Driver release : 2.0.0
Date : September
2007
O/S Compatibility : Windows 2000 32-bit
Windows XP, 32-bit and 64-bit
Windows Server 2003, 32-bit and 64-bit
Windows Vista, 32-bit and 64-bit
================================================================================
Introduction
------------
The Perle IO8 Driver allows the IO8 family (IO8, IO8+) of serial multiport
adapters to appear as standard "COM" devices on the supported systems.
================================================================================
Driver Installation/Upgrade Procedure
--------------------------------------
The driver package is a zip file. There is a version for each of the following
platforms:
x86 - 32-bit io8-x86.zip
amd64/x64 - 64-bit io8-x64.zip
itanium - 64-bit io8-ia64.zip
Unzip the appropriate file into a directory of your choice (i.e. \temp). This
directory is called the driver installation directory and contains the driver
files which can be used when adding cards using the Windows "Found New Hardware"
wizard.
The directory also contains an install program which can be used instead of
following the Found New Hardware wizard. The following section describes the
installation process using this file.
The install programs have the following names depending on the platform.
x86 - 32-bit io8-setup-x86.exe
amd64/x64 - 64-bit io8-setup-x64.exe
itanium - 64-bit io8-setup-ia64.exe
Install the required IO8 Host cards into the PC and power on. When the PC boots,
the OS will attempt to install drivers for the new hardware. Hit cancel when
each of cards are found.
Now run the driver install program that is appropriate for the PC platform. The
software will create an installation sub-directory in the "Program Files"
directory and then run the UpdateV2 program which will install the driver for
each card that was detected on bootup.
To upgrade drivers for installed devices, install the new driver package.
This will update the files in the installation directory and then update all
installed IO8 type devices with the drivers found in this package.
Note: When new hardware is added Windows will try to find a driver for it. If a
driver is not found for the new device, you are able to give the location of the
driver you wish to use to the Found New Hardware Wizard. However if Windows
does find a driver for the device already on the system, Windows will
automatically install the most recent digitally signed driver it can find for
your new hardware. If you wish to install a different driver (i.e. a more
recent but unsigned driver) from the one installed for your device you will need
to use UPDATE.EXE in the installation directory to update the devices.
