Printer driver setup --------------------- 3.1 Before setting up --------------------- - Prepare the following for setup: 1) WindowsXP operating system (CD-ROM) 2) Printer Driver Disk (this disk) - When setting up, log on with an Administrator account. - Before setting up, go to System Properties, select <ignore> or <warn> for the "file signature verification" at the driver signature options. - If the TallyGenicom LA48W/LA48N printer driver has already been set up, delete it and set up again. - This guide includes procedures on installing printer drivers on locally connected PC's. For installation methods on network connection and shared printers, refer to the WindowsXP user's manual or "help". - For users who use TallyGenicom LA48W. Please change the name of "LA48W" to "LA48N". ----------------- 3.2 for WindowsXP ----------------- 3.2.1 Setup method using add-printer wizard (without using Plug & Play) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 3.2.1.1 for WindowsXP Professional ==================================== Start Add Printer Wizard. The following is the setup procedure after WindowsXP Professional is started up. a. Go to "Start" -> "Control Panel" -> "Printers and Other Hardware". b. Select "Add Printer". c. When "Add Printer Wizard" appears, select "next". d. When "Local or Network Printer" in "Add Printer Wizard" appears, select "Local printer attached to this computer", un-check "Automatically detect and install my Plug & Play printer", and select "next". e. Specify the connecting port for the printer, and select "next". f. Click the "Have Disk..." button. g. Insert this disk into the CD drive (if D: is the CD drive), change the path from "A:\" to "D:\Drivers\LA48NW\English\Winxp", and press "OK". NOTE: The CD drive above is assumed to be D:, make changes if necessary. h. The model names will be shown in the list box. Choose the model used and press "next". NOTE: When the message "Do you want to keep the existing driver or use the new one?" Appears, select "Replace existing driver". i. Enter the printer model name , and specify whether the printer will be used as the default printer, and select "next". j. Specify if the printer will be shared, and select "next". k. After installation is completed, print test page if desired, and select "next". l. To end the wizard, click the "Finish" button. m. When the screen "Hardware Installation" appears, select "Continue Anyway". NOTE: As in 3.1, this is the case when the "Driver Signing" is set to "Warn". n. The files are copied and the installation for the driver is now completed. In [k.], when "Print Test Page" is selected, a dialogue box to inform the printing complete will appear when printing is completed. click the "Yes" or "Troubleshoot..." button. Note with Test Page: - Printing will proceed based on the printer driver settings at the time. - The default values of the page-feeding method is "automatically select" with paper size set and "Letter", therefore please prepare Letter paper for the test page. - Change the setting when using a different size of paper for the test page. Printer driver setup is now complete. 3.2.1.2 for WindowsXP Home Edition ==================================== Start Add-printer Wizard. The following is the setup procedure after WindowsXP Home Edition is started. a. Go to "Start" -> "Control Panel" -> "Printer and other hardware". b. Select "Add Printer" from the "Printer and other hardware" screen. c. When the "Add Printer Wizard" screen appears, select "next". d. When "Local or Network Printer" in "Add Printer Wizard" appears, select "Local printer attached to this computer", un-check "Automatically detect and install my Plug & Play printer", and select "next". e. For the rest of the procedure, please refer to procedure [e.] and thereafter in "3.2.1.1 for WindowsXP Professional". f. After installation, an icon of the added printer will appear in the "Printers and Faxes" folder. Printer driver setup is now complete. 3.2.2 Setup method using add-printer wizard (using Plug & Play) --------------------------------------------------------------- 3.2.2.1 for WindowsXP Professional ==================================== Start Add Printer Wizard. The following is the setup procedure after WindowsXP Professional is started up. Note: Turn on the printer. a. Go to "Start" -> "Control Panel" -> "Printer and other hardware". b. Select "Add Printer". c. When "Add Printer Wizard" appears, select "next". d. When "Local or Network Printer" in "Add Printer Wizard" appears, select "Local printer attached to this computer", check "Automatically detect and install my Plug & Play printer", and select "next". e. "Found New Hardware Wizard" will appear on the screen. Insert the printer driver disk, select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)", and select "next". f. When "Please choose your search and installation options" appears, select "Search for the best driver in these locations.", un-check "Search removable media (floppy,CD-ROM...)", and only check "Include this location in the search". Enter "D:\Drivers\LA48NW\English\Winxp" and select "next". NOTE: The CD drive above is assumed to be D:, make changes if necessary. g. File copy start. m. When the screen "Hardware Installation" appears, select "Continue Anyway". NOTE: As in 3.1, this is the case when the "Driver Signing" is set to "Warn". i. When "Completing the Found New Hardware Wizard" appears, make sure the message "The wizard has installing the software for : TallyGenicom LA48W" appears, and select "Finish". j. When "New Printer Detection" appears on the screen, Make sure the message "Do you want to print a test page?" appears. Select "Yes" or "No", and select "next". k. When "Add Printer Wizard" appears on the screen, make sure the message "Completing the Add Printer Wizard" appears. Select "Finish". l. The files are copied and the installation for the driver is now completed. In [j.], when "Print Test Page" is selected, a dialogue box to inform the printing complete will appear when printing is completed. click the "Yes" or "Troubleshoot..." button. Select "Add Printer" from the "Printer and other hardware" screen. c. When the "Add Printer Wizard" screen appears, select "next". d. When "Local or Network Printer" in "Add Printer Wizard" appears, select "Local printer attached to this computer", check "Automatically detect and install my Plug & Play printer", and select "next". e. For the rest of the procedure, please refer to procedure [e.] and thereafter in "3.2.2.1 for WindowsXP Professional". f. After installation, an icon of the added printer will appear in the "Printers and Faxes" folder. Printer driver setup is now complete. 3.3.3 Using Plug & Play ----------------------- NOTE: Turn off both the PC and the printer. a. Make sure the printer is connected to the PC, and turn on the printer. b. Make sure the printer is on-line, turn on the PC, and start WindowsXP. c. "Welcome to the Found New Hardware Wizard" will appear on the screen. Insert the printer driver disk, select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)", and select "next". d. When "Please choose your search and installation options" appears, select "Search for the best driver in these locations.", un-check "Search removable media (floppy,CD-ROM...)", and only check "Include this location in the search". Enter "D:\Drivers\LA48NW\English\Winxp" and select "next". NOTE: The CD drive above is assumed to be D:, make changes if necessary. e. When the screen "Hardware Installation" appears, select "Continue Anyway". NOTE: As in 3.1, this is the case when the "Driver Signing" is set to "Warn". f. File copy start. g. When "Completing the Found New Hardware Wizard" appears, make sure the message "The wizard has installing the software for : TallyGenicom LA48W" appears, and select "Finish". Printer driver setup is now complete. 4. Uninstalling the printer driver For users who use TallyGenicom LA48W. Please change the name of "LA48W" to "LA48N". ------------------------------ 4.1 for WindowsXP Professional ------------------------------ Printer driver uninstallation is as follows. a. Go to "Start" -> "Control Panel" -> "Printer and other hardware" -> "Printers and Faxes". b. Select "TallyGenicom LA48W" from the "Printers and Faxes" folder, and select "Delete" from the "File" menu. c. When "Are you sure want to delete the printer 'TallyGenicom LA48W'?" appears on the screen, select "yes". NOTE: If the printer driver is not installed, "Warning: The default printer has beeb deleted. There are printers set up on your computer." will appear. Press the "OK" button. If there is no default printer, the message "Warning: The default printer has been deleted. The new printer is 'XXXXXX XXXXXXX' ('XXXXX XXXXXX' being the newly installed printer) will appear on the screen. Press the "OK" button. d. Select "Server Properties" from the "File" menu, click on the "Drivers" tab. e. Select "TallyGenicom LA48W" from the "Installed printer drivers:" list, and select "Remove". f. When "Deleting this driver will remove it from the system. Are you sure you want to delete TallyGenicom LA48W?" appears on the screen, select "Yes". g. After the drive is deleted, click on "Close" and terminate the "Print server properties" dialogue. h. Turn off the printer and restart the computer. Printer driver is now removed. ------------------------------ 4.2 for WindowsXP Home Edition ------------------------------ Printer driver uninstallation is as follows. a. Go to "Start" -> "Control Panel" -> "Printer and other hardware" -> "Printers and Faxes". b. Select "TallyGenicom LA48W" from the "Printers and Faxes" folder, and select "Delete" from the "File" menu. c. For the rest of the procedure, please refer to procedure [c.] and thereafter in "4.1 for WindowsXP Professional". Printer driver is now removed. 