Instructions.txt Driver File Contents (ME-535SSU2FW_daisy_chain_fix.zip)

These instructions are for correcting the Oxford Chip so you can connect up multiple enclosures via the Firewire port.

Note: a hard drive must be connected to the enclosure before you update the firmware.

1. Make sure all external hard drives are disconnected from the USB and FireWire Ports.

2. Connect enclosure that you want to update to the computer via the USB2 only and
     power up enclosure

3. Run Oxsemi Uploader program

4. It will come up with a Warning Message that this is not for end user use. Click OK.

5. Click on Scan USB
It will show the drive that is connected under Current Selected Drive.

6. Click on "Modify Configuration Information" Note: it may take 2 or 3 seconds to read the firmware in the enclosure.

7. At the top of the window, change the Manufacture Name to something other than OEM.
This field MUST have a different name than the other external drives connected to the
computer. For example, use OE1 or OE2 or OE3, etc.

8. Under the IEEE1394 Details ONLY you will see a field called "Chip ID Lo"
Set this to a different 6 digit number, that is different from the other external hard drive
     enclosure.
Like change it from 454647 to 197563.
No two external hard drive enclosure can have the same Chip ID Lo number.

9. Under the USB Details column, you will see the Serial Number field.
Set this to a different number, that is different from the other external hard drive enclosure.
     Like ABCDEF0123456789451 to AFEDCB9451123456789
No two external hard drive enclosure can have the same Serial Number.

10. Then clik on the "Upload Changes" button on the lower right corner of the window.

11. The screen switches back to the main screen and at the bottom, above the View Log button, it will display the status of the upload. It should only take about 3 to 5 seconds and it will say "Programming Done...."

12. Click Exit.

13. Use Safely Remove Hardware function to dismount the drive from the USB port.

14. Then Reboot the computer. Once the computer is rebooted, you can now connect the enclosure via the Firewire Port.

NOTE: You MUST reboot the computer before connecting the drive up via the Firewire connection, otherwise the computer will not see the changes in the Firmware. Strange I know, but that is how it works.

We have tested this now on 5 different Bytecc enclosures (3 of the ME-535SSU2FW and
2 of the ME-747SSU2FW). Now that we fixed the Chip ID Lo by changed the number to something unique in each enclosure, we are now able to connect up all 5 enclosures and
have the system see each drive.
