1. File Description
-------------------

   A. README.TXT    This readme file about the NX1101 Solaris 8 network driver 
                    installation.
   B. ipg           NX1101-based 32-bit Solaris 8 Driver package.
   C. addipg        shell script to add NX1101 Solaris driver "ipg".

2. Specification of the driver

   A. File name of the driver: /kernel/drv/ipg
   B. Special file name: /dev/ipgN 
      (where N is an unit number, typcally 0 for first card)
      For example: % ifconfig ipg0
   C. Driver for Solaris 8 x86 version.

3. Driver Installation for Solaris 8
   A. Setting the Driver
      # rem_drv ipg         ( Remove the old driver if needed)
      # rm /kernel/drv/ipg  ( for solaris7, don't remove the file)
      # rm /dev/ipgN        ( N=0,1,2,3 etc.)
      # cp addipg /tmp
      # cp ipg /tmp
      # cd /tmp
      # chmod 755 ./addipg  ( Make "addipg" executable)
      # ./addipg            ( Execute this shell script)
      Now, device is ready for configure IP and enable router.   
   
   B. Solaris router enable.
      Edit the following step as a script file. (e.g. "setconfig")
      # ifconfig ipg0 plumb                         (interface1 ipg0      )
      # ifconfig ipg1 plumb                         (interface2 ipg1      )
      # ifconfig ipg0 190.0.0.1                     (ipg0 IPaddress       )
      # ifconfig ipg1 191.0.0.1                     (ipg1 IPaddress       )
      # ifconfig ipg0 up                            (ipg0 interface up    )
      # ifconfig ipg1 up                            (ipg0 interface up    )
      # /usr/sbin/ndd -set /dev/ip ip_forwarding 1  (Enable Routing       )
      ipg0 and ipg1 is only an example on this configuration, see "/dev/ipg?"
      Now, the router is turn on.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
