1) Xircom CE3B 10/100 Characteristics
   ==================================
   This release of the Xircom CE3B 10/100 supports the following 
   features:

   -10/100Base-T network support

   -Full suite of Windows CE drivers

   -Software for the Xircom CE3B 10/100


2) Installation Instructions
   =========================

   To determine what processor and version of Windows CE your
   machine has, follow the steps listed below:

     1.  Open the Control Panel by clicking on Start, Settings,
         Control Panel.
     2.  Double click the System Icon.
     3.  If your machine has Windows CE 2.0, you will see Computer
         and System Information on the first tab.  If you do not
         see this information on the first tab, go to step 4.
         Look in the box labeled Computer.  Note the Microsoft
         Windows CE Version; it should say 2.0.  Look in the box   
         labeled System.  Note the Processor Type: i.e., MIPS
         R4000 or Hitachi SH3.  Write this information down.
     4.  If your machine has Windows CE 2.11, you will see the
         Memory tab selected first.  Click on the Device Tab.
         Note the Processor Type; i.e., MIPS R4000 or Hitachi
         SH3.  Click on the System Tab next.  Look for the
         Core System Version; it should say 2.11.  Write this   
         information down.

  Use the matrix below to decide which .cab file you should use to
  install on your system.

  Please perform the following steps to install your Xircom
  product:
     1.  Connect the H/PC to your desktop or Laptop PC via Serial
	 Link.
     2.  Once devices are connected and synchronization is
	 completed, browse the H/PC.  Double click on My Handheld
	 PC.  Locate and double click the folder named Temp.
     3.  Open a new Explorer window on the PC.
     4.  Browse to the location of the CAB files.
     5.  Select the CAB file that is correct for your machine.
     6.  Copy this CAB file to your H/PC into the Temp folder.
     7.  Double click on the CAB file in the Temp Folder.
     8.  When the Dialog Box pops up asking if it's OK to install
	 to the Windows folder, click the OK button in the
	 upper-right corner of the box.
     9.  Click OK when complete.
     10. Insert the CE3B Adapter and input your network settings
	 when prompted.
     11. Disconnect the Serial Link.
     12. Perform a soft reset on your machine.
     13. The CE3B should now be installed and ready for use.

3) Release Notes
   =============

   This release contains Windows CE drivers software for the CE3B 
   and includes support for MIPS R3000, MIPS R4000, Hitachi SH3 
   and SH4, and StrongARM processors.

4) Known Limitations 
   =================

  -Host PC's running Windows 95 OSR2 cannot active sync after
   entering suspend mode.  If the machine goes into suspend, it
   will need to be reset in order to active sync with the
   handheld.
   
  -ActiveSynch v3.0 is recommended for your desktop or laptop
   to install the Xircom CE3B 10/100.

5) Troubleshooting  
   ================

   Symptom: Unable to active sync your handheld to a Windows 95
   OSR2 host machine when running WINS resolution on both the host
   and handheld.

   Resolution: You must check "Use DHCP for WINS Resolution." 
   This is located under network properties control panel-->TCP/IP
   Properties-->WINS Configuration tab.  Be sure the server is
   running WINS as well.

   Symptom: Problems syncing with your CE3B after putting the 
   machine into suspend.

   Resolution: Save and close all programs and perform a soft 
   reset on your device. ActiveSync should function normally.

   Symptom: Error occurs when trying to uninstall CE3B - "The files 
   ARP.DLL, DHCP.DLL and NDIS.DLL are either read only or in use 
   and cannot be deleted."

   Resolution:
   1) Physically remove the CE3B from the slot.
   2) Manually delete the files CE3CE.DLL and XCEPOWER.CPL from
      the \Windows directory.
 
   Symptom:  Unable to browse the Internet.
    
   Resolution:  Check your proxy server settings.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
