
2. Click 'Properties'
3. Select the 'Device Manager' tab
4. If 'Universal serial bus controller' is not listed:

        A. USB is not installed on your machine
        B. Contact your system manufacturer for instructions on installing USB  support

5. If 'Universal serial bus controller' is listed:

        A. Click the '+' sign next to the title to expand that section
        B. Highlight 'USB Root Hub'
        C. Click 'Properties'
        D. Verify that the USB Root Hub is working properly

If the Root Hub is working, you may have a problem with the USB Ethernet

The driver (EN1046.SYS) contained in the DISK is for
the following Accton USB EN1046 10/100 Ethernet adapter:

        Accton's EN1046 USB 10/100 Ethernet Adapter

The driver (EN1046.SYS) conforms to the Network Driver Interface
Specification (NDIS) 5.0, and is used with Microsoft Windows 98
or Windows 2000 (NT 5.0).

    1. Plug Accton's EN1046 adapter into one of USB Port.

    2. Turn the power ON, then boot from Windows 98.
    3. When Windows 98 prompts with "Accton USB 10/100 Adapter" in
       "New Hardware Found" dialog box, click the "Next" button.
    4. Select "Search for the best driver for your device (Recommended)"
       form the "Add New Hardware Wizard" dialog box, then click the
       "Next" button.
    5. Insert the Accton EN1046 Driver Diskette in your floppy drive.
    6. Select "Specify a location" and type Path "A:\" in the
       "Add New Hardware Wizard" dialog box, then click the "Next" button.
    7. Click the "Next" button in the "Add New Hardware Wizard" dialog box.
    8. Windows 98 will prompt with "Accton EN1046 USB 10/100 Ethenet Adapter"
       in the "Add New Hardware Wizard" dialog box.
    9. Click the "Next" button in the "Add New Hardware Wizard" dialog box, then
       Windows 98 will copy the driver (EN1046.SYS) from A:\
       to the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory and the EN1046.INF file from A:\
       to the C:\WINDOWS\INF directory.
   10. When Windows prompts with "Accton USB 10/100 Adapter"
       in the "Add New Hardware Wizard" dialog box, click the "Finsh" button.
   11. Remove the Accton EN1046 Driver Diskette from your floppy drive.
   12. Restart your computer to initialize the network function.

       NOTICE!! C:\WINDOWS is the directory where your Windows 98
                O.S. is located.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
