*************************** VORTEX PLAYER README ****************************

This document provides guidelines and describes some of the limitations and behaviors you may encounter when using the Vortex Player.

DISPLAY SETTINGS
If you are running Windows in 256-color mode, the Vortex Player may not display properly. Changing the Windows display setting to High color or True color will correct this problem.

To determine or change the display settings:

- Click the Start Menu, choose Settings, and open the Control Panel
- Double-click the Display control panel to open it
- Choose the Settings tab from the Display Properties window
- Your display settings appear and can be changed through the Colors drop-down menu

USING THE PLAYER WITH A MODEM
Depending on your Internet connection settings, the player will exhibit different behaviors.

To determine your Internet connection settings:

- Open the Internet Options window - either from the Control Panel or from Internet Explorer by selecting Tools then Internet Options
- Choose the Connections tab
- Your connection type appears under Dial-up settings

Resulting behavior of Vortex Player, according to the different Internet connection settings:

- Never dial a connection - the Vortex Player behaves as if there is no connection to the Internet at any time. You will not be able to use the Internet functionality - such as online-upgrade, Internet radio, automatic CD title and track information.
- Dial whenever a network connection is not present - when the Vortex Player tries to connect to the Internet (this includes when the player is started) you will see a message box prompting you to make a connection. If you press Cancel the player will behave as though not connected (i.e. the same scenario as above) and you will not be prompted again.
- Always dial my default connection - the Vortex Player will connect to the Internet whenever needed and no prompt will appear.

USING THE PLAYER OFFLINE
This section covers scenarios where connection to the Internet is not possible.

If you have no modem or network card, Internet functionality will not be available.
If you have a network card but it is not connected to the Internet or your LAN is not connected to the Internet, it may take some time (typically less than one minute) for the Vortex Player to realize that no connection exists. During this time any activity by the player that requires an Internet connection may result in unpredictable behavior.

MISCELLANEOUS
The Vortex Player may exhibit unpredictable behavior if you delete, rename, move, or otherwise change any of the files in the installation directory (typically c:/Program Files/Aureal/Vortex Player).
