USB CD-ROM DRIVES

When installing the hp LaserJet 1000 by connecting the printer to
the computer before installing the software (commonly referred to as
Plug-and-Play) with the Installation CD loaded in a USB connected
CD-ROM, errors may occur.

These errors may occur because Plug-and-Play begins on the hp LaserJet
1000 before the software has completely loaded support for the USB
CD-ROM.

This problem may be avoided by waiting for the computer to completely
boot before connecting the printer, or by running SETUP from the
Installation before connecting the hp LaserJet 100 to the computer.

USB MICE WITH USB HUBS

When installing the hp LaserJet 1000 by connecting the printer to
a USB HUB which also has a USB mouse connected, the hp LaserJet 1000
may not be recognized correctly by Windows. If this occurs, you will
see an unknown device in Control Panel / System / Device Manager.

Follow the steps below to remedy this problem:
	1. Delete the unknown device in Device Manager
	2. Unplug the mouse from the USB HUB
	3. Reboot

Plug-and-play should proceed normally.

WINDOWS 2000 INSTALL FAILS WITH "FUNCTION DRIVER WAS NOT SPECIFIED" MESSAGE

When installing the hp LaserJet 1000 on Windows 2000 the installation may

not specified for this device instance." If you see this message, follow the

	1. Finish the installation by continuing on from the error message.
You will see an additional error message "Your printer is not
completely installed until the USB cable is plugged in to the
computer". This error message is normal.

NOTE: Before proceeding make sure the computer is set to view
all files. Do this by double-clicking My Computer, then
click the Tools menu, and select Folder Options. Next
click on the View tab. In the View tab, under Advanced
Settings, select Show Hidden Files and Folders. Click

	9. In the "Locate File" window, browse to X:\winnt\inf, and click Open.

NOTE: Substitute for "X:" the appropriate driver letter on which
	         Windows 2000 is installed.

	10. The box under "Copy manufacturer’s files from:" should read:
	    X:\WINNT\inf. Click Okay.

	11. Your computer will find a file named OEMXX.inf (where XX will be
replaced by a number). Check the box that says "Install one of
the other drivers" and click Next.

	12. In the list of drivers presented, select usbprint.inf and click
	    Next.

	13. Once the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard completes the installation,
	    click Finish.

	14. Return to the Device Manager window. Click on the "+" to the left
of "Universal Serial Bus controllers" to expand the entry. Confirm
that "hp Laser Jet 1000" is NOT listed, and that "USB Printing

	7. When no more matches are found, go back and delete the
	   directory found in step 1.
	8. Reboot
	9. Install the hp LaserJet 1000 software by running SETUP.

BROWSE FOR INSTALL DIRECTORY DOES NOT WORK

Right-to-left language users installing on Windows 98 or Windows ME may
be unable to install driver files to any other folder than the default.
This is due to a defect in the installer program. There is no work
around at this time.

NOTE: Only a few files will be installed to this directory and they
      consume very little space.

ADD PRINTER MESSAGE "... PRINTER COULD NOT BE INSTALLED"
