File Description:
-----------------

     \1STEP\1STEP.TXT Readme File
     \1STEP.BAT EN2220/EN2225 Installation and Configuration
                            Batch File
\CBSTEP.EXE MPX Link, Hardware Diagnosis, and
                            Software Installation Utility

Starting the Program
====================

From a DOS prompt, insert the Driver Diskette in the floppy
drive (e.g. A:), and type:

   1STEP

1STEP.BAT executes the EN2220/EN2225 DOS enabler program CBOPOEN.EXE,
and then the EN2220/EN2225 installation and diagnosis program
CBSTEP.EXE.

Note that 1STEP.BAT, CBOPEN.EXE, and CBSTEP.EXE are designed to
work in a native DOS environment. It is not recommended to run these
programs in a DOS box under the Windows 95 or Windows NT operating
systems.

CBSTEP provides the following functions:

        MPX Link
        Hardware Diagnosis
        Software Installation

These functions appear as selection items in the CBSTEP Main Menu.

MPX Link
=========

You can use this function to automatically log on to a
Novell NetWare server. This function copies the appropriate
drivers from the Driver Diskette to your hard disk, creates the
necessary configuration files, initializes the network adapter, and
logs onto the nearest NetWare server. Follow these steps to bring up
the MPX Link function:

1. Execute 1STEP.BAT.

2. Click the <MPX Link> button.

3. Insert the EN2220/EN2225 Driver Diskette in the floppy drive
and press OK. CBSTEP copies all the necessary
driver files to the \NWCLIENT directory on the hard disk.

4. CBSTEP creates the STARTNET.BAT file and the NET.CFG file.
STARTNET.BAT specifies all the commands needed to log on to a Novell
server. The NET.CFG file specifies the parameters for the EN2220/EN2225
   Novell Netware client (DOS/ODI) driver.

5. CBSTEP then executes STARTNET.BAT to log on to the
nearest Novell Netware server. The server prompt appears.

Hardware Diagnosis
==================

1. When you click on the "Hardware Diagnosis" button in the Main
Menu, the EN2220/EN2225 diagnostic program ACCTEST.EXE is invoked.
ACCTEST.EXE displays all the EN2220/EN2225 cards installed in the notebook.
You can use the up and down arrow keys to select the card to test.

2. You can use the following function keys in ACCTEST:

<F1> Resets all counters which report network status in the
            "Network Function Test"

<F2> A toggle switch to turn the "Network Function Test"
            ON or OFF

<ESC> Terminates current test and returns to CardBus PC Card
            selection screen

ACCTEST tests several items. The screen displays either a PASS
or a FAIL verdict to indicate the result of each test. If a test
item fails, a description dialog box appears at the bottom of the
screen to display an error message, the possible reason for the
   failure, and suggested solutions.

Running the ACCTEST program on a single notebook verifies the proper
functioning of the EN2220/EN2225 CardBus PC Card installed in this notebook
and the attached cables. However, this does not check if all the
components on the network work correctly. For a more complete test,
it is recommended to installed EN2220/EN2225 cards in two notebooks,
and bring up ACCTEST on both notebooks and use "Network Function
Test" to command the notebooks to send packets to each other over the
   network.

While the Network Function Test is running, the number of packets
transmitted and the number of packets received since the start
of the test are displayed on the screen. The CardBus PC Card's
performance in bits per second (BPS) is also calculated and
   displayed.

Software Installation
=====================

This function helps the user to install driver files for various
network operating environments. This function is most useful for
installing the Novell Netware client (DOS/ODI) driver files. For
most other operating systems, since these operating systems come with
their own installation program and the user has to follow the
installation steps exactly, the "Software Installation" function merely
displays installation hints for the user. The user should also refer to
the readme.txt files under each driver's subdirectory for more specific
instructions on driver installation.

1. Select the Network OS.

2. Select Frame Type (Novell only) --- Select the Frame Type
required for EN2220/EN2225. Selections include Ethernet_802.2,
   Ethernet_802.3, Ethernet_II, Ethernet_SNAP. The default frame type
for NetWare 3.x is Ethernet_802.3 and for NetWare 4.0 is Ethernet_802.2.

3. Selecting Media Type --- The default Media Type is Auto Detect.
   Selections includes the following:

         1. Auto Negotiation
         2. 100BaseTx
         3. 100BaseTx Full_Duplex
         4. 10BaseT
         5. 10BaseT Full_Duplex

4. Specify the Driver's Directory Location --- Enter the
desired directory location to install software in the box labeled
   "Target Directory".

5. Menu Bar Command --- The menu bar under the title bar
contains File, Action and Help menu items. Selecting any of these
opens a pull-down menu containing a list of commands. Use the
mouse or keyboard to make a selection; and follow the
   instructions to complete the operation.

   * File Menu --- displays commands for opening a DOS shell
or exiting to CBSTEP's main screen.

   * Action Menu --- contains commands to install the selected
software or update the specified drivers. These functions
can also be performed by using the <F2> and <F3> function keys.

   * Help Menu --- provides software version and copyright
information under the "About" command. The "Help" command
provides on-line assistance for the functions available in CBSTEP.
