V. Important General Information
Make sure that your notebook has a Cardbus
PC Card slot.
A. Toshiba Topic 97-based Controller Notebooks
For Toshiba Topic 97-based controller notebooks
using the Pentium II processor and running
Windows 98 or Windows 95 OSR 2, setting the
PC Card controller to Auto Mode may optimize
performance.
To determine if you have a Topic 97:
1. Using the Control Panel, click the System icon.
2. Click Device Manager and then click PCMCIA Socket.
3. Topic 97 will be listed as the controller.
Check with your notebook vendor for more information.
B. Docking Station or Port Replicator
Some notebook docking stations do not
properly manage resources for the CardBus PC Cards.
If you notice this problem, we recommend that you
install the CardBus PC Card in the CardBus PC Card
slot in the notebook itself and not in the PC Card
slot in the docking station or port replicator.
C. Pre-Pentium II Toshiba Notebooks
For Pre-Pentium II Toshiba notebooks, set the BIOS to
CardBus mode as described in the User Guide.
Check with your notebook vendor for procedures
for setting CardBus mode on other models.
D. Duplex Operation
The 3Com network drivers support full-duplex operation
(sending and receiving data simultaneously).
E. BIOS Information
Make sure to use the latest BIOS available
for your notebook. Contact the notebook manufacturer
for more information.
F. Network Link and Full Duplex Selection
When you select the Network Link Selection in the Network
Properties window, this new value overrides the duplex
setting in the EEPROM, which can be set with the DOS
diagnostics.

10FULLDUPLEX keyword in the NET.CFG file. Do not
change the default "Auto Negotiation" value with
the DOS Diagnostics.
