Overview



This document describes the steps necessary to install NVIDIA GeForce driver version 7.7.7.4 in Windows XP. 





Identification



This driver is for the video card identified in Device Manager as indicated:  NVIDIA GeForce 6600





Installation



Download the file to the desktop, and then perform the following steps. 



1.  On the desktop, double-click the Nvidia6600.exe file.



2.  The Win-Zip Self-Extractor window opens, and the files are extracted to the C:\Cabs\Nvidia6600 folder on your hard drive.



3.  Close all open programs.



4.  From the Start menu, click Control Panel. 



5.  In Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance.



6.  In Performance and Maintenance, click the System icon. 



7.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.



8.  In Device Manager, click Other Devices, and then double-click the listed Video Controller (VGA Compatible) device.



9.  In the Video Controller (VGA Compatible) Properties dialog box, click the Driver tab, and then click Update Driver.



10.  If the Hardware Update wizard prompts "Can Windows connect to Windows Update to search for software?", select No, not this time, and then click Next.



11.  In the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, select Install from a list or Specific Location (Advanced), and then click Next.



12.  In the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, select Don't search I will choose the driver to install, and then click Next.



13.  In the Hardware Type dialog box, select Display Adapters, and then click Next.



14.  In the next dialog box, click Have Disk.



15.  In the Install From Disk dialog box, type: C:\Cabs\Nvidia6600.  Click OK.



16.  In the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, select the appropriate NVIDIA driver for your computer.  Refer to the Identification section for specific designations.  Click Next.



17.  Files copy.



18.  In the Hardware Update Wizard dialog box, click Finish.



19.  In the next dialog box, click Close.



20.  Restart the computer.





Removal



1.  From the Start menu, click Control Panel.



2.  In Control Panel, double-click the Add or Remove Programs icon.



3.  In the Add or Remove Programs window, select NVIDIA Drivers, and then click Change/Remove.



4.  In the NVIDIA Uninstall dialog box, click Yes.



5.  When prompted to restart the computer, click OK.





Troubleshooting



If you have difficulty during or after the driver installation, perform the following troubleshooting steps. 



1.  Verify that all cables are securely connected.  



2.  Follow the removal procedure in this document, and then reinstall the driver using the installation instructions in this document.





Reason for Update



This is the initial release of the driver.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
