Overview



This document describes the steps necessary to upgrade to BIOS version 76.19 for Windows XP and Vista and the Gateway computer models listed below.





Installation



The BIOS should be flashed if:



1.  You are updating to a newer BIOS revision.



2.  A technician has told you to flash or re-flash the computer.



3.  You are upgrading to Windows Vista.



Note: Please verify the CD burner software that you have on your computer before using the bootable CD options below.



Note: you may use a bootable USB flash drive if you have one available





(Nero Express) Steps to flash or re-flash the computer using a CD burner drive:



1.  Place a blank CD in the optical drive.  If a pop up window appears, close it.



2.  Open the Nero Express burning software.



3.  Choose Disk Image or Saved Project.



4.  In the Files of Type dropdown, select All files (*.*)



5.  Locate the Image File.  The path to the file is: C:\Cabs\BIOS-7619\BIOS-7619.ISO



6.  Click Next.



7.  After the CD has been created, restart the computer with the BIOS CD in the optical drive.



8.  Boot to the optical drive.



9.  Choose Option 1 to flash the BIOS.



10.  The BIOS flashes and the computer shuts down.



11.  Turn on the computer and then press the F2 key to enter the BIOS Setup Utility.



12.  In the BIOS Setup Utility, select Load Optimized Defaults, and then press the ENTER key.



13.  Press the Y key, and then press ENTER to select Load Optimized Defaults.



14.  In the BIOS Setup Utility, select Save & Exit Setup, and then press ENTER.



15.  Press Y, and then press ENTER to Save to BIOS and EXIT.





(Power2Go) Steps to flash or re-flash the computer using a CD burner drive:



1.  Place a blank CD in the optical drive.  If a pop up window appears, close it.



2.  Open the Power2Go software.



3.  Select Disk Utilities, and then click Burn Disk Image.



4.  Click OK.



5.  Click Browse, and then navigate to where the image file is stored.  The path to the file is: C:\Cabs\BIOS-7619\BIOS-7619.ISO



6.  Click OK, and then click Burn.



7.  After the CD has been created, restart the computer with the BIOS CD in the optical drive.



8.  Boot to the optical drive.



9.  Choose Option 1 to flash the BIOS.



10.  The BIOS flashes and the computer shuts down.



11.  Turn on the computer and then press the F2 key to enter the BIOS Setup Utility.



12.  In the BIOS Setup Utility, select Load Optimized Defaults, and then press the ENTER key.



13.  Press the Y key, and then press ENTER to select Load Optimized Defaults.



14.  In the BIOS Setup Utility, select Save & Exit Setup, and then press ENTER.



15.  Press Y, and then press ENTER to Save to BIOS and EXIT.





Steps to flash or re-flash the computer using a floppy disk drive or bootable USB flash drive:



1.  Copy all of the BIOS files except BIOS-7619.iso from the C:\Cabs\BIOS-7619 folder to a USB flash drive. 



2.  Restart the computer with the USB flash drive plugged in.



3.  Enter the Boot Menu and boot to the USB flash drive.



4.  Change the directory to where you saved the BIOS files to on your USB flash drive.  



5.  Type: Autoexec.bat, and then press ENTER.



6.  After the BIOS flashes, turn on the computer and enter the BIOS Setup Utility.



7.  In the BIOS Setup Utility, select Load Optimized Defaults, and then press the ENTER key.



8.  Press the Y key, and then press ENTER to select Load Optimized Defaults.



9.  In the BIOS Setup Utility, select Save & Exit Setup, and then press ENTER.



10.  Press Y, and then press ENTER to Save to BIOS and EXIT.





Removal



Because a computer must have a BIOS to operate, there is no removal process.  The BIOS cannot be removed after it has been upgraded.





Troubleshooting



If you have trouble flashing the BIOS, try the process again following the steps listed in the Installation section of this document.  If you are still unable to flash the BIOS, verify that you are actually attempting to flash the BIOS on a model listed below.  If this process still fails, contact technical support.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
