			Presto! VideoWorks 6 Information
		  ==========================================

Thank you for using our multimedia editing software, Presto! VideoWorks. Although 
we have tried to include all the useful information in our user's manual, there were 
some updates after the manual was published that you should know about. 

This readme file contains the latest information about using the software.


I. Installation

1. Presto! VideoWorks 6 requires DirectX 8.x run time and Windows Media Format 
   7.x run time. You must install DirectX 8.x and Windows Media Format 7.x before 
   you start Presto! VideoWorks 6.

2. VideoWorks 6 can read QuickTime files if you have installed the QuickTime 4.x or 
   later runtime program. If you need to install the program, you can find the QuickTime 
   folder on the CD, or you can go to the QuickTime website to download the program. 
   When installing QuickTime, please choose the "Recommended" or "Full" option to ensure 
   that VideoWorks can read the QuickTime files.

3. Presto! VideoWorks 6 supports the exporting of RealMedia files, but not play them. 
   To play RealMedia files, you need to install the RealPlayer program. You can go to 
   the RealPlayer website to download the program.

II. DMA option
   Enabling the DMA option will improve performance for playing video clips and for 
   capturing or writing back DV video. For Windows 2000 or Windows XP, the DMA option 
   is enabled by default. For Windows 98 or Windows Me, please do the following:

a.  Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
b.  Double-click the System icon.
c.  Select the Device Manager tab and double-click Disk Drives to expand the entry.
d.  Double click on your IDE Disk Drive to display the Properties dialog box.
e.  Click the Settings tab, and then select the DMA check box.
f.  Click OK to exit each dialog box.
g.  Restart your computer to enable the changes.

III. Directly Capture Video as MPEG-1 or MPEG-2
Now you can capture video from DV and save it directly into VCD-compliant MPEG-1 format or DVD and SVCD-compliant MPEG-2 format.

IV. Aspect Ratio 16:9
VideoWorks 6 can support the 16:9 aspect ratio in the following instances.
1. Capture video to DVD format
2. Produce video to DVD format 
3. Playback in viewer

V. Others
1. Before installing a driver for a device or for a plug, please close VideoWorks. 
   After complete the installation, re-start VideoWorks so newly installed driver can be identified

2. In case you encounter a problem for batch capture,  restart your DV and try again.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
