Overview

This is the BIOS for the MSI NVIDIA MCP73PV motherboard. All previous updates are superseded by this update.

Identification

To confirm that this is the correct BIOS update for your motherboard, perform the following steps.

1. From the Start menu, click Run.

2. In the Run dialog box, type: msinfo32. Click OK.

3. In System Information, in the right hand window, look for the BIOS Version/Date line. The version needs to list A7399NG2.xxx. (where x is variable characters). The BIOS prefix 7B3P is constant and specifically identifies the correct motherboard.

4. If the prefix is A7399NG2, this is the correct BIOS update for your motherboard.

Installation

Prepare your computer

Before updating your computer's BIOS, Enter the current BIOS Setup Utility, and then write down each of the current settings in the event that this information is needed again after the update.

Note: The following instructions may vary depending on the operating system loaded on the computer.

Performing the update

1. After you have downloaded and double-clicked the BIOS update file (9539752.exe), the files self-extract and copy into the C:\Cabs\9539752 directory on the hard drive.

2. From the Start menu, click Run.

3. In the Run dialog box, type: C:\Cabs\9539752\. Click OK.

4. In the C:\Cabs\9539752\ window, right click on AFUWIN.EXE and select Run as Administrator.

5. If prompted with the User Account Control dialog box, click Allow.

6. In the C:\Cabs\9539752\AFUWIN.EXE dialog box, click OK.

7. In the AFUWIN dialog box, click Open.

8. In the Open dialog box, select A7399NG2.108 in the C:\Cabs\9539752\ folder and then click Open.

9. In the AFUWIN dialog box, verify Main BIOS Image, Boot Block, Restart After Programming, and Destroy CMOS Checksum are selected and then click Flash.

10. The BIOS is updated. Please wait for the process to complete.

11. When the update finishes verifying and it states Stage Done, click Exit.

12. Reboot the computer.

13. On the first boot after the BIOS update has completed, it is possible to receive a Checksum error message. This is caused by some BIOS parameters not being set at the default values. Enter the BIOS Setup Utility, reset BIOS options to optimal defaults (press F9), and then save and exit (press F10) the BIOS Setup Utility.

Removal

Because a computer must have a BIOS to operate, there is no removal process. The BIOS cannot be removed after it has been upgraded.

Troubleshooting

If you have trouble flashing the BIOS, try the process again following the steps listed in the Installation section of this document. If you are still unable to flash the BIOS, verify that you are actually attempting to flash the BIOS on a model listed below. If this process still fails, contact technical support.
