Generally, this driver package provides drivers for Linux systems with kernel 2.4.0 or above, but following Linux systems are recommended: Linux Distribution Version ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Mandrake 8.0 or above Red Flag 3.2 or above Red Hat 7.2 or above SuSE 8.0 or above Pay attention to following conditions: (a) You must have a fully configured source for the Linux kernel which you will install the audio driver on. It is neccessary to resolve all symbol dependencies between the kernel and the audio driver. (b) You must compile a kernel with sound support. (c) You are able to log on as root. 3) Package Version Identification 1. The package name includes the release version information. You can find the package version in this ReadMe file. 4) Distribution Package Contents Now, this driver is released as an RPM package 5) Installation If you get this driver package as tar.gz file, please decompress it first. (a) Red Hat 8.0 or above: 1) Run 'rpmbuild --rebuild viaudiocombo-2.2-3.src.rpm' 2) Change the directory to the system RPM directory. Usually, the directory is something like /usr/src/RPM. Then change to its subdirectory /RPMS/ix86. Here, 'x' is specified by the type of your machine. 3) Find the binary rpm file name. Run 'rpm -i viaudiocombo-2.2-3.ix86.rpm'. (b) Other Linux systems: 1) Run 'rpm --rebuild viaudiocombo-2.2-3.src.rpm' 2) Change the directory to the system RPM directory. Usually, the directory is something like /usr/src/RPM. Then change to its subdirectory /RPMS/ix86. Here, 'x' is specified by the type of your machine. 3) Find the binary rpm file name. Run 'rpm -i viaudiocombo-2.2-3.ix86.rpm'. 6) Uninstallation Run 'rpm -e viaudiocombo'. 7) FAQ If installation fails, please check the error message. Here are some known errors and their solutions. (a) "Could not find Linux directory" Please install all of the source code of the kernel. The VIA combo audio driver needs the complete source code to compile. (b) "kernel-module version mismatch" Please check the current kernel version by running "uname -r". It should be the same as your system kernel configuration. The kernel configuration is made by running "make config" (menuconfig/xconfig).Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
