Overview



This document describes the steps necessary to upgrade to BIOS version 61GW112GS for the ECS-MCP61PM-AM motherboard.





Identification



This BIOS can be installed on a ECS-MCP61PM-AM motherboard.





Installation



The BIOS should be flashed if:



1.  You are updating to a newer BIOS revision.



2.  A technician has told you to flash or re-flash the computer.





Steps to flash or re-flash the computer using a CD burner drive:



1.  Use CDRW burning software to Burn Disc Image of the C:\Cabs\9538548\9538548.iso file to a blank CD.



2.  After creating the bootable CD, place the CD in the CD/DVD drive, and then restart the computer.



3.  At the Menu, select 1 for Gateway BIOS 9538548.  The BIOS flash process runs automatically.  Do not press any keys or turn off the computer during this process.



4.  When complete the message "Flashing Complete" would be flashing, remove boot media used and hit <F1>.



5.  Press the F2 key to enter the CMOS Setup Utility.



6.  In the CMOS Setup Utility, select Load Optimized Defaults, and then press the ENTER key.



7.  Press the Y key, and then press ENTER to select Load Optimized Defaults.



8.  In the CMOS Setup Utility, select Save & Exit Setup, and then press ENTER.



9.  Press Y, and then press ENTER to Save to CMOS and EXIT.





Steps to flash or re-flash the computer using a floppy disk drive or bootable USB flash drive:



1.  Copy all of the BIOS files except 9538548.iso from the C:\Cabs\9538548 folder to a blank floppy disk or a USB flash drive. 



2.  Restart the computer with the floppy disk inserted/USB flash drive plugged in.



3.  At the Menu, select 1 for Gateway BIOS 9538548.  The BIOS flash process runs automatically.  Do not press any keys or turn off the computer during this process.



4.  When the flash is complete, the computer automatically restarts.  



5.  Press the F2 key to enter the CMOS Setup Utility.



6.  In the CMOS Setup Utility, select Load Optimized Defaults, and then press the ENTER key.



7.  Press the Y key, and then press ENTER to select Load Optimized Defaults.



8.  In the CMOS Setup Utility, select Save & Exit Setup, and then press ENTER.



9.  Press Y, and then press ENTER to Save to CMOS and EXIT.





Removal



Because a computer must have a BIOS to operate, there is no removal process.  The BIOS cannot be removed after it has been upgraded.





Troubleshooting



If you have trouble flashing the BIOS, try the process again following the steps listed in the Installation section of this document.  If you are still unable to flash the BIOS, verify that you are actually attempting to flash the BIOS on an ECS uBTX motherboard.  If this process still fails, contact technical support.



There may be an error indicating a CMOS Checksum error.  At the Gateway Splash screen, press the F2 key to enter the BIOS Setup Utility.  Press the ENTER key to select Load Optimized Defaults and Save and Exit Setup.  The computer restarts. 



Reason for Update:



- Modify PCB Version to 1.0A of DMI information

- Modify audio SSID to "2601h"

- Update AGESA 2.08.05

- Modify verb table to fix DTM UAA test fail

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