5. Printer driver setup method - Document properties such as paper size and others can be set in the "printer properties" menu in the application software. - Depending on the application software used, the paper size settings of the application software may be the default rather than that of the "page setting" tab. - The following is the method for each paper feeding (to set such as paper size assignment): [for WindowsXP Professional/Home Edition] Select "Start" -> "Control Panel" -> "Printer and other hardware" -> "Printers and Faxes" -> "TallyGenicom LA48W", and click on the right button of the mouse, select "properties", specify the "Form to Tray assignment" from the "Device Settings" tab. NOTE: - For users who use TallyGenicom LA48W. Please change the name of "LA48W" to "LA48N". - This method is valid only when the Paper Source setting of the printer driver is set at the "Automatically Select". - Please make sure the actual paper size matches the selected paper size. Use the "Manual Paper Feed" the actual paper size differs from the selected paper size. - Refer read the chapter of software in the user's manual for further details. 6. Others a. The emulation for this driver is in the "EPSON ESC/P2" mode. b. Users are required to adjust devices for such as the paper insertion. Please make sure the paper settings, as well as the settings from the operation panel correspond to the printer. c. Printing from other Windows application software under the WindowsXP environments may give different results. d. The contents of "Properties" of the printer driver and "Printing Preferences" of the printer may overlap. Please make necessary adjustments to avoid any possible malfunction. e. [TallyGenicom LA48W] Paper size from the "Server Properties" can be set to a maximum width of 15 inches. Adjust the right and left margins not the exceed an 13.6 inch paper width as the data may not be properly printed. [TallyGenicom LA48N] Paper size from the "Server Properties" can be set to a maximum width of 10.5 inches. Adjust the right and left margins not the exceed an 8 inch paper width as the data may not be properly printed. f. When printing with a "Page per Sheet" specification from the "layout" tab in the print menu, frame lines may not be printed with some applications. g. [TallyGenicom LA48W] Paper with a length of 3 inches - 14 inches isruled with a width of 15 inches. When using paper with a width less than 15 inches, please make adjustments to the right margin of the application not to exceed the maximum possible range. [TallyGenicom LA48N] Paper with a length of 3 inches - 14 inches isruled with a width of 10 inches. When using paper with a width less than 10 inches, please make adjustments to the right margin of the application not to exceed the maximum possible range. h. When using Continuous form with a tractor feeder on this printer, the possible folding length is 4 inches or more. When the folding length is the same as the page length, use paper with a folding length of more than 4 inches. i. If printing is cancelled from the printer port during printing, restart the printer. Continuing printing without restarting the printer may result in problems such as garbled texts. j. Continuous Form - Both the upper and lower margins for continuous form are set at 0mm in this printer driver. It is recommended that the upper and lower margins for continuous form using Tractor feeder with this printer is more than 25.4mm - The printing head and the ribbon may be damaged when printing on the perforation lines and sprocket holes. k. Envelopes - Print only on the surface side. [TallyGenicom LA48N] Adjust the paper guide when printing on B4(JIS) and B5(JIS) paper. (The left printing margin is set at 13.4mm) n. The TallyGenicom LA48W or TallyGenicom LA48N printer driver to every connecting port will be set if the connecting USB port is changed. (e.g. TallyGenicom LA48W (copy 2) etc.) Since every setting of the printer driver is the initial value, so change the setting according to the using state. o. Note for sharing printer into Network environment -Printer shared by Network environment may not be able to be used with Windows XP SP2 because of Windows Firewall. In this case, change the exceptional settings of Windows Firewall with following procedure. 1.Select "Start"->"Control Panel"->"Security Center". 2.Select "Windows Firewall". 3.When the dialogo box of "Windows Firewall", select "Exceptions". 4.Check "File and Printer Sharing", and click "OK". **In case that the printer installed into Windows XP SP2 is set with Network sharing setting, automatically checked to "File and printer share". p. The TallyGenicom LA48W/LA48N printers' serial ports only support baud rates of 600, 1200, 2400, 4800, 9600 or 19200. Other baud rates should not be selected in the driver when using the serial port. q. Changing the paper feed port or paper size with the page setting or document setting in the application. The margin size outside the print enabled area can be set even when the printer driver specified value is not correctly reflected. To prevent this, first set the paper feed port and paper size you intend to use with printer properties in the printer folder. Then change the paper feed port and paper size in the application, or avoid setting the margin size outside the print enabled area.
