This ReadMe file provides specific installation instructions, precautions, restrictions and other information of Doc Pilot (Printer Driver) and Remote Shuttle (Print Monitor) you should know before you install and use them. Installation instructions are provided for the following operating systems:

	* Windows(R) 3.1x

For the detailed information, refer to the online help included in each software component and the printer user's guide.

WHO NEEDS THIS SOFTWARE?

This Printer Driver (Doc Pilot) enable to operate F-320/360 printer function either in local and network connected environment.
For installation, local workstation user needs the installation CD-ROM (Printer Driver/Print Monitor Setup Disc). Network clients can also install it from the network directory, in which the contents of software are copied.

OVERVIEW OF THE SOFTWARE COMPONENTS

This software is compatible with PC/AT compatible machines.
It can be installed in the following operating systems:

	* Windows(R) 98

Software Components

This software is composed with the Printer Driver (Doc Pilot F-320/360 PCL 6/PCL 5e) and the Print Monitor (Remote Shuttle F-320/360).

Printer Driver (Doc Pilot F-320/360 PCL 6/PCL 5e)
-----------------------------------------------------
Printer Driver is a software program that enables your application software to access your printer's features. Generally, you should install a printer driver supporting your printer and its printing language.

This software includes the following printer drivers.

	* PCL 6 Printer Driver
	* PCL 5e Printer Driver

* You are recommended to use the PCL 6 driver to take full advantage of the printer features, unless backward compatibility with previous PCL drivers or older printers is necessary.

* Use the PCL 5e driver if you want to preserve compatibility with older printers.

Refer to the printer driver help files for instructions on using specific printing features.

Print Monitor (Remote Shuttle F-320/360)
--------------------------------------------
This software also includes Print Monitor (Remote Shuttle F-320/360).

Using Print Monitor system, you can recognize the status of the printer via parallel port, such as ready, paper jam and so on, and also can get and set the default value of the printer parameters from your PC easily and in time.

If you are not using bi-directional communication support machine, this function might not work properly.

III. INSTALLATION/UNINSTALLATION INSTRUCTION

In Windows environments, the software will automatically detect the OS version you are using, and select the language you have selected in your Windows Control Panel as default setting. For example, if you are running an English version Windows and have the language preference set to Japanese, the installation utility will set the Japanese version to be default version of the software.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTION
------------------------------------------------------------

The installer provides two installation options.

* Installation from Setup.exe 

  By using Setup.exe file, you can install all or custom selected printer software into your target system. If you use the printer on the local workstation, we recommend you to use this method.

* Installation from Add Printer Wizard(*.inf) in System Printer folder

  By using Add Printer Wizard, you can select and install an objective driver into your system. If you use the printer on the network, we recommend you to use this method.

Microsoft(R) Windows(R) 95/98/Me, Windows NT(R) 4.0, Windows(R) 2000
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Administrator privileges are required to install the software onto a Windows NT(R) 4.0 system and a Windows(R) 2000 system.

* Installation from Setup.exe

  Use the installation CD-ROM (Printer Driver/Print Monitor Setup Disc), or network clients can also install it from the network directory, in which the contents of software are copied.

  1. Close all applications. Turn off virus checkers and Terminate Stay Resident (TSR) programs. After installation, these programs can be turned back on.
  2. Insert the CD-ROM (or Windows(R) 95/98/Me users may also go to network drive location as assigned by Network Administrator).
  3. Select "Run" from the Start menu on your task-bar.
  4. Browse to the Setup directory on the CD-ROM drive (or Windows(R) 95/98/Me users may go to a network directory location as assigned by the Network Administrator).
  5. Select the "Setup.exe" file, click "OK".
  6. Follow the prompts.

* Installation from Add Printer Wizard (only Printer Driver)

  1. Close all applications. Turn off virus checkers and Terminate Stay Resident (TSR) programs. After installation, these programs can be turned back on.
  2. Click on "Start", "Settings" and "Printers".
  3. Double click on "Add Printer".
  4. Answer the questions in the Add Printer Wizard until you reach the screen with the printer manufacturer list.
  5. Click on "Have Disk".
  6. Browse to the driver location using CD-ROM option and find the appropriate directory for your operating system.
  7. Select "*.inf" file from  PCL 6, PCL 5e or SETUP directory. Normally, select from PCL 6 directory.
  8. Click "Open" and "OK".
  9. Select the appropriate printer (PCL 6 Driver or PCL 5e Driver).
 10. Follow the remaining instructions to complete the printer installation. At this point, the driver will be copied to your hard disk and added to the list of installed printers.

Microsoft(R) Windows(R) 3.1x
----------------------------
* Installation from Setup.exe on the CD-ROM

  1. Close all applications. Turn off virus checkers and Terminate Stay Resident (TSR) programs. After installation, these programs can be turned back on.
  2. Insert the CD-ROM or go to network drive location as assigned by Network Administrator.
  3. In Windows "Program Manager", open the "File" menu.
  4. Select "Run".
  5. Browse to the Setup directory on the CD-ROM drive or go to a network directory location as assigned by the Network Administrator.
  6. Select the "Setup.exe" file, click "OK", and when the main menu appears click "Continue".
  7. Follow the prompts.

* Installation from Add Printer Wizard (only Printer Driver)

  1. Close all applications. Turn off virus checkers and Terminate Stay Resident (TSR) programs. After installation, these programs can be turned back on.
  2. Go to "Main" in "Program Manager" and select "Control Panel".
  3. Select "Printers".
  4. Under Printer, choose "Add".
  5. Under List of Printers, choose "Unlisted" and click "Install"
  6. Browse to the driver location using CD-ROM option and find the appropriate directory for your operating system.
  7. Select the appropriate printer and click "OK".
  8. Follow the remaining instructions to complete the printer installation.

UNINSTALLER/UNINSTALLATION INSTRUCTION
------------------------------------------------------------

This software contains Uninstaller.
When you installed the software using Setup.exe, you can use the Uninstall icon in the Doc Pilot program group and remove all of the software for Printer Driver and Print Monitor.

*** NOTE: No Uninstaller is available when driver is installed from "Add Printers".

Administrator privileges are required to uninstall the software onto a Windows NT(R) 4.0 system and a Windows(R) 2000 system.

1. In Doc Pilot Program Group, click the Uninstall icon. Or in the "Add/Remove application" property of Control Panel in Windows 95/98/Me, Windows NT(R) 4.0 and Windows(R) 2000 click "Doc Pilot F-320_360".
2. Click "Yes" when uninstall program ask a confirm question.
3. Follow the prompts.

1. Check printer is ON.
2. If you run Print Monitor or Printer Control Panel, please quit these programs, and try again.

CAN NOT PRINT SOME GRAPHICS OR SOME CHARACTERS CORRECTLY

If you encounter this problem, please try the following ways.

In Windows(R) 3.1x/95/98/Me:

1. Set Graphics Mode setting on the Quality tab of the Printer Driver to "Raster", and set TrueType Mode setting to "Download as Bitmap" or "Download as Graphics".
2. If your PC printer port is set to ECP mode, change to Nibble mode. (only for Windows(R) 95/98/Me )

In Windows NT(R) 4.0/Windows(R)2000:

1. Set TrueType Mode setting on the Quality tab of the Printer Driver to "Download as Bitmap" or "Download as Graphics".

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
