About Intel SBA and this Readme
===============================

The Intel SBA software is usually pre-installed on the computer by the manufacturer
or the company from which you bought the computer. Intel SBA includes help documentation
available from the main application after installation. The help opens when you click
the "?" icons, links in a window, or press F1. The help is context sensitive and will open
to a page in the help that contains relevant information. The help was translated into
14 languages, and will automatically open in the same language that the operating system
is running. If the language of the operating system is not supported, the English version will open.

This readme contains additional information about Intel SBA that was not included in the help documentation.

Manufacturers and Resellers:
This readme describes the minimum requirements for installing Intel SBA. For more information
about how to install and customize Intel SBA, refer to the OEM/Reseller guides (in pdf format)
that are included with the Intel SBA release.

Note:
 * The Intel(R) Management Engine software kit must be installed.
   (The Local Manageability Service and the Intel(R) Management Engine Interface
    must be installed and running.)

Supported Operating Systems
===========================
This release of Intel SBA was validated on these operating systems:
  Windows* 7 Professional 64-bit and 32-bit (Service Pack 1)
  Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit (Service Pack 1)
  Windows 8 PRO 64-bit and 32-bit
  Windows 8.1 PRO 64-bit and 32-bit

Note:
 * Intel SBA should also work correctly on other versions of Windows 7 and Windows 8
   that were not validated.
 * Intel SBA also requires Microsoft .NET Framework installed on the computer.
   Intel SBA can run on either version 3.5 or 4.5 of Microsoft .NET Framework.
   One of these versions is usually pre-installed with Windows. If one of these versions is not
   installed, the Intel SBA installer will try to get it from the Internet and install it on the computer.
 * Intel SBA cannot be used on more than one operating system on the same computer.
   The operating system that is used to configure Intel SBA is the only operating system that you
   can use to run Intel SBA. This is because, during configuration, Intel SBA configures the
   Intel(R) Management Engine hardware component. Trying to use Intel SBA on multiple operating systems
   on the same computer will cause existing settings to be replaced and then set incorrectly.
 * Some Intel SBA applications put the computer to sleep when they complete their tasks. To do this,
   the operating system must support the S2 and S3 sleep power states. If the operating system does not
   support these sleep states, the Sleep option is not shown in the list of Shutdown options.
   (To see the list of supported shutdown options, click the desktop and then press <Alt + F4>.)
   If these sleep states are not supported, or disabled, Intel SBA applications cannot put the
   computer into the sleep state when they complete.

Installer
=========
 * The Setup.exe must be run with a user that has local administrator permissions on the computer.
 * For installation to complete successfully, the Windows Installer service must be running.
   If the Windows Installer service is not running or is disabled, setup will fail with this error message:
   "The setup program failed to start one or more application processes. Setup will exit."
 * For increased security, the installer checks the digital signatures of files used by Intel SBA
   during installation/uninstallation. In certain conditions, this check can take a few minutes.
 * After installing Intel SBA, in some conditions, the service does not start and cannot
   be started manually. This can only occur if both of these conditions are true before
   starting the installation:
   1. The Chinese version of Kingsoft* Antivirus is installed on the computer.
   2. The computer is connected to a network, but the internet connection is not working or blocked.
   Because the service does not start, the console will return internal errors when you try
   to use it. To solve this problem:
   1. Disconnect the network cable from the computer.
   2. Open the Services window.
   3. From the list of Services, select the "Intel(R) Small Business Advantage" service.
   4. Click Start to start the service.
   5. After the service has successfully started, reconnect the network cable to the computer.

 Health Center
================
 * In certain conditions, after running the Windows Update task the computer is not put to sleep. This can
   occur when updates have been downloaded and are ready to install. Windows Update runs a process in the
   notification area of the taskbar to notify the user about the updates. This process (Wuauclt) prevents
   Intel SBA from changing the power plan and putting the computer to sleep.

Data Backup and Restore
=======================
 * In certain conditions, Windows File History remains in the "OFF" state after it is configured via the
   Data Backup and Restore application. This can occur if you open the application manager of Intel SBA
   using the "run as administrator" option. You must always open the application manager with the user
   with which you are currently logged in to the computer.
