Perle 833 Software Update - Release 5.64 Introduction ------------ Perle Systems has made available the latest version of the Perle 833 software on the Web. Existing Perle 833 users may download the software free of charge. Software updates for the 833 are split into 6 files: rasm.exe - Perle Manager Update Kit rasdc.exe - Perle Remote Client (DOS Version) Update Kit raswc.exe - Perle Remote Client (Windows Version) Update Kit rasddo.exe - Perle Dial-Out Client (DOS Version) Update Kit raswdo.exe - Perle Dial-Out Client (Windows Version) Update Kit rasmodem.exe - Perle Modem Update Kit Run the .exe file to extract the files required for installation into the directory containing the .exe file. Run the .bat file to install the software or make installation disks from the downloaded files. Manager Update Kit: ------------------- If you are working on Windows 3.1, run the batch file "brasm.bat", and then choose Run at the File Menu from the Windows Program Manager, and type "PATH\setup.exe", where the PATH is the directory that you downloaded file to. If you are working on Windows 95, just run the batch file "brasm.bat" to start the utility. The utility will guide you through the process of updating Perle Manager or creating the diskettes. The Manager Update Kit will create the following diskettes: Perle Manager Diskette 1 Perle Manager Diskette 2 Perle Manager Diskette 3 You will need three 1.44 Meg 3.5" floppy diskettes. It is recommended that you use new diskettes. Please note that the Manager update software does not contain TCP/IP files that are present on the diskettes shipped with the 833. If TCP/IP is required then the Manager update software must be installed over an existing installation that was done from original Perle diskettes. Remote Client (DOS Version) Update Kit: --------------------------------------- To start the utility, run the batch file "brasdc.bat". The utility will guide you through the process of updating Perle Remote Client or creating the diskettes. The Remote Client (Dos Version) Update Kit will create the following diskette: Perle Remote Client for DOS Diskette 1 You will need one 1.44 Meg 3.5" floppy diskette. It is recommended that you use new diskette. Please note that the Perle Remote Client update software does not contain all the files that are present on the diskettes shipped with the 833. It is recommended that you use new diskettes. Modem Update Kit ---------------- The P833modm.ini is a file used for modem configuration. Please copy the file to your corresponding Perle Manager or Remote Client installation directory. *** Important note to Users of version 4.1 or earlier of server firmware. *** ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Users upgrading their server software from Version 4.1 or earlier must first upgrade to Version 4.2 and then upgrade to the final version (i.e. version 4.3 or higher). The version 4.2 upgrade is available on Perle's Web page. The upgrade instructions are: 1. Download the Manager Software. 2. Download the Version 4.2 firmware file that is appropriate for your server model (i.e. 2 Port Ethernet (2e), 8 Port Token Ring (8t) etc. ). 3. Install the Manager Update Kit following the instructions in this readme file. 4. Copy the Version 4.2 firmware file to the "download" sub-directory located in the Manager's installation directory (default is "C:\PERLE833"). 5. Use the Perle Manager program to connect to the server that needs to be upgraded. 6. Download the Version 4.2 firmware file. 7. After the server has re-booted, re-connect to the server. You will be prompted to download the latest version of the firmware that was installed with the Manager program. *** Important notice for owners of 2 Port units *** --------------------------------------------------- If you purchased your 2 port Ethernet or Token ring unit before Oct 1, 1996, your unit may require a hardware upgrade to use Version 3.4 or later software. Please contact Perle Worldwide Customer Assistance for instructions on how to identify the revision of your unit. If you have an early revision unit, do not attempt to load the newer software. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
