Introduction
============
The Canon Driver Configuration Tool is a utility for changing the factory
default settings of Canon printer drivers, and creating configured driver
sets. For example, if the system administrator wants to reduce paper
consumption, he/she can create a driver set in which the default setting for
[Page Layout] is [2 on 1] and the default setting for [Print Style] is 
[2-sided Printing]. A user can then print four pages on one sheet by simply 
installing the driver set.

* "Driver set" is a driver installation file format.

Features of The Driver Configuration Tool
=========================================
This utility includes the following features.

* Configuration can be performed simply and easily.

  You can configure drivers without installing base drivers. You can also
  configure drivers using the same screens as the standard drivers.

  * This utility is provided in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions. You cannot
    configure 64-bit drivers on 32-bit operating systems or 32-bit drivers on
    64-bit operating systems.

  * The Canon Driver Configuration Tool is guaranteed only for configuration 
    operations on operating systems that support the relevant driver(s).
    In particular, do not configure Japanese drivers.

Supported Drivers
=================
The Driver Configuration Tool supports configuration of the following Windows
printer drivers.

* You cannot configure drivers for use with Windows 98 or Windows Me with the
  Canon Driver Configuration Tool Version 4.00. To configure such drivers,
  use the Canon Driver Configuration Tool Version 1.20.

* This utility may support driver configuration other than those indicated
  below. Check the Readme file for the driver to find out if your driver can
  be configured.

Canon PCL5e/5c Printer Driver Version 6.70 or later
Canon PCL6 Printer Driver Version 4.70 or later
Canon PS 3 emulation Printer Driver Version 2.60 or later
Canon UFR II Printer Driver Version 1.30 or later
Canon UFRII LT Printer Driver Version 1.30 or later
Canon CAPT Printer Driver
Canon Generic PCL6 Printer Driver Version 1.00 or later

* To confirm whether the Canon CAPT Printer Driver you are using is supported
  by this utility, refer to the Readme file for the driver.

The Driver Configuration Tool is guaranteed to work under the following
system environments.

Operating Systems:

  Microsoft Windows XP
  Microsoft Windows Server 2003
  Microsoft Windows Vista
  Microsoft Windows Server 2008
  Microsoft Windows 7
  Microsoft Windows 8

Computers:

  Any computer that is running either one of the above operating systems.

Memory:

  Sufficient enough to run either one of the above operating systems.

Installing The Driver Configuration Tool
========================================
Install the Driver Configuration Tool in your computer according to the
following procedure.

* This procedure uses Windows Vista/7 as an example. Some terms may
  differ depending on the operating system you are using.

 1. Prepare the 32-bit installer of this utility.

 2. Log on to the computer you are using to run the Canon Driver
    Configuration Tool as an Administrator.

 3. Quit all other applications.

 4. If a prior version is already installed, uninstall it.
    For details about the uninstallation procedure, see "Uninstalling The
    Driver Configuration Tool".

 5. Double-click the [Setup] or [Setup.exe] file on the installation disk.

      The installation program starts.

    * If the [User Account Control] dialog box appears in Windows
      Vista/Server 2008/7/8, click [Continue].

 6. When the [Driver Configuration Tool] dialog box is displayed, 
    click [Next].

 7. Read the software license agreement carefully. If you agree to the terms,
    select [I Agree], and then click [Next].

 8. Specify the folder where you want to install the utility, and click
    [Next].

    If you want to install in a location other than the folder displayed,
    click [Browse] and specify the folder where you want to install the
    utility.

 9. Click [Next].

10. When the screen indicating that installation has finished is displayed,
    click [Close].

User's Guide (PDF):
Provides an overview of the various functions, the installation procedure,
and operating procedures for the Driver Configuration Tool. This guide is
located in the [Manual] folder on the installation disk.

  * To view the manual in PDF format, Adobe Reader/Adobe Acrobat Reader is
    required. If Adobe Reader/Adobe Acrobat Reader is not installed on your
    system, please download it from the Adobe Systems Incorporated website.

Online Help:
To display the online Help from the main window, select [Help] in the [Help]
menu.
To display the online Help from a window other than the main window, click
the [Help] button at the lower right corner of the window.

Uninstalling The Driver Configuration Tool
==========================================
If the Driver Configuration Tool is no longer needed, uninstall it by
following the procedure below.

* This procedure uses Windows Vista/7 as an example. Some terms may
  differ depending on the operating system you are using.

 1. Log on to Windows as an Administrator.

 2. From the [Start] menu, select [Control Panel].

    * If you are using Windows 8, from the desktop, display the charm 
      bar to the right of the screen, and click or tap [Settings] -> 
      [Control Panel].

 3. Click [Uninstall a program].

 4. Select [Driver Configuration Tool] from the program list, and click
    [Uninstall].

 5. Click [Yes].

      The Driver Configuration Tool is uninstalled.

    * If the [User Account Control] dialog box appears in Windows
      Vista/Server 2008/7/8, click [Continue].

Cautions, Limitations and Restrictions
======================================
When installing a configured driver, if a message that the driver has not
passed the Windows Logo test or the driver set does not contain a signature
is displayed, continue the installation. (Although the above alert is not
displayed during installation for printer drivers manufactured by Canon,
because they contain the above logo and digital signature, configured drivers
differ from standard drivers and are not certified, resulting in the above
alert being displayed.)

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
