IV. HINTS
******************************************************

------------------------------------------------------------
BI-DIRECTIONAL PARALLEL INTERFACE
------------------------------------------------------------

This TWAIN driver supports the Nibble mode and the ECP mode for the bi-directional parallel interface. As the speed of data transferring with the ECP mode is faster than the Nibble mode, we recommend use of a PC that supports the ECP mode.

------------------------------------------------------------
"CAN NOT WRITE TO LPT1"/"TRANSFERRING DATA ERROR"/"THERE IS NO RESPONSE FROM DEVICE"
------------------------------------------------------------

If you encounter these problems, please try the following.

   1. Scanning and Data Transferring can not be executed during PC printing. In this case, perform them after finishing printing.
   2. If your PC printer port is set to the ECP mode, change to the Nibble mode (only in Windows 95/98/Me).
   3. If you are using a long cable (more than 3m), change to a shorter cable (less than 3m).

------------------------------------------------------------
LIMITATION OF ENLARGEMENT FUNCTION
------------------------------------------------------------

If your machine is Type1 or Type2, the enlargement scan function is not available when you use the ADF.
Also, if your machine is Type2, it is not available when you set the resolution to 600 dpi.
And, if your machine is Type4 or Type5, the enlargement scan function is not available.

------------------------------------------------------------
FOR THE USERS OF WINDOWS NT 4.0
------------------------------------------------------------

1. You cannot use this TWAIN driver with "Imaging" software, which is included in Windows NT 4.0, because it does not support TWAIN.
2. Windows NT 4.0 does not support the ECP mode for the bi-directional parallel interface. Therefore the data will be transferred with the Nibble mode.

------------------------------------------------------------
FOR THE USERS OF WINDOWS 2000
------------------------------------------------------------

Windows 2000 does not support the ECP mode for the bi-directional parallel interface. Therefore the data will be transferred with the Nibble mode.

------------------------------------------------------------
FOR THE USERS OF MICROSOFT OFFICE 2000(WORD/EXCEL/POWERPOINT)
------------------------------------------------------------

When you scan multiple pages, you cannot change the resolution for each page.
When you want to scan the multiple-page documents using the ADF at a time, please note the following:

The Mixed Original setting should be set to OFF(refer to the operating instructions). The scan size will be fixed to the size you set in the Scan size setting regardless of the original document size.
When, for example, you want to scan both letter-sized documents and legal-sized documents and the Scan size is set to "Legal", all data will be received in legal-size. In this case, it takes more time to scan the documents because white lines will be added to the document length in order to make the letter-sized document into a legal-sized document. When Scan size is set to "Letter", you will get all letter-sized scan data. In this case, part of the legal-sized documents will be not scanned.

------------------------------------------------------------
FOR THE USERS OF CAERE OMNIPAGE PRO 10.0
------------------------------------------------------------
In order to use the function of this TWAIN Driver fully or use OmniPage Pro without any trouble, please select the following Scan Manager settings in Windows Control Panel:

1. Select "Flatbed Scanner with ADF" in "Device Type" setting.

2. You must select "Yes" in "Show TWAIN settings before scan" setting.
Otherwise, you cannot set each scan parameter in the RS mode and you cannot retrieve the image in the SB mode.

3. Select "No" in "Invert black and white images" setting.

4. Select "Yes" in "Support TWAIN batch Scanning" setting.
Otherwise, only the first page of the documents set in the ADF will be scanned.

------------------------------------------------------------
FOR THE USERS OF SCANSOFT TEXTBRIDGE PRO MILLENNIUM VER.9.5
------------------------------------------------------------
In order to use the function of this TWAIN Driver fully or use the TextBridge without any trouble, please set Scanner Setup of TextBridge as follows:

1. In Scanner Setup of TextBridge, check the check boxes of "Flatbed Scanner" and "with automatic document feeder (ADF)".

2. In Scanner Setup of TextBridge, check the check box of "Show TWAIN Interface".
Otherwise, only the first page of the documents set in the ADF will be scanned.

3. If you perform the test scan in Scanner Setup of TextBridge, the document must be only one page. Multiple pages cannot be scanned in this case. If you tried to scan multiple pages, the TWAIN Driver cannot be closed. In this case, close TextBridge and the TWAIN Driver using Windows Task Manager.

------------------------------------------------------------
FOR THE USERS OF SCANSOFT PAPERPORT DELUXE 6.5/7.0
------------------------------------------------------------
On the desktop screen of this software, do not click the icon for scanning twice consecutively. Otherwise, the software will freeze.

------------------------------------------------------------
FOR USERS OF I.R.I.S READIRIS PRO 6
------------------------------------------------------------

If you canceled the scanning job on the TWAIN driver screen and try to open the driver again, "No paper in autofeeder" warning message will be appeared. When you encounter it, select "Cancel" and close the message window, and then open the TWAIN driver again.
