Installing the Microsoft Word 5.0/5.5 Printer Driver
These steps describe how to install the new HP LaserJet III family printer
driver into Word 5.0 or Word 5.5.
1. Copy the files from the printer disk containing the LaserJet III family
PRD files into the Word subdirectory.
Example: copy a:HP*.* c:\WORD5 <enter>
2. Start Word as you normally would.
3. If you are using Word 5.0:
(a) Press [Esc], select [Print] then [Options]
(b) Highlight the PRINTER field and press [F1] to display the list of
available PRD's. Select a PRD that supports your model of printer.
(c) Highlight the MODEL field from the PRINT OPTIONS screen and press
[F1] to get a listing of available printers. Select the LaserJet III,
LaserJet IIID, LaserJet IIISi or LaserJet IIIP.
4. If you are using Word 5.5:
(a) Press [Alt], select [Files] then [Printer Setup]
(b) Press [Tab] to activate the "Files" box. Use the arrow keys to
highlight the desired PRD from the list.
(c) Press [Tab] [Tab] to activate the "Printer Name" box. Use the
arrow keys to highlight the LaserJet III, LaserJet IIID, or
LaserJet IIISi printer.
Below is a listing of the available PRD's for the LaserJet III family of
printers.

The HP3FNTS1.PRD (supporting PC-8 symbol set) and HP3FNT1I.PRD (supporting
PC-850 symbol set) have the following font support:
Distinctive Documents I, Compelling Publications I, as disk based
Typeface Collections or Scalable Cartridge, and CG Triumvirate,
CG Triumvirate Condensed, Futura II, ITC Avant Garde Gothic,
ITC Lubalin Graph, and Microstyle.
The HP3FNTS2.PRD (supporting PC-8 symbol set) and HP3FNT2I.PRD (suppporting
PC-850 symbol set) have the following font support:
Brilliant Presentations I, Compelling Publications II, as disk based
Typeface Collections or Scalable Cartridge, and Decorative Words I as
a disk based Typeface Collection.
The fonts will be designated in the Format Character screen with the
following abbreviations:
DD1 Distinctive Documents I - Disk based/ Cartridge
CP1 Compelling Publications I - Disk based/ Cartridge
BP1 Brilliant Presentations I - Disk based/ Cartridge
CP2 Compelling Publications II- Disk based/ Cartridge

The additional internal fonts are only supported on the following PRDs,
but a LaserJet IIISi model is provided in every PRD, except those
supporting landscape only.

Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
