ports.txt Driver File Contents (mesdk.exe)

Description to change the com port names (COM5->COM3)
under Windows 95/98.

1. Start the program Regedit.exe which can normally be found in the windows
directory. You can type regedit under Start - Run...

2 Open the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Enum/MF

3. This key contains a number of sub-keys of the form CHILD####

4. Each of these keys in turn contains one or more sub-keys of the form
PCI&..........

5. Among these latter sub-keys are some of the form PCI&VEN1402&DEV_9104 or
PCI&VEN1402&DEV_9108 according to whether you have an ME9100 board with 4
or 8 ports. These are the keys describing the ports on the ME9100 board(s)
in the system.

6. Each ME9100 port key contains values, among others, called 'DeviceDesc',
'FREINDLYNAME' and 'PORTNAME'.

7. All three of these values contains the string 'COM#' where # is the port
number.

8. To change the port 5 to port 3, for example you should find the key
containing the string 'COM5' and change it by hand to 'COM3' in all three
locations ( 'DeviceDesc', 'FREINDLYNAME' and 'PORTNAME').

9. It is important not to inadvertently make any other changes in the
registry, and it is advisable to create an emergency repair disk recording
the current state of the system before carrying out the above operations.

In German:

Kurzform in deutsch:

Um die ME9100 COM Ports unter WIN95 umzustellen (z.B COM5->COM3)

In Registry unter
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Enum/MF/CHILD####/PCI&VEN1402&DEV_910........ den
entsprechenden Eintrag finden.
