	Information for Zoom External 56K Rockwell Faxmodems.


1) This modem will be configured by Windows 2000 as "Zoom 56K Data Fax dualmode Modem PnP" modem, with this configuration, this modem will function as a Data Fax modem only. In order to obtain full TAPI support, we strongly recommend you do the following.

2) Check the "Show hidden files and folders" option from Start | Programs | Accessories | Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder Options...| View |.

3) Type in "mdmmetri.inf" under the Search for files or folders named field from Start |Search | For Files or Folders... | to search for this file. Once this file is found, please delete it and make sure this is the only file that you delete.

4) Click on the Remove button from Start | Settings | Control Panel | Phone and Modem Options | Modems to uninstall the "Rockwell 56000 External Modem PnP".   

5) Follow the instructions from the "Installation Instructions for External and Internal Faxmodems:" section of this readme file to reinstall this modem.

	Installation Instructions for External and Internal (ISA) Faxmodems


1) Before installing the Windows 2000 modem inf file, please install your modem hardware according to the Installation Instructions in your User's Manual. Then follow the instructions below.  

2) After installing your modem hardware start Windows.
 
3) The Found New Hardware Wizard dialog box will come up, click Next to continue.

4) Windows 2000 will ask you "What do you want the wizard to do", select the "Search For A Suitable driver for my device(Recommended)" option and click Next to continue.

5) Windows 2000 will ask you to specify a search location. If your Windows 2000  modem inf file is on your floppy disk then select the "Floppy Disk drives" option and leave the rest of the options unchecked, otherwise check the "Specify a location" option to specify the location for Windows 2000 to locate the inf file.  This location will be the directory where you downloaded and extracted this file.  Click Next to contiue.

6) Windows 2000 begins to search for the inf file, it will inform you once it has found the inf file, click next to continue.

7) You will see a dialog box that says Digital Signature Not Found. The reason is that Windows 2000 is a new operating system and its drivers are new. You should ignore this message and click Yes. The installation will proceed correctly. When Windows locates the driver, click the Next button.

8) Click finish to complete the installation.

Information for Zoom PCMCIA 56K Rockwell Faxmodems.


By default, Windows 2000 installs your Zoom PC Card as a standard PCMCIA modem, so you must install the current Zoom drivers to ensure that your modem achieves optimal performance.
Important Note: Before installing these drivers, you must install your modem hardware according to the instructions in your Installation Guide. Then follow the steps below.

1)  Click Start | Settings | Control Panel. Double-click on the System icon to display the Systems Properties box.

2)  Click on the Hardware tab and then the Device Manager button. Double-click on the Modem icon and a list of installed modems will drop down. Double-click on the entry Standard PCMCIA Card Modem.

3)  Click the Driver tab and then Update Driver. The Upgrade Device Driver Wizard dialog box will display. Click Next.

4)  Windows will prompt, What do you want Windows to do? Select Search for a suitable driver for my device and click Next.

5)  Windows 2000 will ask you to specify a search location. How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
