Overview



This document describes the steps necessary to install the Windows XP Realtek ALC250 2-channel AC’97 audio drivers for the Gateway computer models listed in the Applicable Part Numbers section below.





Identification



If you have a Gateway computer listed in the Applicable Part Numbers section and are running Windows XP, install these drivers.





Installation



1.  From the Start menu, click Run.



2.  In the Run dialog box, type: C:\Cabs\9528931\Setup.exe.  Click OK.



3.  In the Welcome dialog box, click Next.



4.  In the Completed dialog box, click Finish.





Removal



1.  From the Start menu, click Control Panel. 



2.  In Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance.



3.  In Performance and Maintenance, click System.



4.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.



5.  In Device Manager, double-click Sound, video and game controllers.



6.  Under Sound, video and game controllers, double-click Realtek AC'97 Audio.



7.  Click the Driver tab, and then click Uninstall.



8.  Click OK to continue.  The removal proceeds automatically.





Troubleshooting



If you are having difficulty during or after the driver installation, follow the removal procedure, and then re-install the drivers.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
