1. Introduction:

   These Ethernet drivers for Windows for Workgroups 3.11 conform to 3Com/
   Microsoft Network Driver Interface Specification v3.0. It supports Micro-
   soft Windows for Workgroups v3.11 enviroment.


2. Contents of the Subdirectory:

      RETH.DOS        The NDIS2 driver v2.03.

      RETH.386        The NDIS2 driver v3.02.

      OEMSETUP.INF    A setup-information file for installing the Ethernet
                      NDIS driver under Windows for Workgroups 3.11.


3. Installation

 * Take the following steps at the first time you set up Windows for Work-
   groups on your hard disk:

   1) Select 'Network Setup' from Network group in Windows Program Manager.

   2) When the "Network Setup" window appears, select 'Drivers...' button.

   3) When the 'Network Drivers' windows shows, choose 'Add Adapter...' but-
      ton.

   4) When the 'Add Network Adapter' window is displayed, select 'Unlisted
      or Updated Network Adapter'.

   5) When the 'Install Driver' window appears, insert the Distribution Disk-
      ette into drive A:, and then enter 'A:\WFW311' and select 'OK'.

   7) When the 'Unlisted or Updated Network Adapter' window is displayed,
      choose "E2k/E1k/PCMCIA Ethernet".

   8) After Windows for Workgroups has finished reading the driver, the
      'E2k/E1k/PCMCIA Ethernet' window will be re-displayed.

   9) In the 'Network Drivers' window, select the 'Close' button.

  10) After returning to the 'Network Setup' window , select 'Continue'.


 * If the Windows for Workgroups has been installed and you want to change
   the network adapter to E2k/E1k/PCMCIA Ethernet Adapter, follow the pro-
   cedure described below.

   1) Select 'Network Setup' from Network group in Windows Program Manager.

   2) In 'Network Setup' window, select 'Drivers...'.

   3) In 'Network Drivers' window, select 'Add Adapter...' button.

   4) In the 'Add Network Adapter' window, select 'Adapters'.

   5) In the 'Network Adapters' window, select the 'Remove' button to cancel
      the previous settings.

   6) Select the 'Add' button.  When the 'Add Network Adapter' window is dis-
      played, choose 'Unlisted or Updated Network Adapter'.

   7) When the 'Install Driver' window appears, insert the Distribution Disk-
      ette into drive A:, and then enter 'A:\WFW311' and select 'OK'.

   8) When the 'Unlisted Or Updated Network Adapter' window is re-displayed,
      choose 'E2k/E1k/PCMCIA Ethernet'.

   9) After Windows for Workgroups has read the E2k/E1k/PCMCIA Ethernet driver
      completely, the 'E2k/E1k/PCMCIA Ethernet' window will be re-displayed.

  10) In the 'Network Adapters' window, select the 'Close' button.

  11) After returning to the 'Network Setup' window, select 'OK'.


3.2 Installing Windows for Workgroups 3.11 Drivers with NetWare Workstations

   1) Install WFW 3.11 and WFW 3.11 drivers (i.e., RETH.DOS and RETH.386
      under the directory \WFW311 of the distributed diskette), following
      the procedure described above.

   2) Start Windows for Workgroups 3.11.

   3) Locate Novell Workstation for DOS/Windows diskette to install a net-
      work client driver for Windows (i.e., \NETWARE\DOSODI\RETH.COM). The
      "Network Tools" group will be displayed on the desktop, and the dir-
      ectory \NWCLIENT and STARTNET.BAT will be created on your hard disk.

   4) Enter Network Setup window by double-clicking the icon in the "Network
      Setup" group, and select the "Network Setup" button to add an appro-
      priate Novell NetWare workstation shell.  Then you will see "Microsoft
      Windows Network [version 3.11]" and "Novell NetWare [workstation shell
      station shell x.x]" in the Network Setup window.

   5) Exit Window for Workgroups 3.11. Then use any text editor to add
      "LASTDRIVE=Z" to CONFIG.SYS and "CALL STARTNET.BAT" to AUTOEXEC.BAT.
      (You can locate STARTNET.BAT in \NWCLIENT.)

   6) Reboot your PC.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
