Installation

Prepare your computer

Before updating your computer's BIOS, enter the current BIOS Setup Utility, and then write down each of the current settings in the event that this information is needed again after the upgrade.

Note: The following instructions may vary, depending on the operating system loaded on the computer.

Performing the update

1. After you have downloaded and double-click the BIOS update file (9536080.exe), the files self-extract and copy into the C:\Cabs\9536080 directory on the hard drive.

2. From the Start menu, click Run.

3. In the Run dialog box, type: C:\Cabs\9536080\9536080.exe. Click OK.

4. When the WinFlash BIOS Utility program runs, it automatically reprograms the BIOS, and then restarts the computer when complete.

Note: Do not turn off the computer. Your system will perform an automatic shutdown and reboot process. Powering down before completion of this reboot process may cause your system to require service by the system manufacturer.

5. Wait for the process to complete the restart sequence.

6. When the computer restarts, it may appear to take a longer period of time to restart Windows. This is considered normal and is part of the BIOS update process.

7. On the first startup after the BIOS update has completed, it is possible to receive a Checksum error message. Press the F2 key to enter the CMOS Setup Utility.

8. In the CMOS Setup Utility, select Load Optimized Defaults, and then press the ENTER key.

9. Press the Y key, and then press ENTER to select Load Optimized Defaults.

10. In the CMOS Setup Utility, select Save & Exit Setup, and then press ENTER.

11. Press Y, and then press ENTER to Save to CMOS and EXIT.

Steps to flash or re-flash the computer using a floppy disk drive or USB flash drive:

1. Copy all of the BIOS files from the C:\Cabs\9536080\DOS folder to a blank floppy disk or a USB flash drive.

2. Restart the computer with the floppy disk inserted/USB flash drive plugged in.

3. At the Menu, select 1 for Gateway BIOS NAG12GWA. The BIOS flash process runs automatically. Do not press any keys or turn off the computer during this process.

4. When the flash is complete, the computer automatically restarts.

5. On the first boot after the BIOS update has completed, it is possible to receive a Checksum error message. Press the F2 key to enter the CMOS Setup Utility.

6. In the CMOS Setup Utility, select Load Optimized Defaults, and then press the ENTER key.

7. Press the Y key, and then press ENTER to select Load Optimized Defaults.

8. In the CMOS Setup Utility, select Save & Exit Setup, and then press ENTER.

9. Press Y, and then press ENTER to Save to CMOS and EXIT.

Removal

A motherboard must have a BIOS to operate, therefore there is no removal procedure.
