NTREADME.TXT also contains instructions for installing the Iomega Parallel Port driver required for the Jaz Traveller under Windows NT. _________________________________________________________ Section 1 Why install Iomega Tools software for Jaz Traveller? Jaz Traveller portability means that you can use it to connect your Jaz drive to any PC without having to install the complete Iomega Tools software package on that computer. (All you need to do is run the Guest program as described in your Jaz Traveller Installation Guide.) However, you may want to do a permanent Tools installation if: * You use your Jaz drive frequently on a given computer. * You need to use Jaz disk protection features. * You want to be able to use any of the Iomega Tools application programs with your Jaz drive. * You want to be able to run the Iomega Parallel Port Optimizer to maximize Jaz drive performance through the parallel port. (See the instructions in Section 5.) If you choose to do a permanent Tools installation, use the Jaz "tools" disk that came with your Jaz drive and follow the instructions given in this Readme file for your system. NOTE: If you need updated Tools software, you can download it from the Iomega Web site: 1. Contact the Iomega Web site at http://www.iomega.com. 2. Select "Software Download" from the contents list, then select the "FTP Site" link. 3. Select your operating system and download the file for the latest drivers and Tools. _________________________________________________________ Section 2 How to Install Iomega Tools under Windows 95 1. Connect your Jaz drive, and, if you have not already done so on this computer, run Guest95 as described in your Jaz Traveller Installation Guide. 2. Insert your Jaz "tools" disk into the Jaz drive. 3. Open My Computer and double click on the removable drive icon for the Jaz drive. 4. Open the "W95Stuff" folder and double click on the icon for Setup.exe (or Setup95.exe) to automatically install Tools 95. _________________________________________________________ Section 3 How to Install Iomega Tools for Windows 3.1 1. Connect your Jaz drive and run the Guest program as described in the Jaz Traveller Installation Guide. Note the drive letter assigned to your Jaz drive. 2. Start Windows. 3. In the Windows Program Manager, select the File menu and choose Run. 4. In the Command Line box, type the drive letter for your Jaz drive, followed by: "\w31stuff\setup.exe". (For example, if your Jaz drive is d:, you would need to type "d:\w31stuff\setup.exe".) 5. Click OK or press the Enter key to start the Setup program. 6. Follow the screen instructions to install Iomega Tools software for Windows 3.1. _________________________________________________________ Section 4 How to Install Iomega SCSI Utilities for DOS 1. Connect your Jaz drive and run the Guest program as described in the Jaz Traveller Installation Guide. Note the drive letter assigned to your Jaz drive. 2. At the DOS prompt, type the drive letter for your Jaz drive, followed by "\dosstuff\install". (For example, if your Jaz drive is d:, you would need to type "d:\dosstuff\install".) 3. Press Enter to start the Install program. 4. Follow the screen instructions to install Iomega SCSI software to support your Jaz drive under DOS. 5. Reboot the computer at the end of the installation. _________________________________________________________ Section 5 How to Use the Parallel Port Accelerator Iomega Tools software includes a parallel port accelerator that can automatically set up your system to use the fastest transfer mode for Jaz Traveller and the Jaz drive that is supported by your computer's parallel port. If you do not run the accelerator, the Iomega software will automatically use the most compatible, but slowest, of three possible data transfer modes. If your computer has a bi-directional parallel port or a supported "Enhanced Parallel Port" (EPP) chip set, the accelerator may be able to set your Iomega software to use a faster transfer mode, which will significantly improve Jaz drive performance through the parallel port. To use the accelerator, you must first permanently install Iomega Tools software, then follow the instructions given for your system below. IMPORTANT VERSION INFORMATION! If you are using a version of Tools earlier than 5.1, the Parallel Port Accelerator will not work with Jaz Traveller and the Jaz drive unless the SCSI ID on the Jaz drive is set to 6. Versions of Tools more recent than 5.1 include support for additional parallel port chip sets. If you need updated Tools software, you can download it from the Iomega Web site (http://www.iomega.com) Windows 95 Users: If Jaz Traveller was connected when you installed Iomega Tools, you can double click on the "Parallel Port Accelerator" icon in the Iomega Tools folder located on your Desktop or Start Programs menu. If the "Parallel Port Accelerator" icon does not appear in the Iomega Tools folder, use My Computer or Windows Explorer to open the "Tools_95" folder on drive c:. Scroll down to locate the "Parallel Port Accelerator" icon, then double click the icon to run the accelerator. Windows 3.1 Users: Double click on the "Parallel Port Accelerator" icon in your Iomega Tools Windows group. DOS Users: Run the OPTPPM1.EXE utility as follows: Step 1: If you have not already done so, install the Iomega SCSI software package following the instructions in the section 4 of this Readme file. Step 2: Go to the DOS prompt for drive C: and type: cd \iomega <Enter> optppm1 <Enter> NOTE: If you wish to restore the default settings on your system, run "OPTPPM1.EXE /NIBBLE" from the DOS prompt. (This works under Windows 3.1 as well as DOS.)Download Driver Pack
